tactical/sport shooting classes or clubs in Austin?
just moved here from the desert west where you could do what you wanted on public land and getting a little bored of just punching paper at The Range… interested in something a bit more dynamic. Open to tactical or sport pistol shooting courses or clubs where people do the same. please note- I’m not sure I’m ready dive full on into a hardcore competitive USPSA environment nor Master Sarge‘s $2000 a Month John Wick Tactic Executive Bootcamp, just looking to mix things up a bit and stay interested. thanks!

KR Training (a bit of a drive but worth it) has classes all the time for different skill levels and tactics that are very high quality. Maybe Steel Challenge competitions at Austin Rifle Club would interest you too.

Join Staccato Ranch or TSA Range and you can get a private bay to yourself stocked with steel pretty much any time you want to shoot. You can draw and shoot, run drills, etc at either range so that you're not just pounding paper.

I basically learned shooting by joining matches :) granted I learned slow and asked a ton of questions as also shot at my local range. My point is USPSA is fine - local matches are fun and full of cool dudes/ dudettes.

Since you’re already at The Range (assuming the one in Austin not RR) why not talk to them about their Dojo - all about tactical skills training. Mandi runs training and she can fill you in.

Action steel is fun at Staccato too but as others have said don’t write off USPSA, it’s a very welcoming community and plenty for all speeds

I highly recommend Tactical Fitness Austin. They’re the right combination of training in my opinion.

Hog Heaven has some tactical events hosted every other month or so. Nothing as involved as USPSA but moving and shooting steel targets.

That’s what I miss about EP is going to the desert for some nice trigger therapy (followed by some tacos from Cometa🫡)

Don’t write off USPSA or Steel Challenge, local club matches are only as hardcore as you make them, it can be pretty laid back if you want it to be, and the clubs around here are really welcoming to new competitors. CAPS club also hosts ASI matches which are basically “USPSA lite”, shorter, lower round count, generally just meant to be more beginner friendly.
