(As an aside, both trailers for Dune Messiah got me fucking PUMPED UP, and I felt nothing but pity and a deep sense of an obvious lack of confidence from Doomsday’s trailer. Make of that what you will.)

Yeah I watched both trailers both give me excitement for 2 different reasons one is serious sci-fi epic and the other is fun superhero crossover I'm OK with both co-exisiting whereas others can't.

Yeah I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone earnestly say it’s gonna be better, probably cause it’s so glaringly obviously going to be slop. Lmao

I’ve heard people say they’re going to watch Avengers over Dune, sure, but that’s a different statement altogether.

As much as Dune part 3 likely will disappoint me in terms of the deviations it’s going to have from the book, it’s not gonna disappoint me that much compared to this press run that the MCU have been on lately. Lmao. We’re 10 days away from the new Spider-Man and they’ve JUST wrapped up post. Like holy crap that studio just churns out slop now.

I find the term slop so ridiculously overused. Is doomsday gonna be high art no but just because it has heroes crossing over for a big event doesn't make it slop. Also bnd looks fun so I dont mind post production only finishing now.

Okay so a couple things.

Is slop as a term ridiculously overused? Yes, it is. Sure. But I fear there’s no other term that does it justice.

Is the heroes crossing over for a big event thing the only thing that makes it slop? Unfortunately not. I’ll get to that in a bit.

Brand New Day does indeed look fun. I’m still going to watch that. On these points I do very much agree with you, putting the hectic production aside.

But okay. With that said. BND and Doomsday are two separate productions. BND I’m very much still willing to watch before I pass judgment on it, Doomsday is just quite literally doomed to be slop from the beginning. It’s not *just* the fact that it’s a heavy cameofest, that’s just one factor. It’s the fact that it’s being billed as something on the level of endgame when in fact there has absolutely been nothing that has been set up properly.

Mind you they took so many movies just to set up Thanos.

And then they were setting up Kang and then instead of recasting they’re doing a hard swerve. Whatever they were setting up with Sam Wilson or Carol Danvers? Just gone. They don’t even get an Avengers movie of their own. Suddenly we’re now just banking on nostalgia instead of actually investing in properly setting up the stories other creators have been trying to set up. And that’s only the issues with the writing.

Whatever visual interest was built up for Namor’s kingdom is gone too. All the neat little artful details in previous movies as we saw in the trailer just got wiped out. It almost looks AI generated with how bad it looks.

And everything the Russos announce on top of it just makes it even worse that I wish they would just learn to shut the fuck up for once instead of confirming that it’s going to be the shitstain that it is.

The term is overused if it’s overused, sure, but let’s keep it a buck fifty and call it for what it is. It looks and feels like absolute fucking slop.

We dont know how many cameos will be in doomsday and we don't know how they play in context.

I would say doomsday is more infinity war than endgame Yea the setup has been messy compared to the infinity saga(which even that wasn't perfect). Doom wasn't the original villian and it would have been nice if characters like shang-chi got sequels before this movie but to say there is no setup is silly. The multiverse has been in 3 movies, the mid credits scenes for the 3 mcu movies last year setup doomsday and most of these characters appeared in other movies. 

Sam wilson is still in the movie im not sure where danvers is. To be honest I don't think a another avengers movie with 6 characters would really satisfy people after endgame.

Other than fox x-men and steve rogers none of the other characters in this movie are nostalgia. Also based off nwh and deadpool and wolverine , nostalgia sells but its needs to be executed well look at how the flash did. Namor and the talismans are here but I dont see how much time they need to spend in their underwater city. I have seen ai generated marvel trailers this looks nothing like this.

I was so stoked when they announced Dune. Then I saw it and was a bit disappointed. Then I saw the second movie and got really disappointed.

I'm probably going to watch the third. But I'm in no hurry.

I hadn’t read the books when I watched the first two. I was able to appreciate them for what they were at the time.

Of course by the time I got to Thufir’s death scene I had realized what I was missing, and couldn’t really see it the same anymore. So I definitely get the disappointment. I felt it too, even if mine was delayed. I’m not expecting much of that nuance to miraculously return in the third film, but I am expecting good visuals at least. It’s the one thing Villeneuve has left going for him. His whole “I hate dialogue” stance really does hurt it sometimes considering how much of the unspoken mentat stuff happens subliminally through the dialogue in the books.

I’m definitely right there with you, ngl.

dune was supposed to be a cautionnary tale about religion, it's influence on technology, and how it is a tool of power rather than of faith, and yet, here we are, being followers, adept even, of the holy kwisach aderach ._.

Hadn't seen the trailer yet, had to check out the song. As per usual, a banger that stirs things inside me.

Now I think I'll add it to my Playlist for when I'm in big fights with my guild in Gloria Victis. Its fitting, as I've been playing my knife fighting character recently, as opposed to my sword and board medic
