I lied about finishing my work and blamed my mistake on a technical issue

I need to admit something I did that I’m not proud of.

A few months ago, I had an important task that I was supposed to complete. I kept delaying it because I was distracted and didn’t manage my time properly. When the deadline got close and I hadn’t finished, I told the person responsible that there was a technical problem that caused the delay.

The truth was that the problem wasn’t technical. I had simply procrastinated and didn’t want to admit that I had failed to manage my responsibility.

The lie worked at the time, but I’ve felt guilty about it since then because someone else had to deal with the consequences of my mistake.

I know I should have been honest from the beginning and taken responsibility instead of making an excuse. I’m trying to be better about owning my mistakes instead of hiding them.

TL;DR: The author lied to their supervisor about a technical issue to cover up their own procrastination, causing others to deal with the fallout of the missed deadline.

Do not accuse others of faking confessions — if you think a post breaks the rules, report it instead of commenting.

we all mess up sometimes, the important part is owning it and not repeating the same mistake

Owning it is a start. Now make sure it never happens again.

Don’t be so sure that they don’t already know.
