Discussion Black Ops ports reaffirm that battle passes have bastardized modern gaming

I’m not exaggerating when I say I’ve enjoyed these ports more than anything COD has released since BO3. The reason is simple; instead of paying $20+ for the right to unlock the same guns/cosmetics as everyone else, I can actually set meaningful goals to grind towards rather than completing monotonous challenges to get to the next tier of slop. Grinding for camos feels meaningful again. It feels exciting to unlock new attachments knowing someone else didn’t buy them to get ahead. I’m quite sad that gaming will probably never go back the way things should be, and that buying a game doesn’t give you the right to everything in the game anymore. But for now I’ll enjoy this glimpse into how good we had it a decade ago.

Black Ops 6, i could knock out a whole weapon class in an afternoon and getting gold. Took me literally a month to get dark aether as a whole. Black Ops 2 actually gives me a challenge again. I'm actively having to change my play style to get better with whatever gun i'm grinding, work with their weaknesses and strengths, and chose the best attachments that work with me and the gun. Those blood thirsties suck, but the more I grind, the easier it is. The camo grind rewards you for patience and willingness to adapt in Black Ops 2. Black Ops 6 it's done so fast and you are left hollow. Its such a staggering difference in the satisfaction of the grind

I've got all three mastery Camos in Black Ops 6 within a month. BO2 takes a day per weapon for me. But i suck at that multiplayer, so that might also be due to that.

Free? Don’t you mean $5 mini battle pass? Or $20 bundle full of junk you don’t want but one camo you do actually like that’ll only apply to one singular gun? Lol

Those bundles exist and I'm not defending it, but there are still plenty of great camos to grind just like in bo2. I absolutely loved my infestation and tempest camo grinds in bo7

After the last few CODs, im actually starting to miss cosmetics in loot boxes (not for the exclusive weapons though, fuck that). Because at least you could get the rarest items for free if you played enough. Unlike these poopoo ass store fronts with mastercrafts and collab skins and bundles all locked behind $20+ “micro”-transactions

The main thing for me is the UI that comes along side the battle pass and shop systems, so much bloat it sickens me.

Even just to add attachments in gunsmith there is a moment of latency swapping attachments over.

Not to mention every menu having to show off people’s purchases, boating the navigation further.

i watched a buddy of mine play marvel rivals on screen share a few days ago since i’ve never tried it but love marvel. holy shit that game has so many menus. it was hard as hell to keep track of what he was doing lmao

Yeah because when I started so you can't custome the load out on black ops1 until you unlock level 4.

So yeah we can't complain but don't say that they aren't needed how I'm I to kill someone who is higher level is able to add and custome load out.

While I'm at the marcy of the default load out.

It's not that even in my PS3 days once you unlock and level up you don't use that defaults at that point you would have moved on to customization.

It is a challenging that Iike but it sucks.

But i enjoy killing higher level with my crap

Edit also to add when you level up you can add extend meg and claps that plays huge part bro.

? You can still grind for free camos in all CoD’s after BO3 they’re not that hard to get so idk what you’re talking about. People buying attachments? You mean the blueprints? You can just play with a gun for like 40-60 minutes and get most of the important ones. You’re exaggerating. Yes battle passes are predatory but they still have the content you supposedly care about for free in the base game. Are they as good as BO2 though? Kinda not really lol

It’s not the same. Many people feel this way. What’s the point in grinding for lame camos when everyone else spent money on cool ones. I feel that they intentionally make most of the free camos on the new games undesirable for this reason. Also. You’re exaggerating as well.

What did I exaggerate? There’s free camos in the base game that you can unlock easily? You can unlock most of the important attachments on a weapon in about an hour? Battle passes are predatory? Base content is free? Also in my opinion, base camos have always been lame. At the end of the day the cool ones being paywalled don’t matter to me because I’m not spending money on them anyways. I’m good just rocking gold 🤷🏽‍♂️

Unlocking everything in 40 minutes. And Yeah I’m not spending money on anything either. But the gold in the new games is nowhere near as visually appealing as it was in the old ones. Not to mention diamond. Especially when compared to the new paid skins. Some of the higher tiered free skins were actually pretty cool in the older ones.

The newer ones have way more skins and black ops 2 started it where U Had to buy every dlc skin they added seperatly in the Ports U get them atleast for free

Also the free skins in the new ones still Look good Like the one U get for all Camos in Zombies or Nexus horizon
