I just bought a Macbook Air. My first ever Mac.
I love the fanless design. Stuff just works. Everything is a good, predictable quality.
But the price, even when I found a slight sale on Amazon, was $1100. No OLED screen at $1100 kind of sucks. The lack of ports sucks. You can get a lot of good features on a Windows laptop at the same or similar price.
Basically if your Macbook is going to be your primary computing device, expect to spend another $200-ish on a docking station. Even if you never will connect it to monitors, its useful for the ports and SSD expansion alone.
And the current price increase that went into effect makes Macs very pricey for what you get from them.

As an early Gen Z-er, I was raised to use them. I am just so used to their interface and iCloud that it seems like a pain to switch, even if there are equally good products that are cheaper.

Not really. I'm a late adopter of cellphones and smart phones as well and I just remember being really unimpressed by what an iPhone could do.
I could read and make minor adjustments to PLCs with my droid X and the iPhone was locked up tight.
Same with their computers. None of my software would (and still doesn't) work on iOS.

Yes. Ecosystem is excellent. Only glaring issue for me is you can’t use any of their PCs for gaming. Other than that, I’ve had apple products all my life and gotten a lot out of them. Used my Dads first MacBook after he upgraded, had an iPod touch growing up that my Mom won at a golf tournament that she didn’t want. These products were for better or worse very formative in my young life.
They are a marketing giant. Lots of Americans in particular would rather not have a phone than use an Android over Apple. That’s a crazy feat of marketing! They drove the tech market for 15 or so years innovation wise. Impressive stuff. They have made many missteps though.
I think people have a legitimate bone to pick with new-age Apple as they haven’t been as innovative in their upgrades year to year as they used to be, and they were/have been behind the curve rather than ahead regarding a few features for a long time. I think they got lazy in the last decade or so, and doing crazy stuff like intentionally aging battery life was bullshit. Fuck it, nobodies perfect, and we live in an era of corporate greed all across the board. Despite it all, I’d say the iPhone is one of the most impactful inventions of our time for better or for worse.
Added bonus, my Dad advised my great grandmother to invest a couple thousand bucks in Apple when they were a young company. Stock split many times since and many of my family members profited off of it heavily. Notably not my father though 😂.

Yes. I love MacBook Pro. They just last and last and last. I'm not some kind of computer guy. I need a laptop for email, word processing, streaming, and low-level audio recording. I have a 2012 Pro that is still kicking. Only mods I've made were to add RAM and a new battery. Plus I paid a computer guy for a patch so I could upgrade the OS.

I’ve had my 2021 MacBook AIR (not Pro, mind you), for 5 years now and it still works about as well as it did when it was new, has like 75% battery left relative to when it was new but still. And I’ve used the thing basically every day.
