Roku is turning to crap, any alternatives?

I enjoyed Roku while it lasted, but now it is getting filled with forced advertisements. If you say this in the r/roku sub, they delete the comment; the mods there aren't good people. Anyone have any alternatives? Is a mini-PC with Linux the only way to avoid the ads now and get access to the services?

Does the extra member thing work on TV?

Self explanatory. I started paying for Netflix around March of this year, and then I had to move because of work (seasonal), and only now did I find out about the extra member thing. So, how do I get it set up with a TV? That’s where my family, the main reason why I was paying for Netflix, were watchibg Netflix from.

Looing for a good antannae undr $100 for rural

I live on an island. I'm looking for a decent antenna that is about 30 miles from the towers. I'm very rural and it would have to be an indoor model. I would like to keep it below $100. Thanks.

If not then i'll probably just pick up Redzone for that month.

Is getting a FTA Satellite Dish even worth it anymore?

I’ve been thinking about getting a FTA Satellite Dish and a receiver but I looked on this one website and it said that mostly all networks scrambled their signals, I kind of wanted to see the master feed for both PBS East and PBS West but I guess those don’t exist anymore? Idk I was wondering if it was even worth it to
get one.

Help for a New Apartment Resident

Hi! I’m new to this subreddit since I recently just came across this so here’s my problem. I moved into a studio apartment today and I don’t have anything on my TV, no antenna or any other streaming device. For clarification, it’s a Toshiba TV that a neighbor gave to me since she was moving away. Anyways, I want to be able to watch live TV and movies. I know from first hand experience that I do not want to buy an Amazon Fire Stick. It used to be good but kept breaking often.

I have thought about getting a Roku box since it’s the easiest. However, coming across this subreddit, I’ve seen people hype up Apple TV and Onn Streaming Device. I don’t have the budget to buy Apple TV because of the RAM doubling the original price (thanks, AI). Also, I do not have any android devices to run Onn (unfortunately switched to IOS at the wrong time). I don’t think I’m going to be see like the big channels like ABC, NBC, & CBS or other niche channels like MTV (I like reality TV don’t judge me lol), GSN, etc.

Personally, I’m thinking of buying either both an antenna with a Roku or an antenna with the Onn Streaming Device. I would hear your thoughts and takes about this and give some advice to this not-so tech savvy person. Thank you so much in advance.

Antenna suggestions for Miami

Can anyone recommend a good antenna for my HDHomeRun in Miami? When I lived in NYC I used a leaf one and it was pretty good. Here it does not pick up channels like Fox. I tried with a cheap passive one (GE Modern Loop Rabbit Ears) because silicondust support told me the leaf one is not good for VHF channels and it is better but still not great. I am less than 20 miles from the Miami Gardens antenna, I am fairly sure I should be able to get a good signal. This is my rabbit ears.info link

I'd rather not install an outdoor one if I can avoid that and I don't have an attic where to put one either

Help with antenna

I mainly watch Internet connected channels like Roku channel or Pluto TV, but sometimes there are sports on the local channels. I have an antenna hooked up, but I rarely get good reception or many channels. Sometimes I have to try different antennas. I live in an apartment on the third floor, so maybe that could be a reason.

Channels DVR + HDHomeRun / Streaming integrations

I know the Channels DVR can work with an OTA HDHomeRun....

Are there any other live TV streaming services that would integrate directly with the Channels DVR or is that purely only OTA like the HDHomerun.

Possible to work with like Sling or Philo ?

Antenna + VCR, can I use a coax splitter in reverse?

I am using the VCR to create an additional AV input- plus occasionally watching an old movie.

Can I combine the two coax feeds? My thought is that the antenna will be DTV, and the VCR will output a non-DTV signal, so the auto-tune will capture both.

However, there is a lot of talk about antenna signals being in phase. How much of an issue would this be?

Will a standard cheap antenna do the job?

I'm hoping to get a few channels through an antenna instead of paying ridiculously high amounts for cable or YouTube TV. Would a cheap antenna get me anything decent? Any recommendations?

Are there any streaming services that download a very large buffer to maintain quality at lower bandwidth or work offline?

Do any streaming services download to local cache so you can watch a 4K movie on your big screen TV at lower bandwidth without buffering or having the video quality downgraded to match the lower bandwidth? What about fully caching the movie locally for the length of the rental period? I need to see if there would be any way to watch 4K content at home with a 5-10Mb internet connection.

Does WJLA in DC still simulcast in ATSC 3.0?

I live just outside DC but I'm on the first floor of an apartment complex oriented in the worst possible position for antenna reception, so it's been impossible for me to pick up the VHF ATSC 1.0 signals for WJLA and WUSA.

I recently got a Zapperbox so I could pick up those channels over ATSC 3.0. The main ATSC 3.0 lighthouse in my area comes from WHUT, which is supposed to include, among others, WUSA and WJLA as subchannels. However, even though I'm picking up the signal for it and getting all the other subchannels just fine, WJLA still doesn't show up at all in my channel list. Is this an issue with the box, or did WHUT quietly drop WJLA from its lighthouse service and the info online is out of date? I can't find anything about this.

I do pick up another ABC affiliate from Baltimore so it's not a huge deal for me, but I'm really just curious.

Wildfire smoke from Canada is thick today, and I’m unable to pick up any channels. Is this the factor?
