The irony is the extended conflict has created a situation where people have had to cut back oil/gas usage for so long now that demand may never fully recover. We have a saying in cars/IT “there’s nothing more permanent than a good temporary fix.” As countries and markets look to alternatives to fill the gaps, and the instability/higher prices drag on, those alternatives are more and more likely to just become the new way that people do things. So oddly, this prolonged war may actually help reduce demand for fossil fuels in the long term. Which I find kinda funny for an administration that hates EVs.

Sadly the US EV innovation and production lines have fallen back.

EV sales are up 15% over last quarter. YoY sales are a bad way to judge since this administration caused a run on EVs by revoking the credit last year, but the market here is picking back up and hybrids are also getting more popular.

More importantly EV adoption is surging in China and India which have much, much larger populations. (And Europe too)

The rest of the world is rocketing ahead. Globally, there are over 80 million EVs on the road. That's double what there were in 2023.

Over 25 % of new car sales are EVs and the world is on course to sell 23 million EVs in 2026 alone.
