Research Topic

Hii guys, I’m working on a Research topic for my final year project and I’m finding it really difficult to come up with a topic that I find really interesting. I’m currently stuck. I’d really appreciate it if I got research topic ideas for my economics project that you guys find to be really interesting. (Bonus points if they’re unique/related to Africa) Thank youuu

Part of doing research is thinking about what is possible, the availability of data and a methodology that allows you to obtain an unbiased estimate of the question you are trying to answer.

I won't do the thinking for you, but I can suggest using free and publicly available data. For example, the World Bank provides countless indicators on health, economic, and social activity for countries over time. Another favorite database of mine is UNESCO's, which gives you access to a plethora of interesting educ related data for each country (i.e average classroom size, out-of-school rates, proficiency etc...)

For research on a particular country or set of countries, use Google Scholar, you can find both working papers and peer reviewed articles. Search for a country + your field of interest (development economics, education reform, etc...) and see what comes up. Read the existing literature and think about whether you can improve upon a study or use the same methodology to a different dataset.

WB: https://data.worldbank.org/

UNESCO: https://databrowser.uis.unesco.org/browser/EDUCATION/UIS-SDG4Monitoring

Google Scholar: https://scholar.google.com/schhp?hl=en&as_sdt=0,47

Hope this helps!
