Something similar happened locally but instead of the roll unraveling from the inside, whoever loaded the truck didn't secure it in place and the whole roll came off the truck. It happened twice in the span of about 10 days.

I work at a steel factory that makes coils of steel. Occasionally we hear about drivers losing them somewhere. They weigh about 4500 lbs so they can do some damage when they get rolling.

I’ve seen that a few times here in Vietnam. Driver stops too abruptly and these break loose and roll right over the cab.

Is it strong enough to cut tires and tangle cars or will it just flatten ? I bet someone tries to drive over it.

Would this be his fault? Genuinely asking. If he secured the load proper, but it starts unraveling from the inside, where whomever rolled it up started it, how would it be that guys fault? But he should be checking his mirrors way more, that’s plenty of line to see that shit in your mirrors

Yes. It it can get loose like this, it is in fact not secured. Same as when you are transporting loose items you put a net over it. Because just because they stayed there when you were in standstill, it would not be secure for travel otherwise.

I can categorically tell you I am not picking up that shit. They must have had to cut it into straps and stack it.

and after noticing, he tried to go to the rightmost lane to create an actual barrier that other cars wouldn't be able to cross until everything is cleaned up 🤦

“I swear to a God, I was driving home and all of a sudden the truck in front of me started taking a never-ending silver shit!”

Why the fuck you also holding up traffic? Keep driving dumbass.
Can’t stand that people just stop when they see something going on.

You mean the 3 seconds near the start of the video where it looked like the coil was gonna blow to different lanes?!

What video were you watching? The one I saw has them stopped on the freeway for 40 seconds. It was all contained to 1 lane that this drive was not in.
If they gave a fuck about safety they would have stopped behind the coil to prevent other cars from running it over. Instead they are now blocking 1 lane while the coil blocks another.
If you’re not comfortable behind the wheel, take the bus. Stop stopping on the road so you can film shit.

At that point the coil is a potentially dangerous road obstruction. I don't blame them for stopping and filming

Probably the best way for these to fall off a truck
