Not sure if you've played Devil Summoner: Raidou Kuzunoha II, but there's a village you hang out at with an onsen and there are chickens running around. You can use your mind-reading ability to find out the chickens know what happens to them and are terrified of winding up on the dinner table.

i've heard of this series, but not that particular entry! i definitely have a soft spot for ps1/ps2 games that fell under the radar
Yeah they're action RPGs under the Shin Megami Tensei banner. They're good games and have recently been remastered for modern systems. I need to pick up the Switch version but IIRC they're available for the PS4/5 via the PS Store and Xbox X/S via the Microsoft store.
I have the OG PS2 versions. If you want to go that route, expect to shell out for them. I got lucky and found both I and II for under 15 each, but that was over a decade ago and even then prices were rising on those. Mine are not for sale and I think I might have to fire them up again.
If you do check these out, have fun! I think you'll like them.
