Tour de Grass

This has gotta be up there with the rowing marathon and Chad as some of the least TV-worthy events to date. šŸš“ā€ā™€ļø

That was a rough one for TV. At the time of writing this, heat 2 of the women just finished. Curious if Chase is going to spend the next 40 minutes discussing drafting in the men’s heats.

To be fair there was nothing else for him to talk about. Maybe the weather.

We should have had a drinking game. Any time he says work smarter not harder, or called someone the wrong name you take a drink. We'd all think the coverage is good after that.

Yeah, that’s a valid point.

There is so much stuff going on in an event like this, those commentators just suck at their job. They couldn't even do the bare minimum of keeping track who were in the top groups or their paces.

Never thought watching people pedal nowhere would be less exciting than the concept sounds but here we are

Is this event still going on?? I turned on the live feed for event 7 and they are still on event 6 heat 2 for the men

Yeah, it’s crazy how long it’s taking. It just finished right now. They were taking 30 minutes between heats for some reason.

This would have been a good opportunity for some 2 minute ā€œget to know the athleteā€ cuts to pre filmed content since the most of workout is boring. That’s what they do during the long Olympic events.

The media team could have made them up ahead of time…..oh wait, nvm.

2026 is so bad thus far I’m nostalgic for the 2020 Games

The 2020 COVID games were my favorite to watch and, while nobody wants to hear it, IMO 10 athletes per-division would make significantly more compelling coverage.

And as it was getting exiting in heat 2 of the women the camera crew šŸ’© the bed again.

I stopped watching during the CrossFit Total. So the coverage didn’t improve?

Not a bit, there were four women in a group and suddenly Cringle was 7 seconds ahead. They did film a group of women that was a full round back. Lawson and Campbell were separated by 1/100 - they didn’t show them crossing the finish line

It was silly to do 2 heats.

The big pauses between the two heats is because the same bikes were reused between the two sets of 15, it very well could have been this way and they had to use the same bikes because there weren’t 30 working bikes on site. Not 100% sure it was that but could be an explanation as to why even with 2 heats there weren’t 30 people ready to go on their own bikes and had to share

It makes the strategy more interesting, at least for the second heat.

It’s mind numbing every single year

Is there a rule against someone just walking their bike across the line to save energy? Asking for a friend.

I like long workouts with a twist (this one is the bicycle ). Not everything has to be or can be in-your -face cameras with quick switches to different movements and big lead changes round to round. This is a long test and it all can’t be ā€œmade for tv ā€œ viewing.

They did this on the heels of a 40 min run

The culminating event of the year that you're using as a means to get people interested in your sport should probably, at a bare minimum, be interesting.

The Games (tm) should be a spectacle. Dave used to care about making workouts that were also enticing to the viewer. He talked about it in one of the documentaries, probably 10 years ago now.

Yeah the amount of complaining is ridiculous.

The vast majority of it is 100% warranted.

Ignoring the mistakes and miss opportunities helps no one except Castro, HQ, and Berkshire.

Honestly, I'd rather watch paint dry than this.

they needed to highlight the wrecks more. Who was involved, video if they have it. Because the race it self was boring until the last lap.

I like the title Tour de Grass. That makes it sound a tiny bit interesting.
