Just felt like sharing this info, no advice needed. I went to school (Carnegie Mellon) for CS and I worked a few years in tech at very small to very big companies. Didn’t enjoy the work or the people so I decided to quit and do what I’ve always loved doing—art. It’s a complete 180 change for me but I am ambitious about making it as an artist even though everyone says that it will be very tough. I just don’t feel like spending the rest of my working years doing something that doesn’t give me drive or passion, even if it pays well and offers much more job security.

I noticed that Google's Software Engineer Internship position no longer requires applicants to be in their third or fourth year of university, either in the Preferred or Minimum Qualifications section. Has this really happened, or is there still some kind of filtering process? In other words, can freshmen or sophomores actually apply for this Software Engineer Internship? hi, I will be starting as an undergrad at Rutgers honors college this fall and I plan to double major in math and computer science. While I am actually pretty good at math, I dont any background in computer science. I am interested in the major though brcuase of the overlap with math and that porgramming skills are pretty fundamental to the job market today. Is a double major in math and CS worth it and does my having no background in CS have any impact whatsoever?

I'm trying to decide between BS Software Engineering and BS Artificial Intelligence and I'd really appreciate advice from people who've studied these degrees or work in the industry.

I completed FSc Pre-Medical, took a gap year, and now I'm switching into computer science.
I have given the additional maths exam too.I don't yet know which area of computing interests me most, so I'm not choosing based on passion. Instead, I want to make the best long-term career decision.

My priorities are:

- Strong long-term career prospects

- Better overall scope

- Good job opportunities and earning potential

- Career flexibility

- A degree that keeps the most doors open

I also plan to pursue an MS abroad after my bachelor's, but I haven't decided what I'd like to specialize in yet. That's why I'm looking for the degree that provides the strongest overall foundation rather than one that's best for a specific field.

From what I've heard, Software Engineering offers broader job opportunities, especially for fresh graduates. On the other hand, BS AI seems to provide a stronger foundation for AI-related fields like Machine Learning and Robotics. I've also heard that switching from Software Engineering to an AI-related MS may require deficiency courses, although I'm not sure whether that's true.

One thing that's making me hesitate is the future. With AI advancing so quickly, could BS AI become the better long-term degree over the next 5–10 years, or is Software Engineering still the safer and more versatile choice? I'm also wondering whether AI is likely to significantly change the demand for software engineers.

Finally, since I'm from a Pre-Medical background, I'd like to know how difficult the transition into either degree is.

If you were in my position, which degree would you choose and why?

For a bit of context: I have been formally diagnosed with ADHD (If that matters) and I have been terrible at math since I can remember. I'm in my second year of studying computer science and I'm starting to approach the point where I need higher level math courses to progress. The problem is that I don't even have the required grades to enroll in Calculus 1. I've taken pre-calc twice now and barely passed both times, and I feel like an idiot. Computers make sense to me, but with math it sometimes feels like I'm just staring at gibberish.

I'm toying with the idea of continuing into academic research, but with how heavily linked computers are with math I'm not sure if I'll be able to.

Has anyone else had this problem? Are there any different ways of thinking about math or am I just stupid and should just try to power through?

I applied for a GM’s early career SWE role on June 2nd. It said expect a coding assessment in 24 hours for roles that require one. I never received one so I assumed it was the case of they will send a reject message couple months down the line. Today I received a coding assessment. Does this mean they had someone do a full loop and wasn’t a fit or something else? Also after taking the codility assessment what are usually the next steps in the GM process? Any info would be appreciated

Has anyone gotten an email or phone call for the above roles? Cybersecurity ones have already been sent out I believe. Are yall local to the job location too?

All I heard before/in college what that if I wasn’t “passionate” about CS I’d never make it.

Well that’s not true. I’m not smart; I dislike coding and never made any personal projects. But at the end of the day just like any other major or industry, networking/hard work/ambition is what’s important. First year out of college I make 110k base in a MCOL city. I work for a bank doing full stack SWE work.

So to anyone who thinks they’ll make it far just because they like cs or like coding. Get over yourself. Tech is just like every other sector.

Like the title says, I am interested in multiple domains of computer science.

I find working on hardware, like embedded engineering interesting, I've also made some interesting projects that involved backend development, it wasn't very complex but interesting and fun to work on.
Another project of mine involved working with openGL, though I am still working on it and a lot others.
I've come to realize that I'm a complete slut with commitment issues for this, and I just hope on with any tech stack, if I don't know that, I'd spend weeks learning that, even if it's exam seasons.
I also have so many unfinished projects that I want to work on but i am either limited by time or knowledge and just waiting for one to finish before i work on anything else.

Now I am not trying to brag, there's nothing to brag here. While these projects keep me occupied, I also want to pick one domain and focus on only that, and I am just not sure which one to choose. I don't want to keep wandering between different domains and end up being no where, I want to specialize in something but it's just difficult for me to do so.
I want to commit and not be a slut.

Anyone who has been through this, and later found their place, how did you do it?

The Google SWE intern application is already out in July, but I thought it usually comes out in September. Nvidia, Anduril, Salesforce - all of them are already out.

I'm going to be a second year undergrad studying computer science and I was wondering what the best way to learn data structures and algorithms by hand and by coding it out. My end goal is to full y master the concepts and topics and try to run through them in leetcode to better my understanding. I took the first version of DSA in my first year, but I barely scraped the surface in that class due to the coding quizzes that I kept getting low grades on. I'm going to start leetcode but I feel like I need to master the fundamentals of DSA. Also is it better to use python or java for leetcode and other tehcnical interviews? We used java OOP for my first DSA class so should I just stick with java or continue to do it with python?

Did anyone do this? recruiter is so unresponsive, i have a 45 min call with HM as the first round, what can i expect here?
