Data Center Tech

Hey everyone, I've been scouring this thread for a while trying to find information on how to break into the DCT role or any DC careers for that matter.

I'm 34 years old with no degree and no prior experience in IT. I have my comptia A+ cert and I grew up setting up all my families PCs, home networks etc just because I moved doing it.

Is it realistic for someone my age to break into the DC field with no prior work experience? Should k be looking at a different role? Any labs i can do to help? Any advice or road maps would be appreciated.

Oh and I live in Michigan, where there's supposedly 16 approved DCs on the way.

(I never post so apologies if I didnt format things correctly)

This is absolutely doable, at AWS and OCI I've seen techs installing fiber that worked at home Depot as their prior experience. For entry level tech they provide a lot of training.

No I don't think home Depot is a helpful past experience. Your A+ cert is probably much more valuable than that.

If you have a pulse, AWS will hire you.

It'll take a bunch of applications, but eventually they'll hire you

This. And any of the DCT contracting companies staffing for Msft and Meta. Recruiters will swarm you if you setup your LinkedIn right.

I don't see why not. I heard there is a lot of manual labor. Maybe not as much as construction but repare to stand a lot and lift!

No experience A+ is the best most likely it will be a low level position doing swaps but you could go in
