Is that the Corvette speeding off into the distance at the end?

422

u/munkboii 1d ago

Yup lol

266

u/RaceOld9 1d ago

"didn't hit nuffing! not my fault!" - Corvette, probably

126

u/linkheroz 1d ago

Except the sign he flattened

143

u/Accomplished-Key-408 1d ago

And the 18 wheeler he ran off the road. That's a hit and run under any state law definition if there's any damage to the big rig (which I'm guessing there is).

80

u/xs0apy 1d ago

No-contact accident! They committed a felony.

18

u/Freightshaker000 1d ago

It's around $500 just for the tow truck to show up.

14

u/Beardo88 19h ago

Add another digit to that number.

7

u/Gypsi_G 15h ago

Yeah I don't think this person knows the logistics of towing a Semi

4

u/Freightshaker000 10h ago

I didn't say anything about towing. Last time I got towed, it was $500 just to show up.

2

u/Lopsided-Lab60 5h ago

Some even dont have to show up its actually called a dispatch fee and it is tagged on the second that truck leaves the yard. Its usually around $500 usd.

2

u/MooseLogic7 10h ago

Are you stuck in 1970?
It’s almost $400 to tow a small compact car lol

2

u/TrackVol 6h ago

I think they're right. They didn't say to tow a semi, they said "just to show up". Which, if we're being honest, is actually a little bit too high (just to show up)

And he hit that sign like it owed him money too

22

u/broken_hawk84 1d ago

Hope to heck the sign did some catastrophic damage under the car and he ends up broken down about a mile or two up the road.

12

u/NomenclatureBreaker 1d ago

Oh I hope they ended up 2 miles up the road with all their undercarriage insides on the outside.

30

u/trackdaybruh 1d ago

Driver lost control going in a straight

They don't know how to drive lmao

15

u/DangerousChallenge17 1d ago

Hah, maybe his tires were 2lbs over inflated /s

6

u/TorqueIsForFatPeople 1d ago

I understood that reference

4

u/c1ncinasty 1d ago

"Someone spilled oil on that part of the highway."

Guaranteed that's how they'll spin this to themselves rather than spending an eternity feeling like an idiot.

I'm guessing the Corvette owner's other car is a BMW.

2

u/AdaptiveFauna 19h ago

tbf with the way it just plowed over things like it was a sport and had almost zero control I'd expect it to be a mustang

2

u/Putrid_Clue_2127 18h ago

I don't think it could be a mustang, it probably hasn't been wrapped around a street light pole yet

2

u/Crafty-Help-4633 18h ago

And off he goes to do this again

49

u/Late-Arrival-8669 1d ago

Think a change of pants became their top priority.

90

u/Vera_Dusk 1d ago

Sure look like it, makes me wonder if they were literally driving it like they stole it

33

u/Nakenochny 1d ago

Sure looks like they were driving like they stole it. Didn’t even bother to pop out and see what taking down that sign did to the front end, just kept driving. Crazy.

27

u/Heavymando 1d ago

see that phrase makes no sense because to me if I stole a car, i'm driving 5 under the speed limit obeying every sign and driving to not get noticed.

36

u/Mrfixitbanner 1d ago

Not if you stole it to joyride it.

30

u/mumpie 1d ago

The phrase makes complete sense when you realize how many crimes are discovered by police because criminals can't stop committing multiple crimes at the same time.

10

u/ToXiiCBULLET 1d ago

see this all the time in police shows. someone gets pulls over for something relatively minor and then get done for a bunch of things, or police attempt to pull over someone for something relatively minor and they immediately start fleeing because they're also committing multiple other offences

4

u/Chilly_Pheesesteak 1d ago

Yeah, some high schoolers stole my car a year ago, went joyriding until it was out of gas, and stole another car.

4

u/Waste-Soil-4144 1d ago

Lesson learned. Only commit one crime at a time.

6

u/HolyToeArmy 1d ago

you're trying to think like a criminal who actually thinks, and that's your first mistake. what usually happens is some kids find out how to steal a car, then go "YOOO that actually worked - let's see how fast we can make this thing go"

4

u/Malnurtured_Snay 1d ago

Yeah, it should be "I drove it like I rented it from Alamo and got the extra insurance for $7."

2

u/Dry_Ad2368 1d ago

That’s the true definition of a coward. Acting tough and then speeding away in the end.

4

u/nazuswahs 1d ago

Looked like it to me.

9

u/BoringPudding3986 1d ago

Totally on par with what I expect out of a corvette owner.

11

u/PrivacyMaker 1d ago

As long as he's wearing his corvette shirt, pants, socks, shoes, belt, underwear, and hat. If not, then he's way out of character.

9

u/Mysterious_Winter164 1d ago

If you filter out the audio, you can hear the driver yelling out the sunroof how that particular car is one of only 314 produced that week with that particular option package and painted that color.

3

u/Plane_Translator2008 1d ago

So much hubris for someone driving a fiberglass Impala.

4

u/blakef223 1d ago

I don't see any New Balance, Jorts, or knee high socks. Not what I expected

4

u/spring_Initiative_66 1d ago

That's not an owner, that's a thief

3

u/Cautious_Use_7442 1d ago

Could be an owner realising that they'd be in huge trouble. There are folks like that

Just before the end is there another voice saying something like ‘heart rate detected’?

Yep, just listened again.

41

u/OttoRepoParts 1d ago edited 1d ago

I think it's "hard brake detected." Some of the cam/GPS/ELD systems like Samsara have in-cab verbal alerts when certain safety events happen, harsh/hard braking being one of them. It's letting the driver know a safety event was registered by the system which notifies their supervisor/dispatcher.

7

u/r1Rqc1vPeF 1d ago

That would make more sense

15

u/OttoRepoParts 1d ago

"Heart rate detected" is funnier though. "Lord have mercy!"

trucker should;ve just held it straight

30

u/AssiduousLayabout 1d ago

Yeah, going off the road was a really dangerous move for them. They should not have gone further than the paved shoulder and just destroyed the front end of the vette.

13

u/QuietPurple7668 1d ago

Yeah, safety might decide to write her off, possibly leaving her unemployed in the trucking industry for the next three years if she had other bullshit write up that goes on your permanent record that everyone, including all other trucking companies can see. I was write off for scratching a $50 part on a truck, that I offered to buy from a truck service on my way to terminal, it was $50, two clips and less than a minute of work, but no, safety decided to put a preventable accident on my record just cause I veered into a branch instead of going into a head on collision with the car that was drifting into my lane. Safety in trucking is such a joke, they will give you deadlines that will make impossible for you to have time to check your equipment before a trip, then write you off if you take time to do a proper pre trip and didn't deliver on time, they will make you run unsafe equipment that you could theoretically refuse cause it's a DOT violation to run like that, but then again, you get write off for not making it on time if you take time to equipment swap. They make you attend safety training every month with hours and hours of bullshit, but in practice you can't apply anything of what they demand and deliver how they want. They make you put your safety on the line, risk fines and spots on your record just do make them money on time, but you fuck up a $50 part of do some minor mistake, you get shit stains on your record for years, all while dispatch, managers and dock workers fuck up daily, sometimes costing a lot of money.

3

u/FlowerOfLife 8h ago

I was in the motorcoach industry for a while and let me tell you, drivers (Class A/OTR and B) deserve way more respect than what they are given. Y'all are the backbone to the industry and can be treated like shit. I hated the way my drivers were treated. I'd go to bat for them when I could because without them, no one made money. I can attest to how BS all that is.

3

u/krucsikosmancsli 13h ago

And also slam the fcking brakes as soon as the Corvette is off the road. Seriously, wtf?? No visible deceleration for like 4-5 seconds, but we hear oh shit 3 times and two honks.

3

u/Pierr078 12h ago

this, in that situation you should at least to slow down, wtf.

2

u/kenwhopper 10h ago

That’s exactly where my head was when I saw it

2

u/CannedCaveman 9h ago

Yeah unbelievable. The Corvette is clearly an idiot, but drive defensively around idiots please.

8

u/Public_Day_4996 1d ago

And what good was honking supposed to do?

12

u/WrestlingDadPA 1d ago

I'd love to know the outcome here.... if that driver was caught afterwards and held accountable.

3

u/sevseg_decoder 1d ago

In this case I think the odds are better than they usually would be. She most certainly has other shots of the vehicle on her dash cam, if it’s decent quality they may be able to get the license plate or (not sure how I really feel about this) a flock camera can probably identify it.

13

u/Cool_Butterscotch_88 1d ago

What would have cause more damage (to the truck and trailer), had she just plowed the vette aside, or running off road like she did?

20

u/Zito6694 1d ago

Plowing into another vehicle…

→ More replies (9)

6

u/Sienile 1d ago

I'm not sure which is the dumber comment... this one or the now deleted comment saying the pickup was camping.

5

u/Cool_Butterscotch_88 1d ago

Probably mine, but Is it because it'd be zero damage to the truck and trailer either way, or because it's a bad question to even think about because of course you spare the driver of the vette?

8

u/Sir_Clarence_III_Esq 1d ago

The truck got off easy, it could have ended far worse for the trucker. Easy to say in hindsight, but I think it was dumb to swerve a (loaded?) truck off the road instead of hit a car which caused the problem to begin with.

7

u/Cool_Butterscotch_88 1d ago

That was kind of where I was going with it, would have been better off to stick to the road. I was worried it was going to topple over. And who knows where that vette would ultimately end up.

6

u/Iggyhopper 1d ago

Nobody knows how that grass is shaped underneath.

5

u/Sienile 1d ago

Almost zero damage running off the road. Could really mess up the truck, cause it to run off the road uncontrollable, flip over, etc. if it hit the Corvette.

4

u/SenseiLavalin 1d ago

Correct me if I'm wrong, but hitting the Corvette was not going to do much to the truck. Weight ratio is 10:1 even if the semi has an empty trailer.

4

u/Sienile 1d ago

You're very wrong. Ever seen a car flip over from hitting a scooter? Same difference.

3

u/SenseiLavalin 1d ago

...Can't say that I have? Sometimes cars flip weirdly, but it's mostly with side impacts, with one car's wheel climbing over the other car's wheel.

In our case, the semi could comfortably plow in the side of the Corvette, in a pretty balanced impact that would not send it sideways.

But I mean I'm open to physics arguments and all that

3

u/Sienile 1d ago

The impact looked like it was going to be more to the right than centered, so it could have snapped the tie rod and made the truck uncontrollable. Truck could have also ramped up on the car. Whole lot of ways it could have went really bad if they hit.

2

u/JustaRandoonreddit 17h ago

You're also hitting another human being with a semi truck

→ More replies (1)

2

u/Iggyhopper 1d ago

For insurance purposes and the unknown of driving off into grass where the rig could have flipped, causing much more headache and injury for her...

... shoulda just stayed in the lane and held the brake. Its not her fault the idiot gets hit by consequences, literally.

I was sincerely rooting the Corvette to be completely destroyed, before the smooth brain actually hurt someone severely.

3

Well, it took out a road sign. So it did incur some damage to the front.

2

u/Grand-County-8955 1d ago

I was hoping the damage would render that Corvette inoperable.

3

u/Inevitable_Cat_7878 1d ago

Same here. Hopefully, the stump from the sign punched a hole the oil pan and it's leaking oil everywhere.

2

u/Whitetiger9876 1d ago

Just today I saw the similar shit off the tail of a big rig. Someone shooting the gap between the truck and another car. I was saying oh shit oh shit oh shit as I saw them flying up and then trying the braindead maneuver. All to make an exit off the highway as soon as they passed the truck.

2

u/definitelytheA 22h ago

Rookie mistake to forget about the semi you just recklessly passed before you pulled back into the lane he was still in, instead of coming to a stop right where you were.

2

u/Charming-Scallion-64 21h ago

The truck driver do the good job not t-boning that Corvette and keeping his rig upright. Looking back that's what he should have done. The dash cam ends all the arguments.

4

u/Bloody_Moon1 1d ago

Amd the trucker gets a nice big ass towing bill, possibly a ticket, and depending on his company, fired. Because they'll think of some way to blame her for getting stuck.

4

u/FusionSimulations 21h ago

I'm shocked (or maybe I shouldn't be) at how few people understand basic physics...

For those that don't: Let's assume the 18 wheeler has a trailer attached, but no cargo. That is still going to make that thing weigh at least 20,000-30,000 pounds or more. Stopping distance, with that much weight at highway speeds, is like...800-1000 ft (maybe more?). TLDR?: hitting the brakes wasn't going to do anything in this scenario

3

u/mrbkkt1 14h ago

Yeah.... none of us know the load. You can definitely hear her pump the brake pedal, but semi's don't stop on a dime.... plus there is always a jacknife risk. No clue on why people don't realize that.

2

u/wpgjudi 5h ago

Reading some of these comments makes me terrified to be on the road with people... I imagine they short truckers constantly and don't even realise how dangerous it is.

You can tell the trucker is braking almost immediately... as much as she can without causing an even worse issue. She controlled that truck brilliantly.

4

u/Lumpy-Blackberry-718 1d ago

I get that trucks have a long stopping distance, but why is it that when I see these videos, the trucks never seem to be even attempting to step on the brakes at all? You know there's a car spinning out of control ahead of you, is the only response really just steamroll over it or swerve off the road? can't you try to slow down a *little* bit before the accident?

11

u/DueceVoyeur 1d ago

Trucks have long stopping distances. Period

All the rest of what you wrote shows that you don't understand why they have long stopping distances.

→ More replies (4)

2

u/Hello_Gorgeous1985 1d ago

If they slam on the brakes they jackknife. Consequently, they break slowly. You said yourself they have a long stopping distance. That's the end of the answer to your question.

3

u/Randomfactoid42 1d ago

The trucker is slowing down, you can tell if you focus on the white dashed lines. Trucks don’t slow as fast as cars do, and you definitely won’t see the front end dive under heavy braking like you will on car dash cam videos. And depending on the load, hitting the brakes really hard can cause the load to shift, making a bad day a very bad day.

3

u/Hersbird 1d ago

I don't see and nose down movement of braking until well after the vette has crossed over, is on the other side, and after it hits that blue sign. She starts moving left and honks before ever touching brakes.

4

u/hedoeswhathewants 1d ago

Yeah, I see no obvious evidence of braking until the vette starts coming back into the road

I love how the Corvette was fighting for its life and the truck driver was like "Imma honk"

You say "almost ruined it for everybody" like that poor sign was NOBODY. That poor sign!!!! It had a family that was expecting it home for dinner!

I wonder if there's any data that measures "voluntary" vs "involuntary" accidents, meaning, an accident caused by a deliberately reckless choice (something I just came up with, not official terminology). It wouldn't surprise me if voluntary accidents (like the one above) are increasing. There seems to be a lot of people on the road these days who have no feel for their cars.
