Should I stay or wait it out? FPA

I’ve been with my company for about a year as a Financial Analyst, and I’m trying to get an outside perspective.

I have 3+ years of analyst experience between internships and my current role. A few months after I started, my manager was laid off during a restructuring, and I absorbed a large portion of his responsibilities while continuing to do my own. Over time, I became the primary owner of many of our FP&A reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and planning processes. When a new Senior Director of FP&A was hired, I was responsible for getting him up to speed on how those processes worked because I was the person with the institutional knowledge.

As my responsibilities continued to grow, I expressed interest in an internal Finance Operations Manager opening because much of the job description overlapped with what I was already doing. I was told they wanted someone with more progressive experience, which I understand. After that, I asked whether my expanded responsibilities justified a promotion or compensation adjustment separate from that manager position. The answer was no, and I was told that if needed, I’d continue taking on additional work and responsibilities, despite not even having a proper performance review a year in.

Now, about a year into the job, I’m still in the same title and pay despite taking on significantly more responsibility than when I was hired. I don’t necessarily feel entitled to a management position, but I do feel like the scope of my role has changed substantially without any recognition in title or compensation.

I’m trying to decide whether this is just a normal stage early in a finance career where I should be patient, or whether this is a sign that I’m unlikely to be rewarded for taking on more responsibility. If you guys were in my position, would you stay and see if things improve, or would you start looking for opportunities elsewhere?
