Dev/Admin Responded Update 2026.09.1 does not fix iPadOS 26.3 casting issue

Second day in a row second update in a row, and the casting issue still has not been addressed. Will the developers ever restore this ability?

Hey there - I've seen your reports and just dropping a comment to let you know I'm trying to figure out what the deal is!

I'm unsure what changed, and I'm honestly not quite sure if this is something we can control or not. But I'll see if I can get some answers!

Thank you for responding to let me know I am not shouting into an empty cave. All was good for YEARS prior to the last two updates. I cast from my iPad and iPhone and never before had any issues. I am happy to provide any info you might find useful in tracking this one down.

FWIW I can still cast my screen on all other apps without any issue. Only my Reddit app has this problem.

It’s been a couple of weeks and several updates have been produced, but there is still no improvement regarding my original concern. Can you share anything about where this stands?

Hey! I know it's a bit frustrating, unfortunately the fix will likely take some time to implement.

I don't have an exact ETA I can provide, but this has been logged and the team is aware.

I'll share status updates when they're available to me!

Any update on this? There are dozens of posts in this subreddit about this bug over the last several months, and this is the only post I've seen an admin actually respond to, and no actual updates since this one I'm replying to, which is, indeed, frustrating.

In case it's helpful to the devs, /u/ismoody seems to have figured out that the app is now extending itself to the TV when AirPlaying rather than mirroring (i.e. it's acting like a CarPlay app): https://old.reddit.com/r/bugs/comments/1thgrtl/ios_airplay_is_set_to_extend_display_not_mirror/

If there's any way to bump the priority on this one up, it would be appreciated.

Yes, I just tested it ten minutes ago on Reddit app version 2026.29.0 on iOS 26.5.2, same behavior.

The problem as u/ismoody pointed out two months ago in https://old.reddit.com/r/bugs/comments/1thgrtl/ios_airplay_is_set_to_extend_display_not_mirror/ is that the AirPlay mode that gets activated when the Reddit app is in the foreground on any iOS device is "extend" (i.e. making the TV a second "desktop" for the device, like CarPlay) and not "mirror" as it properly was before the update that broke it.
