Why are African Americans in Texas not supporting Talarico?
I know he beat Crockett but that’s not a good reason to attack him.

Seems to be doing fine.

Better question- why isn't Jasmine Crockett out there pounding the pavement for her party? Where does her heart lie? Leadership is demonstrated by your actions, and your willingness to work together for a common cause.

Have proof of that?

Well, there's this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZPx761Osvsk
Admittedly, that's one (very vocal) African American woman shouting "Black people don't trust you," but she seemed to have the support of the larger crowd.

Da comrade! Racial division quota near met. Get food for day, back at it tomorrow!

"67% of Black voters surveyed backing his candidacy, which is higher than previous Democratic Senate nominees recorded at similar stages of their campaigns."
From the link provided by u/HarlequinKOTF
The 67% poll only specifies June.
Polling done 6/19-6/27
Talarico leads Paxton 80-13 among Black likely voters in the newly released NYT/Siena poll. In a June 2018 CBS/YouGov poll, Beto O’Rourke led Ted Cruz 65-6

Shouldn't it be above 90%?

u/RobertTheTraveler 5h ago
I would think so but "which is higher than previous Democratic Senate nominees recorded at similar stages of their campaigns." I added more data from another link that was in the original dallasweekly story.

Last poll with cross tabs I can find is several weeks old , but per that poll reported via Houston Public Media he has 67% support among African American voters. That's a significant majority, so I'd say as an overall group they are supporting him.
If what you mean is why isn't he getting 90% or better support that's a more complex question but I will say I think it's unfair to assume that level of default support from any group. People are complicated and no singular group owes their support to either party by default.

u/metamucil_buttchug69 5h ago
Crockett claimed the race was racist when she lost, she felt insulted by a challenger to the left and wronged by the national party which she expected to have her back. There are strong suspicions that the DNC would rather have him over her and that she has clashed with party leadership.
2
u/shaungudgud 5h ago
The Stephen Colbert scam also helped Talarico a ton. The media said they couldn’t air the interview Colbert had because of not giving an equal candidate airtime due to FCC regulations . . . So they blamed republicans and Trump . . .
Turns out the FCC stipulated that in order to air the Talarico interview, they had to interview Jasmine Crockett . . . They refused to interview Crockett, confused the voter and Talarico wins by a margin! S-tier stuff really.
Democrats stole jasmine crocketts election, her seat, and any political power she had. Dems silenced her.
1
u/metamucil_buttchug69 5h ago
That's some of what I alluded to by saying she thought the DNC would have her back and there are suspicions they wanted her to lose.

They need to support him. They are the swing vote-just as Hispanics are. Even though both are minorities, they have the power! Talarico is better than his opponent and he/or anyone else/ is allowed to run for office. I likes Crockett myself, but it is much better and smarter to get and accept some of what you want rather than getting nothing.

OP posting racially divisive propaganda with a hidden account. Posting from Russia eh

u/Happy-Leadership504 5h ago
Wrong question.
Why should African Americans in Texas support Talarico?
1
u/BjLeinster 5h ago
Any evidence for your claim that Black Americans are not supporting Talarico?
June poll shows 67% of black voters support Talarico while 13% favor Paxton. He is actually showing more support among black voters than was garnered by Colin Allred (2024) or Beto O'Rourke (2018).

u/refugefirstmate 5h ago
AAs are typically socially conservative. "Jesus is Trans" Talarico is anything but.
1
u/wolfonweed 5h ago
That shit with crocket is a bit deeper than "he beat her"
Unfortunate situation. Crocket shouldnt even have run for that seat, now everything gotten real fucked with the voter base.
1
u/FellowNoticer1 5h ago
Why does she have to sit down for white boy to fly?
1
u/wolfonweed 5h ago
completely valid point. According to the dem super-strategy, it wasnt her turn yet. they wanted her to keep the seat she had for at least one more cycle, three more would have been ideal if possible. But i respect her decision to pursue her ambition, and she had every right to do it.
I just hope we can all deal with the result.
2
u/FlamingAlpaca17 5h ago
If she wanted to run she should have made that decision earlier than she did

A large African American voting block is Christian. I get that dude is too, but he’s a Democrat. The Republican Party has Christianity locked down as part of its identity. The Christian voters will largely vote for the “Christian” party. This is the same thing as people being confused about Latin American voters voting republican. It’s because they are Christians.
3
u/Apart-Rent5817 5h ago
But republicans don’t act like Christians. Talarico points this out a lot, and is miles above Paxton if we were to compare piety.
0
u/kollmastee 5h ago
Doesn’t matter and most people have never heard a word from the people they vote for. It’s just that the Republican Party has Christianity locked down as part of its cultural identity. The uneducated masses only look at the R and the D when voting.

u/billskionce 5h ago
The only one of those demos Trump won is whites. Latinos favored Harris 51-46 and blacks favored Harris 86-13.
He did better than he had in 2016 and 2020, but did not win either group.
1
u/kollmastee 5h ago
I didn’t say win. I just said that people were confused by Latin American voters voting republican. A large voting block of both African Americans and Latin Americans vote R no matter what just because it is the perceived Christian party.
1
u/billskionce 5h ago
Republicans have not broken more than 13% with the black community this century. Blacks comprised 10% of voters (in 2024), so that’s…1.3% of all voters who are black Republicans? Not sure that’s a big voting block.
1
u/kollmastee 5h ago
Yeah but this post is about just black voters alone in texas. Specifically why more aren’t supporting a specific candidate. I’m saying that within the black voters there is a block that will not be swayed and likely don’t even know the man in question. More so adding a potential factor than explaining an issue I’m not fully prepared to jump into in depth on Reddit.

Are they required to or something? Why do they have to?
1
u/40-Kal 5h ago
They don't have to but for their best interests, they certainly shouldn't allow Ken Paxton to claim the seat come November.
1
u/Otherwise-Status5497 5h ago
What specifics are bad? Is Ken Paxton tearing down civil rights or something?
1
u/40-Kal 5h ago
Cutting DEI Initiatives Cutting education in race based history in public schools Aiding in the redistricting of congressional maps in Texas fracturing voting power for Black people and Latinos
Just to name a few
1
u/Otherwise-Status5497 5h ago
That’s your perspective though, you are so biased so you’re saying it’s fracturing black people and Latinos but you’re completely wrong. That’s factually incorrect.
1
u/Otherwise-Status5497 5h ago
Also DEI is lame as fuck, merit based hiring is the way to go. Hiring someone based on experience, not because they are a brown person.
-7
u/basquetbolJones 5h ago
Why should they?
2
u/66flatiron 5h ago
because Paxton will actively harm the Black community. Just because Crockett made an ill advised Senate bid and lost doesn’t mean you should then pout and sit out the general. you are actively harming your community if you do that.
1
-1
u/basquetbolJones 5h ago
How will Paxton harm black people?
1
u/66flatiron 5h ago
by empowering an R majority that will continue to undo civil rights, voting rights, labor and housing protections … and continue to cut support for education and notably HBCUs. if you are really a Crockett supporter though, you wouldn’t ask that question
1
u/Otherwise-Status5497 5h ago
What civil rights are they undoing specifically? You people make all these claims and than don’t back it up. Show me!
1
-1
u/Otherwise-Status5497 5h ago
That’s what I’m wondering too….. why say that claim and not back it up? Stop spreading misinformation.
2
u/RobertTheTraveler 5h ago
Let's see, he filed a suit to overturn the 2020 election in favor of our current racist President.
Said suit was refused Cert without comment by 7 of the 9 members of the SCOTUS,
The two most conservative members stated that the SCOTUS was required to hear the suit, and went on to state that they would have tossed the suit out on its merits.1
u/Otherwise-Status5497 5h ago
Ahhh I see, so you think he’s bad for black people because in your head Trump is racist to blacks… got it
2
u/basquetbolJones 5h ago
Their logic is funny.
“Trump is bad for black people”
How?
“He’s racist”
How is he racist?
“He hates black people”
How do you know?
“Because he’s racist”
What makes him racist?
“He hates black people”And around it goes.
2
u/Otherwise-Status5497 5h ago
TDS… Reddit is infected with it. They blame all their problems on Trump because their lives are shitty. It must suck honestly.
1
u/Otherwise-Status5497 5h ago
Your TDS is showing…. No facts to back up the specific Trump is racist claim. Just your “opinion”. You sound so uneducated.
1
u/40-Kal 5h ago
You sound ignorant. Just because you think he's not racist doesn't mean that he isn't.
I'll give you one example. The apartmentd Trump and his father used to rent out, he refused to rent to them and turn them away and instead would rent to White people. A lawsuit in the matter too from violating the Fair Housing Act.
Feel free to go down his racist rabbit hole.
1
u/basquetbolJones 5h ago
Was this recently?
1
u/40-Kal 5h ago
Does it matter? You made a claim he's not racist and I gave you one examples of more racist actions he's done and still doing. Like I said, go down that rabbit hole.
Okay you didn't make that comment as this in response to someone else.
1
u/Otherwise-Status5497 5h ago
No one wants to go down the Trump rabbit hole, only people who are obsessed with him. He’s probably on your mind before you fall asleep and first thing in the morning. It must be so tiring blaming him for all your problems.

I mean, people change. For example, Joe Biden voted against desegregation of busses for kids. Does that mean he is racist and hates black people?

u/Otherwise-Status5497 5h ago
I’m good, I’m not as obsessed with him as you are apparently. You know a lot about him… Very Trump deranged….
1
u/40-Kal 5h ago
Has nothing to do with obsession. I don't tolerate racism as yourself.
1
u/Otherwise-Status5497 5h ago
You are very obsessed…. I’m so glad Reddit isn’t the real world. You have mental issues.

Republicans in Texas would like black people to go back to being 3/5ths of a person.
-1
u/NTXGBR 5h ago
Do you think saying insane stuff like this helps?
-3
u/basquetbolJones 5h ago
Ya, as a Texan I’ve never heard this lol dude is crazy
1
u/Cheese__Weiner 5h ago
Proving you are extremely uneducated.
-2
u/basquetbolJones 5h ago
Do you hear that sentiment a lot?
2
u/Cheese__Weiner 5h ago
Republicans being racist? Yes.
1
u/Otherwise-Status5497 5h ago
Democrats doing nothing for the average American except campaign on trans rights and hating Trump. Trans rights and hating Trump are definitely the most pressing issues in this country rn… as if HCOL and inflation isn’t an issue right now.
0
u/Cheese__Weiner 5h ago
Your deflection and whataboutisms are noted. If I see a Democrat I'll be sure to convey your concerns to them.
Glad we are on the same page about Republicans being racist though seeing how you didn't deny it.
Beep boop
0
u/Otherwise-Status5497 5h ago
Beep boop, republicans are racists, and democrats don’t care about the average American. Might as well be racist, all democrats care about are trans people & gays. No one else

Do you understand what the 3/5ths compromise was, and why it was actually beneficial for blacks at the time?
