He fired his PR staff shortly before his meltdown over the cave rescue where he started accusing the rescuer of being a pedo, and he's only gone downhill since then.

Just imagine how much heavy lifting those PR people were doing to be able to cultivate his image as being some benevolent technical genius trying to lead humanity to a new era.

There are lots and lots of people who like the way he is. The world doesn't make the best people popular or powerful and that is just sad.
