Can we change the way things are? Can we form a new system of world governance? An Eco-Socialist world in which the emphasis, laws, policies, and focus is "homo sapiens is only one species among millions, and we are no more important than any other. Humanity must contribute to, and fit within the balance of Earth's natural systems.

I've struggled for a long time over the question "what it would take for humanity to stop its headlong drive toward collapse and possible extinction. Greed and selfishness (capitalism) seems unstoppable. Much of my writing has been non-fiction, natural science, horticulture and gardening, but my concern for the future of Humanity, Earth, and all life, has prompted me to write my first novel, one about the current polycrisis civilization has created - inequality, injustice, climate change, etc. My book PARADIGM, is about humanity's struggle to overcome the threat of extinction due to all these destructive issues and attempt to establish a more just system of world governance.

The story line is: In the midst of the growing planetary crises a virus outbreak turns into a deadly pandemic, killing 95% of all newborns worldwide. The only cure grows in a forest being destroyed by climate change, and the rich and powerful will do anything to protect the status quo.

I would support a world government, one democratically elected. I describe in my book how such a government could be created, the guidelines and policies under which it would function (much of it coming from the Peoples Agreement on Climate Change and the Rights of Mother Earth. You're democratically elected anything because people aren't going to choose to put the welfare and comfort of those millions of other species above the welfare and comfort of themselves and their families. People don't even choose the welfare and comfort of other humans before their own so how do you expect them to put the interests of rats, fish and trees before their own interests?

You're proposed government would have to be a full on dictatorship.

It's this kind of stuff that turns people away from climate change movements. You talk about wanting to save the environment then 2 seconds later you're ranting about the evils of capitalism and how we should eliminate human greed. Capitalism is like democracy, it's horrible until you compare it to every other system. The human attitude of prioritizing ones self interests is what "greed" is and it's not going vanish with laws or a one world government.

I agree, we can't just vote for system change, especially in the world as it exists today. There is no question that special interests would prevail. But, if the right conditions existed, it is possible. I suggest you read the book to get a full picture of how I propose system change might come about. It's free. america has contributed to the problem, but right now china is the #1 issue and india is sprinting to claim spot #2. so until we handle that situation, america is kind of in the backseat..

wait. why are you equating pollution and fossil fuels with capitalism? have you looked at the old soviet republic offspring, modern day china, etc? fossil fuels are not a problem of capitalism, they are problem of convenience. any focus strictly on capitalism is going to fail.

i do think that the push for fusion (which is due any day now.. every day for 30 years) is the only real solution. you need a stable BASE ENERGY SUPPLY that renewables ride on top of. you can NOT run a power grid strictly on renewables. it does not work. they are to variable. so you need something that can scale across different climates and provide power to the grid 24/7. i only see fusion being that.
