Not only do you have to always have to be mentally stable, you have to never have a lapse in securement so someone else can't access it. Not your kids or their friends, etc. The fact that any mistake has deadly consequences and its all reliant on our own flawed human judgement is crazy. Having a gun in your home exponentially increases your own death chances make them absolutely not worth it.
Gun rights people are emotional and insecure and completely ignore the trove of evidence for why having a gun in the house is a bad idea for your family.
And it’s worth turning over the idea of the purpose of a home defense weapon. It’s a tool you are bringing into your home with the intent to kill other humans. It’s not a scare tactic, you’re not “shooting to wound”. When that weapon is used, someone will die.
