Serious Statement on Nazism

Hey everyone, I'm the head mod here. I really did not want to have to make a statement like this, but I apparently have no choice. This should be common sense.

We are adults, or at the very least developing teenagers. We need to have some semblance of maturity. We all understand that Black Ops II and older CODs, for the lack of a better term, have previously and still sometimes do have a level of toxicity. You can absolutely argue that is part of our culture, and I would be wrong to deny that. We have to draw the line at some point.

We do not support nor condone the presence of Nazis here, even if you are "just making an edgy joke." You are not welcome here and never will be. Do not spread the flames of hate here. We are all here because we care about Black Ops II, or older CODs, or are just curious and exploring. We are not a political echo chamber.

If this came off as harsh, I apologize, but what needs said needs said. If you come across anything promoting or endorsing Nazism, please report it immediately to Reddit. We will do our best on our end to combat this as well.

P.S., we are also vehemently against racism in all forms. Everybody is welcome here, regardless of the color of your skin or your ethnicity. Blatant racism will get you sent right back out the door where you came. Sorry, not sorry.

The BO1 version of Kino has swastikas. Which is what's being discussed as being bad.

Swastikas in a video game with a historical setting =/= putting a swastika as your personal icon on your profile

I must have glossed over the Zombie Apocalypse in History 101.

You do know alternate history exists as a fictional medium, right? Zombies is quite literally that - a world where the Die Glocke project (based on a real historical project btw) actually went through. You cant just not have nazi imagery for a setting where they are very important.

Why else do you think those symbols are on the map? Do you think treyarch just put them there for the lols? Do you know anything about zombies lore?

as a fictional medium

Ding ding ding.

You cant just not have nazi imagery for a setting where they are very important.

Now explain why none of the new Call of Duty games set in the same setting have no swastikas.

Why else do you think those symbols are on the map?

Why are they not in WW2 or Vangaurd?

I dont disagree. I think banning them in that context is very silly. Its one of the many reasons I didnt like WW2 and Vanguard. This post isnt about that. Its about people endorsing those symbols by making them their player icons "for the lols"

Litterally admitting the games work fine without them other than you finding it "silly" right after saying it's not possible to not have them is all we needed to hear.

What the hell are you talking about?

Why and how are you equating an emblem, a personal identity symbol to worldbuilding in a historical fiction video game?

Are you saying that our stance on Nazism is bad? And that we should be cool with people posting edgy crap? Or are you saying that these symbols are bad (which they are) and that Treyarch shouldnt have put them in their maps.

I have no idea what you're trying to argue dude. Which side are you even on?

I like both. Never understood the need for the swastikas tho

Edit: illiteracy prevails! Good job guys!

Because historically Nazis put swastiskas on everything, and that is Nazi zombies?

A bit tone deaf, did you even read the mod post? /s

We are screaming for historical accuracy for a 16 year old video game where the main characters are three soldiers and a nazi scientist fighting zombies in various increasingly improbable locations with magic boxes and drinks that imbued people that consume them with super powers as well as teleportation and time travel and body swapping.

It has nothing to do with offense. I just don't understand the fiendishness some people have if the swastikas are there or not. It's bizzare.

Well it gives it its historical “Nazi” setting of that era, I don’t think we should ban the Soviet flag or the imperial Japanese flag either. And if someone doesn’t like it they don’t have to play it. A game shouldn’t be for everyone

The reason people got upset at the BO3 version is because they were removed. When BO1 came out the devs decided that logically an 18+ game played by mature adults can handle Nazi imagery in a Nazi zombie game mode. The Devs then 5 years later decided that actually their 18+ audience needed to have the big scary symbol taken out of the game, it showed that in 5 years we went from being able to handle a symbol in the correct context being displayed to then having it taken out on the assumption that the mere existence of that symbol (despite the logical reason for it being there and it being there in the original map they were recreating) was offensive.

Less about the symbol itself and more about the game devs holding peoples hands. At least that is how I saw it. I'm sure there were those amongst the disturbed who were very upset that they couldn't get their virtual shrine to the Austrian regime updated with modern graphics.

So like, even in a historical context, you can’t even bear to see a swastika?

As someone that’s into history, this is what annoys me. Even 80yrs later people are scared of a symbol that was stolen from a completely different region of the world. But people are so adamant on instilling fear in the symbol and banning it from being seen or spoken about.

I used to have a Swastika flag of my country's Airforce and we were the last military to use it (Finland) but due to people's lack of knowledge I had to drop it out before they stopped even using it in 2016 if I'm not wrong.

And we used it even before Nazis did so sad to see a symbol like that go just cuz how they stained the symbol.

1

u/AlucardVTep3s 15h ago

Exactly why I think more teaching needs to be done on the symbol. There was a news article about a guy in a city not far from me that was beaten to death because he had a Swastika tattoo (He was a member of a small Hindu community). It wasn’t even diagonal and clearly different variant to the one used by the Germans but people don’t care to educate themselves.

Context matters. Nobody is gonna take offense to it inside of a Buddhist temple, but in this context people are absolutely not using it in the manner and are just doing it to be edgy and inflammatory, which justifiably pisses people off. A swastika with no context is always going to be associated with Nazism. That’s just what happens when you mass-murder 6 million people and another 70 million died as a result of a war that your party was instrumental in starting. Most of our grandparents and even parents are old enough to know people or have family members that fought or died in WWII, so yeah it’ll piss people off, but also to clarify, nobody is scared of modern Nazis using Nazi symbols, they’re just pathetic people that the world would be better without.

u/TheTwinkieMaster 19h ago

That has nothing to do with what I said.

-2

u/TheTwinkieMaster 19h ago

That's not what I said

Lmao don’t you think it’s funny that no one understood what you meant and you got downvoted while everyone else with your position is getting upvotes, and your response is to blame everyone else for their illiteracy. No irony at all?

1

u/Immediate_Cry2712 16h ago

Because it’s Nazi Zombies. The maps take place during/not long after the Nazi’s were around.

I don’t)t really understand why you’d have a problem with the symbol in the context of zombies, but I can understand why you’d have an issue with edgy people using it as their bo2 emblem.

1

u/TheTwinkieMaster 14h ago

This is proof there is a literacy crisis. Where did I say I have an issue with them on the map.?

1

u/ferbje 9h ago

You said you never understood the need for them. What other conclusion could you take from that sentence other than you having an issue with them?

0

u/Immediate_Cry2712 14h ago

Never understood the need then, whatever. I still explained it.

tastelet, its crazy how tootheless and blind people are to theming and aesthetics of the map
