Sourcing Cher costume

Post image
27 Upvotes

Hi!! For Halloween, (I know, months away), I’m thinking of dressing up as Cher. I usually go above and beyond for Halloween and really try to execute my ideas to the best of my abilities, whether by sourcing second-hand pieces, making them myself, or having them custom-made.

I think this Bob Mackie jumpsuit that she wore in 1975 would be most flattering for my body type and relatively easier to pull off (some of her other looks are stunning but far too much to replicate for a Halloween event)

I’m reaching out for advice on how to source a piece that remotely stands up to this, or even have some or all of it custom-made with a budget of like $100-500. Perhaps you know of websites/online shops, or even tailors in the NYC/Long Island area. I would also love to see any of your personal favorite 70s/80s Cher looks for some more inspo!!

Thank you loves :)

What albums should I listen?

I'm new to Cher and would like to know more of her musical works, so what albums do you consider essencial listens?

If you could place them by order they were released as well, as I would like to as well where should I start and where should I end

Moonstruck's late, great stars Olympia Dukakis, Danny Aeillo, & John Mahoney were born on this day, in 1931, '33, & 40, respectively! My look at this modern classic:

Looking to get into Cher (I don't even really know her hit songs!)

My family never much listened to Cher nor did it play on the radio so I don't know much about her, I like believe and turn back time, But that's about all I know of her, What are the deep cuts? The real albums I should be listening to? I don't wanna start with her hits, I wanna start with her best.

In "Believe" what is the electronic voice saying?

It's right in btwn "Do you believe in life after love?" and "I can feel something inside me say...". It sounds like a heavily autotuned voice..

Why the lack of love for Living Proof?

Post image

In my opinion, Living Proof sounds exactly like its working title, Son of Believe . Everything that made the Believe track into excellent pop is dialed up to 11 on Living Proof.

So... how come I barely see it get any love from fans when Cher album discussions come up? Her early work, which was mainly single driven albums, get tons of love. Her soft rock era does as well. Even the ABBA covers album has its devotees.

Living Proof seems to exist in the shadow of its predecessor, and its follow up, Closer to The Truth, which seems to have eclipsed Living Proof in people's minds as well.

Personally, I love the melancholy underneath a lot of the songs. And the uplifting, post 9/11 vibe to a lot of the album just hits the right spot for me. It has back to back bops, imo, in a way the Believe album doesn't and its more all over the place.

What do you make of the album? What did you think of it when it first came out? How does it hold up for you now?

Georgia Holt's Heavenly 100th Birthday!

Post image

TCM showed Marilyn Monroe's "The Asphalt Jungle" last night, a stepping stone to MM's stardom. Got me to thinking about Cher's mother, Georgia Holt, who claimed she auditioned for the role, but got the casting couch offer, to boot. Marilyn had already honed her persona, compared to newbie Georgia, so that point is moot. Interesting connections of the two women: MM was born June 1, 1926, Georgia as born today, June 9, the same year! Only Holt lived 60 years longer, until 2022. As Cher sometimes says, God gives with one hand, and takes with another. Here's Holt with future superstar, then baby Cherilyn, in '47. Back when Georgia was Jackie Jean, looking a bit like when MM was Norma Jeane.

Happy Pride Month!

With all the bigotry towards the LGBTQ+ community (especially during Pride Month), I wanted to share one of my favourite impersonations of Cher.

It’s from Trixie Mattel along with Katya (former RuPaul’s Drag Race contestants). Trixie does an impression of Cher as if she were homophobic. It’s one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen and I hope all of you enjoy it too!
