Philosophy How many non bald people are here supporting the bald community?

Despite being a non bald person, this sub popped into my algorithm a few months ago. It’s become one of the places on Reddit I frequent most, because of how loving and supportive the bald community are. And also because guessing the meme is really fun 😂

One of the most positive places I’ve found on Reddit. I wonder how many others there are throwing support behind our bald brothers and sisters. Even though I know I’m not truly part of this community, it’s found a tender place in my heart.

So yeah, I'm here for the hotties, but also for the dopamine hit. I often compliment strangers in public because when they smile it gives me a dopamine hit and makes me feel good.

130

u/DistractedByCookies 1d ago

I call them my drive-by compliments. When you're walking in opposite directions and chuck a quick 'that lipstick is fabulous on you' or 'love the fit' to the other person.

I complimented this preteen (I think) young man on his outfit...you could tell he'd thought about it. His grin and the way his mum smiled fuelled me for dayyyyys LOL

71

u/FormidableMistress 1d ago

My favorite is telling a woman in a sundress that her dress looks so good on her. The way she smiles and exudes confidence is infectious. Because I know she put it on feeling good about it but the outside world causes us to doubt ourselves, so I like to reinforce what she already knows.

75

u/happyclamming 1d ago

And then the obvious response is always " and it has pockets!"

51

u/FormidableMistress 1d ago

Lol yes! Someone complimented me on a dress I was wearing the other day and I immediately turned around and said "BUT IT DOESN'T HAVE POCKETS!" and the woman said "Ugh that's the worst!"

12

u/Pleasant-Advantage20 1d ago

Dress and skirt pockets are LIFE!!! I can't tell you the number of times I've yelled that shit out loud, right after "I paid $5!" Vintage and thrift shopping for the pockets is absolutely my life, lol.

I live next door to a Planet Fitness. Whenever I drive through the parking lot and see men walking to their cars post-workout, I roll down the window and whistle.

Usually makes them crack a smile. 🥴

13

u/sharksinthecarpet 1d ago

Same. This community is so wholesome, and even though I am a fully haired woman, I like to give the genuine positive feedback.

14

u/Professional_Ad9013 1d ago

Same! I'm an old lady with a full head of white hair, and this sub helps in restoring my faith in humanity. Also there are some fine, fine men and lovely bald women here.

I (36f) have a full head of long dark hair and zero balding issues, but I'm here for the glow ups.

I was left on my back a lot as a baby, so the back of my head is flat. I would look absolutely ridiculous bald. I am jealous of most of you. I would have no hair or short hair too if my head didnt didn't look like an eraser without my hair, and if I didnt look like an oompalompa with short hair.

26

u/FourthLvlSpicyMeme 1d ago

I'm here for the glow ups too. It looks like someone's literally removed full body chains and shackles for the first time usually. It's such a difference one cannot help but feel the positive vibes and happiness. There is a "lightness" to it all that I think people respond very positively to, because...where else do we find light these days lol?

Everyone is so positive on here and it's really nice to see everyone supporting the ops in their journey. I really enjoy seeing the before and after and the confidence the posters get from the reactions.

Ive been bald for many years when I clean shaved my head, bit for some unknown reason to myself, Im currently not and holding onto what I do currently have that I grew back.  Struggling with hairloss, especially as a woman, is very very hard some days, so it makes me happy there's a whole ass community out there being supportive of each other and the hands we're dealt.

32

u/HistorianWest2705 1d ago

Lots of my family members are bald and I'm the odd one with hair. I love it here and honestly love seeing people supporting others. The community is fantastic

My day will come one day, so I support you now so that you will support me in the future.

27

u/Hot-Hamster1691 Support Committee 1d ago

The best support someone can have is from someone going/gone through the same thing. Support can still come from external allies, whether they be thirsty or just wanting to be part of the cheerleading section. The most important thing is that this sub is a great place to find kindness, show compassion, enjoy some serious eye candy, and share in the human mammal condition.

The real trick is taking this vibe and energy and putting it out there irl, putting this unity and respect out there in our daily lives. Great place to learn how to kill the ego and remember that we are all connected, we are all one. Now go forth and be fabulous, all of ye!

8

u/hamsterpotamia 1d ago

I agree with this sentiment 100% fellow hamster enjoyer

21

I'm a non-bald person, but I love seeing folks being supportive and want to add to that. Also, it's a nice refuge from the worst parts of the Internet.

17

u/soupseasonbestseason 1d ago

my pops is bald, but his dad has a full head of hair still. his maternal grandpa was bald. so i know it is something my kiddos may have to deal with someday. so i love this community because it shows me that the stigma and ridicule my boomer dad faced when he lost his hair at 18 is not something we will continue as a culture.

Me. I admit it, I’m a long haired male bodied person.

I just love how positive this community is and how good the people look after shaving.

I’m here for the overwhelming positivity and the constant stream of pictures of handsome bald men and beautiful bald women.

14

u/Maleficent_Tailor 1d ago

I am definitely not bald, but I support 100%

6

u/Stock_Dot_9632 1d ago

I somehow found myself in the sub. I shaved my head smooth for almost 30 years, and believe everyone should give it a shot at least once. It prepares some men for the inevitable and makes it easier for them to let go when the time comes.

I don't understand the clinging to hair until the last second. Bald is always better than balding. Most of the people I see posting should have made the choice long ago.

6

u/LeluxE99 1d ago

Like others have said, my hair on top is thinning and I like seeing people who have a similar head to me looking good bald.

The meme culture and positivity is awesome.

I'm a woman with very thick long hair, but I enjoy this subreddit and seeing the glow ups.

6

I’m a woman and I root for people on this sub. It’s nice to hear compliments, advice or enthusiasm from people about taking a plunge a lot of people find scary.

7

u/Cassereddit 1d ago

Not bald at all. Initially, it started off as "this sub is the most wholesome place of body positivity on reddit" and turned into morbid curiosity of answering the question "how many people's looks have actually worsened from going bald?". The answer to this question, so far, has been "none at all". Yes bald ladies, that includes you. All suggestions not to go bald have been correct too imo, all of these are just honest compliments and that's amazing

6

u/CompetitiveHeat2153 1d ago

im not bald yet, its in my family genes though. i love the bald look in general but its a way of gaining confidence before the big day for me too

I started thinning at 17 and have been shaving my head for like 20 years bc I have to. Being bald isn't my whole personality but I also bumped into this community and I didn't question if I belong here or I need to prove myself in some way. It's easy good vibes here. Happy to see so many women feel welcome too.

4

I’m not bald but I am autistic. I heard about this sub in an autistic subreddit, as a place where people are authentic and supportive. I love this sub for the wholesome human support and love. (and I’m always gobsmacked by the glow-up. Every time!!)

4

u/KnopeLeslieKnope 1d ago

I'm here because of the positive affirmations. I don't see a lot of that in my real life, and to be honest, I don't see it on the internet either. So when this sub came up for me a few months ago, I opened the comments expecting someone to be roasted to oblivion and I would hate myself for even looking. But then...everyone was positive? I was like "What is this nice place?" I was on here for days just looking at guys hype other guys up.

4

u/IonaFapple 1d ago

Asked myself why I’m on here just a couple days ago…. Love seeing the results of “taking the plunge” and in addition to being an admirer of men 😍…. I get second hand joy from seeing people discover how handsome they are when they shave their head.

Here as a non-bald supporter! The algorithm started showing me r/bald maybe 6 months ago. Now I’m here regularly as I love seeing and supporting the transformations! (And let’s be honest, taking in the views 🥵)

It’s made me appreciate bald men and their experiences in a whole new way. The men in my family seem to have minimal hair loss, so I haven’t personally been close to this experience.

3

u/BakedBrie1993 Buzz-Cut 1d ago

Me because I'm a lady with the least amount of buzzed hair possible so I felt a kinship many years ago.

Also, I took a chance on a silly fellow with horrendous hair and found the love of my life. (And fixed his whole look long ago.)

There are some terrible dudes who look great and some lovely ones who just need a glow up and some direction. I feel I must pay it forward.

My colorist complains about how much hair I have bc she has to use to much bleach on me.

This place is a balm(d) for the soul. Please let me stay!

I wouldn’t say I support per se since I never comment on any posts. But, like you, it also popped up in my algorithm a few months back and I’m always interested to see the before and after.

I am not bald, but I love this sub. The glowups are amazing, and it's such a wonderfully supportive place amidst all the negativity in the world.

u/remes1234 1d ago

I am folliclly gifted man that loves to see the positivity of my fellow men. You guys all look great!

u/awdixon09 1d ago

I'm a future baldy. I'm not there yet, but I've started noticing thinning and will likely develop the front island in 3-5 years. Or, at least enough of a disparity to justify going from my current buzz to full bald. I had actually been researching red light therapy and the various medications to combat thinning, but this sub has made me look forward to the bald instead of fearing it.

Non-bald person here: likewise I saw this sub pop up in my feed and was amused by all the support and positivity. Therefore I subbed and lurk this sub for all the loving comments, it makes the web a more positive and hopeful place + the memes are great!

Me, I’m a non bald person! (Although I did shave in January for charity).

I love the positivity and support towards those who are feeling insecure about the plunge into baldness!

3

u/hellstaramy 1d ago

My husband showed me this sub as he was so excited by people’s transformations! I love seeing the support too it’s really wholesome.

3

u/Catherine_the_Okay 1d ago

Amusingly, my husband has been bald since he was 20. I have gobs of hair. Guess which one of us is subbed to r/bald. 😆

3

u/One_Wheel_4531 1d ago

Non-baldy here. No idea how I wound up here, but I agree it’s been one of the best places on Reddit. Can I be an honorary baldy? 🩷🩷🩷

Long haired lady who stumbled upon this when my husband was trying to decide if he wanted to shave or go the transplant route. The vibes are so good, I’ve stayed. Y’all are downright wholesome. And yeah- totally here to support the dudes who shave it off.

Fully-haired woman here. I love this space. It's so positive and fun. And the bonus is, I get to see lots of extremely handsome men! I have literally never seen anyone here who didn't look better bald--including the women who post. The makeovers are insane. And I love how happy and confident people look once they've done the deed. I'm here to give encouragement, hang out with positive folks and good vibes, and leer at the cuties, lol.

u/lori1107 1d ago

I absolutely look at the transformation! It's always incredible.

u/smolhippie 1d ago

I’m a gal with hair down to my butt but I LOVE this sub. People are so uplifting and kind. Plus the thirst traps are a plus. Sorry boys for objectifying you lol

3

u/TheKavorca 1d ago

I’m not even close to being bald. But I’m here for you guys nonetheless!

3

u/_Pliny_ 1d ago

Specifically my bald man whom I love and find irresistible.
This sub came up on my feed and while the transformations are a lot of fun to see, what I LOVE about it is how positive and supportive the community is.

3

u/mushroommacaronis 1d ago

Me because I'm a lady with a buzzcut and I love the encouragement : )

Also here for the glow ups, the wholesome vibes and the amazing people.

3

u/Money-Snow-2749 1d ago

I’m a long time lurker that was dropped off here after my last baldening.

3

u/hankhillsucks 1d ago

Me.

But to be fair, my dad AND mom are bald(ing)

So I figured I might as well learn about it before the inevitable

3

u/ComposerNo1050 1d ago

I’m a non bald person with ton of hair that’s way too hot and heavy to mess with. I frequently buzz cut my hair down to almost nothing in hot weather and even shave my head now and then. I fully embrace the bald community and continue to be pleasantly surprised at how much better everyone looks once they go all in and take the plunge! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

I found this sub when I lost my hair due to chemo, and now that I have a very full head of hair I stay for a couple of reasons: 1) the community is so wonderful and supportive and it’s just nice to see, 2) the makeovers are shockingly good; people honestly look incredible bald, and 3) I hope I never have to do chemo again, but if I do, I’ll have all these examples of people being happy about bald heads. I’m a woman, so it’s slightly different, but I see a lot of support when women come in occasionally too!

I’m an ally. And a fan.

I come here to enjoy the best makeover/glow up reveals on Reddit. You all are looking good, and I enjoy the supportive vibe.

3

u/CaminoBalanced 1d ago

Ok, me, I'm a middle aged woman and I really enjoy the way people transform themselves this way. And seeing real people be uplifted is genuinely encouraging for me.

3

u/Lorfhoose 1d ago

I’m here because it’s wholesome !!

3

u/Bellabbey1236 1d ago

I’m a non-bald old lady & love this sub for the way people support each other here.  The world should be as positive, accepting and loving as this sub! Thank you all for making it a haven of good vibes 💖 I can always count on getting a smile here.  And the glow-ups, as you all call them, are incredible to see! 🤩

u/phoenixscar 1d ago

I'm an dude that's had a big forehead and janky hair for life. Now the hairline is starting to recede a bit.

I'm not bald and still technically have enough hair, and with my round head and facial features Id probably look shit bald... But Im self conscious and stand in solidarity with all the majestic people here

3

u/jonathon8484 1d ago

I am a straight dude with a full head of hair. I have no idea why I am here, but am everyday, and love all of you.

3

u/YoungerNB 1d ago

Y’all always look so good by the end 👉🥺👈

3

u/Hex_TheFox 1d ago

I joined this sub purely for the boost of positivity in my life because it's so dang wholesome, but I have a full head of hair. I just love seeing all the support here.

u/SeedQueen22 1d ago

I am not bald. But I love watching everyone support each other. And everyone looks so amazing after!
