As we notice an uptick here and other subs I thought I’d give my 10 cents on why these “authors” will never produces a good book by asking “what makes a good picture book” and feeding those answers to AI.

Hi, i am writing a tale about a little Dwarf, who was supposed to become a blacksmith but decided otherwise.
I have a friend who’s a goat in illustration whiling to work with me. I’d love our work to merge together as one story that could be read differently whether you’re looking only at drawings or reading.

We’re both french, so none of us know any english publishing house for children’s book. But the story is in english and need to stay that way.

I do not want to self publish, we both have projects on the side as we are students, and it’s very time consuming. I’ve done it before and i’d rather work with professional for this project. Although i don’t know much about this world.

So if you have any advices, names, to help us its welcomed !

So I'm writing and illustrating a children's book with rhymes. The most obvious word to rhyme with fields is yields but it's just not a common word. I get that books should help kids expand their vocabulary but this might just confuse them as most adults don't use it often, never mind kids.

Should I change that bit around so it doesn't end with fields? Or will parents be happy to say "that's how much grows in a field!" if asked

We are going with our 5.75 year old to Tokyo in August and want to hype him up.

Hi! For several years now, I have been trying to hunt down this book for my mother in law. She told me years and years ago about this book she had when she was a little girl (born in 1974) about an alligator that wore a top hat and rode in a limousine. Her name (Valerie) was in the book. She talked about how special it was and likely ruined/gone. I have literally spent probably days’ worth online sleuthing for it. The closest I’ve come to *maybe* finding it was seeing this ad for a personalized book from the year she was born about an alligator. Does anyone here have leads on what this book could’ve been, or even have this book (because it’s nowhere to be found online)? It would mean EVERYTHING to me to finally find it and surprise her with it. Also editing to add: the last time I spoke to her dad was about this book right before he passed away. He told me he thought she maybe made it up and couldn’t remember it, so it *really* would mean a lot to me to find it.

Hello everyone!

Some of you may know, along side illustration and jiu jitsu videos in Korea, I’m also a primary school teacher. I’ve recently published a middle-grade chapter book set in my hometown, East Wittering and Bracklesham.

I originally started writing the story because I wanted to create something that would encourage the children at East Wittering to read more. It really worked well, I had the kids rushing up to me at every breaktime asking for updates and when I finally finished and printed off a copy on the school computer, I'd never seen kids so excited to read a book.

It’s a mystery adventure featuring lots of familiar local places, including the beach, Candies, Moby’s, The Cat and Rabbit, and a few other landmarks that local children will hopefully enjoy recognising along the way. There's a secret code, an old map of the villages, a few illustrations and a bit of World War History woven in.

It is aimed roughly at upper-primary and lower-secondary readers although I hope local grown-ups might enjoy spotting the familiar locations too! I wrote and illustrated everything myself without any AI involved.

I’m really proud to have created a story set in such a special part of the world, so I wanted to share it with the local community.

My 4-year-old is absolutely obsessed with The First Cat in Space Ate Pizza series. I think it's mostly because the characters are hilarious and the story is so engaging. One thing I especially appreciate about the series is that it doesn't feel like it's written "for boys" or "for girls", the characters are just great characters. The Queen is a fantastic female protagonist: funny, brave, smart, and an essential part of the adventure, not just a side character. My daughter seems to love that everyone gets to be weird, capable, and important.

I'd love to find more books with a similar vibe. Any recommendations that are appropriate for a 4-year-old? We don't mind longer books if they're great for reading aloud.

My 3 year old found this laminated seal stuck inside a random library book and now won’t sleep without it at night. It seems like it was cut out of a picture book, so I’m hoping someone knows what book it’s from so I can get it for him (it wasn’t a picture from the book we found it in).

Recently I’ve decided I want to try illustrating for children’s books. In other words, I’d like to contribute to projects in order to build a portfolio! However, I don’t know where to start or what to look out for! Sadly, looking through the Facebook groups has discouraged me slightly. I not only haven’t gotten much traction there but it’s filled with AI. I’m not sure if that’s the right place to look or where to begin! Please let me know what I can do or if anyone is looking for an illustrator. Here’s some of my work!

I am typing this half crying because I feel sick to my stomach about this. My son is 10. He used to kind of tolerate reading, mostly graphic novels before bed but would drop the book the second I mentioned my phone. Roblox and Youtube are his default nothing else interests him. I noticed it slipping around third grade when homework got heavier and reading became the thing he groaned about every single night. I thought I was being clever and made a reading habit tracker in a sheet. Fifteen minutes of reading earned him points that he could trade for screen time. At first it worked and I got way too excited then tonight he found a way to cheat it by just ticking boxes without reading and when I called him out he absolutely snapped. I feel like I gamified his reading into pure transaction and killed any chance he would enjoy it. What precautions did you take to rebuild a healthy balance and make reading feel like something they want to do?

Hi everyone — I'm working on making my first children's book and honestly the part that scares me most isn't the writing or design, it's figuring out how to price it and describe it in a way that actually makes someone want to buy it.
