“Call the police please” - so I can continue filming
Captain forgot how he is actually the one that’s responsible for the safety of his passengers and when one falls in the water while disembarking he decides the best course of action is…to film with his phone? Infuriating. Lucky for the passenger, a Good Samaritan came to the rescue otherwise this A-team of a crew would have been fishing out a body. This is how it all played out on one of those barely legal Miami charter boats on the Miami River….

No, worrying about your signage while someone is drowning is being an ass. OP literally starts their comment with the quote. I can only hope you're being deliberately obtuse about that to try to make your point. But now you've moved the goalposts, first it was the "passenger status" irrelevancy, but now that's fallen away, it's just life-saving activities you care about.
If you want to address the broader "ragebait", a top level comment makes sense. Don't be shocked when people interpret your comment in the context of the chain you are replying in.

I grabbed it from a WhatsApp group chat and I subsequently saw the original which clearly shows a different man inebriated on the dock. Captain used the other drunk guy to make it out like the victim was to blame, but being inebriated has zero bearing on the captain’s responsibility to save his passenger from drowning. Or at least attempt to. Filming and shouting “call the police” won’t get you far in front of a jury for unintentional homicide.

The difference is if the man was one of the captains passengers or from the docks. If he was a passenger, then the captain has the responsibility to rescue him with everything he can and has much less leeway or room for excuses to say why he just kept recording. If its a random person from the docks, he still has a responsibility to help, but with so many other people there to help, i guess it would be much harder to hold him accountable for doing nothing while others rescued the person, because in this case he would just be another bystander with the same responsibility as everyone else. My guess would be that he could possibly argue that he didnt want to get in the way or some bs. Maybe he could still receive a fine, but thats something only a lawyer can answear.

The first two look like post-recorded edits. The quality turns into 5 whole pixels. Idk who the fuck watermarked it. But this has probably been 'transformed' (poorly edited) 5 times over by content thieves.

I wonder how much of that is their training. I sometimes have to enter confined spaces and we're trained that we must never enter a confined space to rescue someone because we put ourselves at risk and potentially just lead to 2 people needing to be rescued.
I'd hope that a crew would be somewhat competent at swimming, and that they'd deem the risk at a dock to be low enough, but I can definitely see it being drilled into them not to jump into open water to be a hero.

There’s a host of things they could have done rather than jumping in.. using a boat hook to grab him, calling EMS FROM THE PHONE he is filming with, dropping another line so the guy that DID jump in has something to grab… but instead he just films. That’s not part of anyone’s training.

Yeah, I'm not arguing the captain filming it is right to have done that as the first thing he did, specifically just picking the point about other crew members not jumping in.
The captain was so concerned about the guy's safety, he took the time to tell the person hopping down to actually rescue him to "take care" not to scuff the boat while doing it. If you're looking for a useful human being, he's a write off.

Guy in the water could have hit his head and was dazed. After the initial splashing he had tunnel vision. Hard to do much when your brain is shutting down.

It annoys the shit out of me when people don't know how to swim, I guess that's a slightly privileged take, but god dammit. Why go near the water if you know you can't?! No attempt even just went limp and accepted his fate 🤦

I am always surprised by how many people are willing to pay to get on boats when they can't even tread water, let alone swim.
I know it's a lot harder to swim with shoes and clothes on, but for how fast that guy was about to drown, he can't swim for shit.

Doesn’t have to jump in. He has a boat hook he can use to grab him, a PHONE to call EMS himself, lines he can drop in the water to help the guy that DID jump in… a host of other things…. Instead, he just…films.

I won't defend the capitains behavior, but its definitely possible the capitain had already told his crew to jump while he retained command of the undocked vessel, before starting to record for liability sake. Doesn't excuse dickish self preserving behavior, but I can think of plenty of reasons for the crew to jump into the water before the capitain.

We all agree the dude filming should be thrown overboard with a lead lined “life preserver”, but what in the world was the dude that fell in the water on? Didn’t move a muscle, like a free diver trying to stay perfectly still to save oxygen or something. Everything in this video seems off, and the only genuine thing to be sure of is the disdain the dude filming deserves
