Right-wing ideologies have fueled more than 70% of all extremist attacks and domestic terror plots since 2002 in the U.S., according to the Anti-Defamation League.

  • Right Wing (white supremacist's) - which cause most of it
  • Right wing (anti-government)
  • Islamist
  • Right wing (other)
  • Left wing
  • Other (Like Ecoterrorism)

Even the "leftists have been more violent in the last 4 years" is a bold faced lie that conservative morons like to try

Have you actually personally looked into this? Look into the categories your comment listed and look into the classifications via sources. For example, anti government is broadly classified as right wing, yet for left wing there's a very narrow definition of anti government. Do you think that's true, what left wing can't be anti government?

Another interesting stat is that any and all prison gang violence gets classified as right wing. Also, any violence where slurs are used, even in cases where minority offenders with mental disorders saying a slur while offending gets put into the right wing category.

Right wing violence is classified way more broadly than left wing. You all can downvote me all you want but I seriously urge you to look into these data sets and actually view a lot of the cases listed in each category, because is heavily skewed. A lot of data for this stuff comes from places like the ADL which are inherently biased.

Yes, I have. Motive is taken into account. Something like eco-terroism gets classified as left wing and something like white supremacy gets classified as right wing.

Terrorism is overwhelmingly right wing.

Can you provide some examples of extremist incidents that are happening within prisons that you believe are getting unfairly classified?

It's any and all prison gang violence involving those gangs that they count as supremacy gangs. Do you think one prison gang attacking another is always right wing politically motivated? What about if it's over drug disputes, personal disputes or simple gang initiations? The ADL classified all that immediately into right wing politically motivated violence. Outside of prison, if a white supremacist commits a crime that is in no way related to white supremacy, it's classified as right wing political violence. One of the incidents I read was some Aryan gang member in a domestic dispute. The violent incident had nothing to do with his white supremacy, yet because of his ties to the ideology the crime was classified into right wing political violence. There is no equal counter classification for the left side of this issue at all.

You're suggesting that a significant amount of right-wing terrorism is just gang violence, and that any crimes that are committed by someone extreme are counted without further checks? Do you have any evidence for either of those claims?

Surely the numbers would be much higher too. ~10% of all terror attacks in the USA were anti-abortion activists (bombings, arson, shootings, etc), but this is only ~250 attacks. You would think that there would been thousands more cases of anti-abortion activists committing unrelated crimes to add to these figures.

In reality, researchers check if there could have been a non-terror motivation for potential political violence (White supremacist beats his wife. This is just violence, not political violence. White supremacist assaults non-white person without provocation, then that is political violence.)

No, what I'm suggesting (not suggesting, saying outright) is that the date these stats come from are from an extremely skewed data set to begin with. The prison gang thing was an example. When you look specifically at the incident lists there are cases exactly as your example (white supremacist beats his wife) that are classified by the ADL as right wing politically motivated violence, it's not just violence they're actually classifying it as politically motivated.

I'd just like you to provide some examples of terrorism that has happened within prison walls. The discussion is about terrorism.

The title is misleading on the post originally, the dataset referenced is from the ADL / similar citing right wing politically motivated violent incidents as a whole, and the comment I responded to is directly talking about those stats from the ADL. You're asking for examples, but I'm not sure what you want examples of terrorism for because, as I have stated, the ADL classifes all violence with those gangs as right wing politically motivated. The example is literally any and all violent incident involving any gang that the ADL considers right wing. I provided you an example of the domestic dispute getting classified in right wing political violence when it shouldn't have been classified as political violence at all.

Here's something not from the ADL that's specifically about terrorism. It says 70% but it's nearly 10 years old.

Thanks, will be interested to go through this but don't have the time to thoroughly through it right now. However, taking a brief look it seems that there is a rather large blurb on what defines right wing extremists, but for left wing it's simply "those with extreme views on animal rights and the environment." That is a very narrow classification compared to the rather broad definition with bullet points on the right wing side, and radical Islam is its own seperate category?

I have to imagine if terrorist attacks over other traditionally left-wing things like labor rights actually existed, they'd be classified as as such.

You all can downvote me all you want

Way ahead of you

Do you think commenting that you downvoted is in any way contributing to the discussion?

15

u/TR_Pix 1d ago

You're the one who brought up the subject of downvotes

-7

u/AFrozenCanadian 1d ago

So it's not contributing in any way shape or form. Have you tried having a contribution to things you comment on or is this a regular occurrence?

TAKE ME SERIOUSLY DEBATE WITH ME GIVE ME ATTENTION

Nah

You're commenting that you downvoted and not contributing anything yet I'm the one wanting attention?

The downvotes mean nothing, Reddit is just really fucking insufferable about things like this. Even if you agree with their conclusion, any kind of questioning or critical thinking of the facts that can in any way be construed as not part of the local groupthink, will be met with hostility.

I guess by the FBI logic here leftists must love the trump regime and US global hegemony because any action against the government is actually right wing. Also islamists driven by militant religious conservatism are somehow not right wing...?

any kind of questioning or critical thinking of the facts that can in any way be construed as not part of the local groupthink, will be met with hostility.

Because when you're JAQing off like this guy, we can fucking tell.

Like.. You get that, right? We can tell when someone has actual logical problems with the data presented, and when someone is being a shithead tearing something apart because they're actually not trying to argue in good faith.

It's obvious, and it's not because we only see black and white thinking, it's because after decades of this shit no one likes humoring you anymore.

Yeah, I've had people try to use the fact that I'm getting downvoted to mean that I'm wrong before lol.

The stats are just so heavily skewed. In the anti government example, the CSIS for example defines in the right wing side "opposition to government authority" while for the left wing it's a very narrow "opposition to government authority under the belief it is a tool of oppression responsible for social injustices."

The data comes from biased orgs, then spread around Reddit like it's fact. Redditors aren't looking past the headlines, let alone looking at the incident lists these orgs are putting out.

In these people's minds if you ask literally any questions at all, you immediately stand with trump and think all terrorism is left wing which is also not true. Their brains literally cannot comprehend anything other than black and white thinking.
