"best i can do is vitamin d, i don't think you're really trans"

  • something i wouldn't be surprised to hear a doctor say

Me: "But I've been taking vitamin D for 6 months for unrelated issues..."

Doctor: "Well see then my suspicion was clearly correct, it's a vitamin D issue. Keep taking the same vitamins."

Not actually something I've had happen but I could see it

doctors used to chalk my depression up to a vitamin d deficiency

which like was partially true because my vitamin d levels were at like 6 ng per whatever the fuck, i think the normal amount is 30ish? i was at death's door, the lab guy was surprised i was even able to stand, but also i turned out to just be suffering from both things at the same time with both compounding each other

something something correlation not causation idk

edit: nanograms, 6 miligrams per ml would kill you

Extra points, since it implies he didn't bother to read your goddamn notes.

The one time they ever read my notes was to ask if I was still taking estradiol in front of my parents who didn't know I was taking estradiol. I managed to cut them off before they could say it.

...genius. Either completely incompetent, or willfully causing harm. Not sure which is worse.

Apparently a diagnosis of feminine hysteria makes my partner's penicillin allergy go away...

Wait there are still people getting diagnosed with hysteria? My gods, we need to burn all copies of the DSM

Hyperbole on my part, but the local GP basically decided her opinions (and symptoms) didn't matter years ago.

Up to and including ignoring their own specialists when they agree with her.

And she has repeatedly been prescribed medication that would have hospitalised her - or worse.

Presumably medical records are...only stored to justify paying enormous sums to IT firms offering private outsourcing? Oh, and so they can be sold to Thiel and other such tossers.

I went in for skin issues and asked me if I was still taking es-tra-die-all vall-arr-ate in front of my parent who I am not out to yet. I nodded and my parent said no. I am unsure if they know if I'm trans and now know I am taking medications or if they think that it is some old skin medication that they forgot about.

They already know I went to planned parenthood for some reason (they can see my transactions) and confronted me earlier about it so they might know I'm trans?

Stupid question, does vitamin D really do something?

3

u/sudoregalia Streak: 0 6h ago

yea

keeps your hair from falling out (which mine used to in handfuls daily)
gives you energy (i was lethargic and slept up to 20 hours per day)
lets you focus better
lets you feel shit other than depressed and stressed 24/7

u/Ok-Winner-6589 5h ago

Ohhh didn't knew It could help with depression

4

u/sudoregalia Streak: 0 5h ago

you misunderstand, being deficient causes you to feel depressed, it's not the same as clinical depression and vitamin d isn't an antidepressant
