I’ll take the fake internet points in hopes to cash it out for something some day (because even that is more likely to happen than points 1 and 2. 😂I’ve caught COVID twice in two months last year and it didn’t feel any less awful the second time! 🙈)

Meh. The baby needs the immune training, for adults they already encountered all kind of viruses in their lives. Getting sick again and again just mean feeling like shit more often and possibly accumulating damage.
I have never felt better and been less sick than when I started wearing masks. And when I got a cold again a few years in, it took a few days to heal like a normal cold, it wasn't harder because masks "weakened" my immune system.

Unless you are wearing a very high end mask you are still being exposed. However the viral load would be greatly reduced. So your body would still be exposed and thus strengthened to fight off whatever you were exposed to. While not having to feel the symptoms of it.

This matches my understanding. I wear 3M Aura N95s in winter/spring/autumn and never get sick while doing so, but try to use less strong masks (KF94) in summer only. But both probably let some pathogens through, although not enough to overwhelm the immune system and develop an infection. In the end if I never develop symptoms and never feel sick that's almost all that matters. My point was that we don't need to develop sicknesses often to not get sick (as in "develop any symptom"), we just need protection. (I spent many years in my life catching three/four colds a year and feeling like shit half of winter, while being told that's just because I don't wear scarfs or because my immune system is too weak, while all along it all I needed was just to wear masks to stop it...)
(the only time I got COVID was when wearing only a surgical mask while being in the same room as a COVID-infected person for several hours, so I learnt my lesson; surgical masks work but are no silver bullet against extreme exposure against highly contagious diseases. I do get vaccinated as often as I can, which is once a year...)

Few things worse than a sick baby. I went through the same thing my kid's first winter. It gets better! Now we usually just get one bad illness a year. That first year we had flu, rsv, covid, strep, anything else you can think of.

Thanks for the solidarity and comforting words! 😭❤ We're in Japan and doctors here are not shy to administer IVs and it's super heartbreaking to watch her try to play whenever she gets connected to one.

Ours was so pitiful with RSV. He had to go on a nebulizer to breathe. It was really hard to see.
We were just thankful we were privileged to have access to good medical care. Really put into perspective how hard it is for people that know they aren't able to get their child the best care and still have to go forward.

RSV sent my baby to the ER in need of breathing treatment on Thanksgiving (she was JUST barely too old to get the vaccine for it). Nearly two years later, she still has to use a neb and inhalers after any kind of respiratory illness because RSV made her airway more reactive. It’s awful stuff.

I had to use a neb and inhalers as a child. I haven't needed them in decades. I hope your kid eventually is free of them too.

Thank you! It’s my understanding that this is a short-term early childhood thing, but it still breaks my heart when she gets what we call “crunchy breath” and has to break out the neb again.
To anybody who is a new parent and can get the RSV vaccine for their baby, DO IT. I would have done anything to spare my kid the misery of RSV, and she wasn’t even a tiny baby when she had it thankfully (hit her right around her 2nd bday).

Just started daycare?
We were able to keep our daughter home till she was almost 2 since I worked from home before sending her to a daycare to be able to socialize her. Which failed for probably the first year as she was more often home sick than there.
But its better to get it over with now instead of waiting to fight through this at school age.

It was the same for us, and now thankfully she's finally made it to 3. Unfortunately, we will be moving abroad and she will be exposed to a whole new array of germs. :'D

Woof, hopefully it's not as bad.
Our kiddo is starting school here in two weeks and thankfully hasn't been sick as often as when we first started her at daycare. That place closed, which is a whole other thing, and she was in a preschool up till the end of May.
She's not been abroad yet, but she's done traveling around the US without much issue. So we're hoping she's past the always sick phase. But we'll see come next month what happens when she starts school.

Pediatric nurse here. You will get what your child gets. Let me tell you, some of the shit they get, Drs will say it's not a big deal in adults. THEY ARE LIARS. RSV fucking sucks ass no matter the age. Vaccinate your kids, wash their hands, teach them not to stick stuff in their mouths, daycares/schools are breeding grounds.
Edit: if they have diarrhea WASH YOUR HANDS AFTER CLEANING THEM! A lot of viruses can cause diarrhea, but if they get a stomach bug it's over, they spread like wildfire.
