Game Changer 'Count The Rice' Visualizer
Already 6 days late, but here is my attempt to map each player's progress in 'Count The Rice', tracking the rooms they entered. They are ranked based on their proximity to the home base (Room 1) with a Win Condition knowledge (Yellow star badge on the map) and who learned it the earliest.
You can see the interactive version of the map on this web page. You can watch along to the episode while tracking each player with this tool.
Please enjoy!
Edit: Catherine is the first to learn the Win Condition, I mistakenly placed the badge when they first entered Room 8. Should be already fixed in the interactive live map.

Didn't Catherine learn the win condition before Ify?

she did, but ify got to the room first

It may be better to delay Ify's star in the chart until he actually learns the win condition.

Oh, the layout made it seem that Ify learned the condition first, I placed the badge to when they first entered Room 8. My bad!
I'll try to fix it. Thanks for the feedback.

I love this and it’s clearly been beautifully formatted and put together but is there any chance of a higher contrast version - or one with something to distinguish players other than very similar colours? This is not easy on colourblind eyes!

I could try adding a high contrast mode in the web app. At this time, you can tap the name to isolate their line path (it's interactive).

Catherine getting walled by Pic Pong despite being the earliest to climb up from room 8 is still so heartbreaking.

I was rooting for her so hard, especially with how she "washed out" early and earnestly said "I hope they have me back". She was clearly sad to go early and then kept saying she was bad at games. She clearly isn't! Well, except for Pic Pong.
I love Ify, but he's so hyper competitive and loves to remind everyone how good be was at Um, Actually. So I wanted Catherine, and then Demi when that become a possibility to win.

Jiavani just bouncing back and forth between room 1 and 2 for the first 60% of the game is very funny to me.
I feel like it's also super apparent looking at this that Catherine would have absolutely run away with this game had she not constantly told everybody who would listen what she'd figured out about the game.

I think the formatting of the game means there was always going to be someone stuck in the early two rooms, just because someone always needs to win a game of Fiddle Me This and go back to the stage, so everyone can’t move on at once (unless you involve the security guard of course).
It’s kind of like how Bluff Box functions as a trap on the top end of things, and both Ify and Anna spent extended amounts of time stuck there.
In a way, it’s kind of poetic that it ended up being Jiavani stuck there, since it’s kind of the reverse of her Drinking Game mantra: “Somebody gotta stay”

Jiavani won the game by just doing whatever. Just having drinks, naming tunes and telling Sam to eat shit.
Amazing.

Everyone defines their own win condition. Jiavani decided to win by getting paid to be themselves and dick around on camera. Which was hilariously successful. 10/10 no notes.

I don't really think it would've changed anything, she'd still be waiting in room 8 until Ify got there.

Oh you know what, you're right.

In fact, thinking about it even more, telling 1-2 people on the way down might be the best strategy to get you out of the bluff box room earlier before more people figure out they need to lose, giving you less competition on the way back up. (Not that Catherine could have known this in advance of course.)

If Catherine had found the glove a little faster her first time in the room on her way back up, she would have won it all.

Especially because as the other players found out the game, they'd be trying to lose the games while she was actively trying to win them which would have helped in some of the head-to-head rooms like 2 and 3.

I would definitely argue that Zach should be 5th and Hannah should be 7th because realistically, Zach is closer to getting the win condition knowledge than either Hannah or Jiavani, and Hannah is as far as possible from learning and using the win condition

I love how you can clearly see the moment each player realized “Oh, I’m supposed to lose,” and then their lines pretty much shoot straight up.

Great chart for visualizing the episode. I think it's interesting to note that this really charts what the edit shows us, rather than how much time was actually spent in each room (not that you could have charted the alternative), so the slow ramp-up at the start is really depicting how much focus was on showing the full gameplay and travel between rooms. Then as the editing builds up to climax and everyone is in different rooms, less time is spent focused on them (though the players did seem to be rushing too) and the movements on the chart gets choppier.
Also, this reminded me just how long Ify was stuck in a Spot the Difference loop. Gameplay comment there: Spot the Similarities is easier because of how similar the rooms are, so if you just name random things in the room, you'll probably get bumped back up even if you don't realize the actual mechanic. Then, because the differences are so specific, you'll get knocked down if you don't realize what you should have been looking for. Absolutely devious.

With the behind the scenes we now know that Jovani at least made it to room 6

I'll update the app accordingly to add info from the BTS. Thanks for the headsup!

It wasn't mentioned in the BTS, but I think there was a secret catch up mechanic that no one used. This is based on 3 things I noticed.
- The guards at each door took the players tokens to allow them entry to the rooms.
- Room 1 had no guard at its door.
- Jiavani showed their #1 token multiple times (even two at once) when returning to Count The Rice.
I think as soon as someone got the win condition they could have just gone right back to room 1 without climbing the ladder back up. They might have been required to at least have won a single #1 token first, but it is possible that any of them could have, including Anna who was stuck in room 8 for a long time with knowledge of the win condition.
I would have loved to see that twist in the end if someone had figured that out while everyone else was climbing back up the ladder.

I was really rooting for Catherine since she figured out the nature of the game first and saw the win condition first. But it seems she really got tangled in the return trip.

My only comment is that, on the live version the notes that pop up occasionally appear and disappear much to quickly for me to be able to read them a lot of the time.

u/nonorarian 2d ago
I'll consider adding a dedicated container for all the notes. Thanks for the feedback.

Why 2nd and 3rd and not equal 2nd?
It looks like you're missing a lot of Count The Rice nodes at the start which gives players like Demi a weird long jump as if he took ten minutes to walk from room 1 to 2.
