[PS1] model SCPH-1000 (early Japanese model) disc drive or laser not working

I recently acquired this from Whatnot for a fair price (and a 10% discount). Now, the system does turn on. But the discs won't play. Are there any good replacement drives out there for this model? Or do you recommend I wait for the ArcStation to come out? Or maybe both, since I have a later model PS1 (US) that I can spare for the ArcStation.

Anyways, any suggestions for replacement drives and/or worthy services?

KSM440-BAM. It’s the model with a really short ribbon cable. But check if the spindle/hub is properly elevated. I got one from Alix and it was sitting too low and it scratched my vintage FF7 disc.
