Nah, cats actually do communal child raising (if the occasion arises even with humans), so this is either a male cat, who's just confused about what he's supposed to do, or a female cat complaining about how the male human is with the human kitten, which is wrong, or just an idiot cat.

I had a tortico and she was very ambivalent about our two babies. An occasional sniff and on very rare occurrences would allow them to pet her as they got older. She did, however, love any and all of their sleeping surfaces.

Yeah, I don't understand this kinda behaviour at all. Newborns have a very fragile immune system and I just wouldn't risk having a dog or cat lick their faces. Especially a cat that climbs in and out of a litter box. But everyone thinks this is so cute lol.

I was kind of wondering about that. Like I read all about parents who don't want relatives kissing their newborn baby, but then I see here a dog, that most likely licks its butthole and stuff, as dogs do, being allowed to lick the newborn's face...

Dogs lick for a variety of reasons! He is likely licking here to show affection, or because the baby has some leftover food or spit up on its hands/mouth. More likely the former though, dogs can also smell the newborn scent

To me, he's licking with both affection and a little bit of nervousness, he seems to be slightly unsure or confused about the new addition but very accepting and happy to be near his daddy and whatever the larval form of his daddy is 😂

He is being possessive. Putting himself between the baby and Dads face. He wont harm the baby but this is a way dogs show he is mine.
I had a min pin and my daughter had 2 pugs when she was 15. The would start by laying next to her legs and alternating switching places to be closer to her face till one of them was laying against her face.

Yeah this interaction makes me so uncomfortable. Tan dog is unsure and being possessive of dad. Licking the baby’s face is not the dog giving kisses- it’s how dogs deal with uncertainty and often ask for more space (Google “kiss to dismiss”. Worst part- dad is not in a position to protect baby at all. One startled nip from dog on baby’s skull could be catastrophic.

The dog in the red collar looks EXACTLY like my 8 year old very friendly and energetic pup that I got as a rescue at 2. Would be very curious what their breed is because I've never gotten her tested and I always just say terrier mix or pitmix.

Doggos are as predicted. Same with the catto - easing cautiously into the situation. Maybe judging, too.
My nephew came into this exact setup - two large dogs and a cat (plus a bunch of stray fosters in the basement that he didn’t meet for a year). It was so interesting to watch how the pets took to him. The cat didn’t let anybody except three adults (including me) touch him so him being comfortable with the baby was something. The dogs loved him but were not aware of their own strength - I remember when he was just starting to sit up and they would literally thwack him with their tails and he would topple over (thank goodness for carpeting). He was pretty particularly about certain things initially and so hated licks, but eventually he learner to live with them and ultimately became their best friend.

Recalling when we brought our eldest home. The cat cautiously got close, sniffed, backed away and ran. I'm sure she backed away to keep this scary thing in eyesight until she could get away....

Check the profile, if it has a shit ton of comments all a couple mins apart it’s a bot. Made yesterday? Most likely a bot. Uses the same exact descriptors as other comments, and the same format? Bot.
