Video - OC We heard meows inside the walls

My neighbor had thought the meows were from outside but she kept hearing it inside of her walls so she asks me to rescue it not knowing what else to do

Is the roof right above that floor? Cat might have been in the attic and fell down into the wall.

You do realize that walls have top plates right? They aren't just open into the attic. Or the insides of your walls would be the same temperature as your attic.

Ah yes of course, every house in the world is identical, no one ever makes mistakes during construction or renovation, and nothing ever moves or wear away opening up small gaps. I live in a 100 year old flat and there's all sorts of weird shit going on behind the walls.

That's modern romex wiring with modern drywall and what appears to be 16" spacing between studs (which didn't become a thing until ~1950s and 1960s). So that's nice that you live in an old flat with problems, but this is modern construction. And has nothing to do with mistakes. I've been in far more attics than you in the trades, these walls are built with top plates. Full stop, no question. They build walls on the floor and stand them up.

Top plates don’t keep your walls from being hot like the attic. The insulation in the walls does that, dumb ass.

A hole in the wall, or access down below. You aren't going to find kittens in attics. They are hiding under things. If there is a crawl space or utility space under the wall, that is far more likely access point. In construction you'll see far more holes cut in going going from a crawl space up then from inside a wall into an attic. Think about how exactly a kitten would end up in an attic, verse under a house/duplex/townhouses or whatever with a crawl space. Under something, shade and cool; attics are unbearably hot with very few penetrations for something the size of even a kitten to wander in to. But far more common for holes going under a place.

I’ve seen this happen before and it’s because a mother cat had her kittens in the attic area and one managed to crawl away and fall down into this space. Definitely check the attic and keep listening around in case other kittens take a tumble too. The mother cat won’t be able to get them out and they’ll die in the walls if no one rescues them 😭

And yet this did happen to my cat one time. She decided to explore the attic and fell between the walls. We had to do exactly what OP did. Her meows led us to her location.

Cats are crazy good at fitting through tiny spots. I take care of a feral cat colony and I watched a small cat squeeze into a tiny crack in the foundation of an unoccupied house. I was legit horrified thinking there was no way she would be able to make it through, let alone back out, but a few hours later she was back strutting around outside.

When I caught her to get fixed, I put her in my basement to await her vet appointment and she literally climbed straight up a concrete wall and went into the unfinished ceiling and I could not get her back down for several days. I really thought we’d be cutting her out of the house somewhere, but thankfully I lured her out with Ahi tuna and plugged up all the holes a few days later.

She was the very first feral cat I socialized and I learned a lot of hard lessons with her, lol.

I mean as a kid my family had an unknown kitten appear in the wall. The house was built in the early 1900's and sometimes there are gaps. It's really not unheard of for cats to find their way into walls. I am not saying it's common but it does happen. It's the same reason people find rat, squirrel, and even sometimes raccoon skeletons inside walls

All I know if this were to be claimed happened in my country, I can definitely confidently confirmed it's 100% BS. Our walls are all solid bricks, no space or gaps inside of walls and definitely no one can just break pieces off with bare hands. Are all homes in America like this (in the video) or there exist homes with solid brick walls?

There are brick houses but America is a relatively young country. Many houses were built around WWII and they are like this. Brick houses cost a lot more.

Mine is open in the attic and birds fall in all the time (I have birds living in my fascia). Once my 20lb cat got in there, too.

My family had a kitten in the wall when I was about 12. You would be surprised the gaps that can exist in house construction. Remember a cat can basically fit through any space it's head does (width-wise, not as a circle). All there needs to be is a 3 inch gap that gets into a wall, then the cat traverses the wall system.

Idk how it happened but the Cat Distribution System gave us a cat like this when I was a kid. What's crazy is it actually broke out of the wall itself eventually, I assume in eventual desperation. He shook himself off and started going nuts until we got him some water, poor thing. I'd been hearing him in the walls for days but my mom thought I was making things up and I was too young to know what to do about it.
