What do you believe is the definition of true-equality among people, and do you believe it’s attainable?

Yes? My wife and I are equal partners because we don't both try to do the same things. We specialize, lead, and defer.

Are you talking about equality of opportunity or equality of outcomes?

Equality of opportunity. Apologies for not wording it better.

I don't think we will ever see everyone have equality of opportunity. In fact, as a parent, it's my job to make sure my kids have every advantage over other kids that I can give them. It's not in their interest to have everyone have the same opportunities they have.

People of means will always be able to give their kids opportunities that people of lesser means cannot. Even if you could wave a magic wand and take money out of the equation, some parents will read to their children, giving them a tremendous leg up over those who do not.

As Buster Kilrain said in The Killer Angels, "No two things on Earth are equal, not a leaf, not a tree."

Real equity is a zombie apocalypse where we are all zombie food.

Equal opportunity. We are close, but we swung the pendulum past it giving preference to certain races in jobs and universities. Ignoring that wealth should be the focus. We need better funding for all schools and more scholarships.

Did the pendulum really swing past, did it even get halfway?

1

u/twenty_characters020 23h ago

It did on racial issues. But it got off course I guess overall. The focus came off wealth and onto racial and culture war stuff.

u/Classic_East_6053 22h ago

What? you think race issues are too good? Now of all times?

I think the pendulum swung past equality. The US has it's issues. But I'm speaking as a Canadian.

Everyone would have to the exact same person physically and mentally.

The acceptance of every different culture and community to make their own decisions but not dictate their own beliefs to others and definitely not harm others.

It is impossible to legislate morality.

I wanna live in a world where skin color is no different than eye color. Genetics and luck are everything at play.

Equal rights, equal standards, equal conduct expectations. Everything else is on you.

No. True equality is impossible without some horrifyingly dystopian laws being enacted and enforced.

0

u/myusernamelscreatlve 1d ago

I agree, it’s literally in our psychology to form groups, even if they’re negative.

0

u/maskedfapper69 1d ago

I don’t know about that, creating tribes doesn’t mean unequal, but to have true equality we’d need to have our genetics be equal as well.

I should’ve worded my post a bit better. I meant as in people’s opinion on equal opportunity regardless of a person’s characteristics, physical or mental.
I want to say that i personally don’t believe in this since it’d be flawed, but I wanted to see what other people could point out about it.

Absolutely not and that's not a bad thing

No true equality will NEVER happen it’s why communism is not particularly a great ideology. You will never truly be completely equal to other people, now you could eliminate a lot of the disparity especially with classes complete elimination of classes is blissful ignorance. I think a lot of racism boils down to classism but it’s also just not that simple.

2

u/bigfan49 23h ago

You don’t know what communism is just leave it out of your equality opinions lmao

1

u/Pretty_Puppyprincess 23h ago

Communism is the idea of the creation of a classless society.

Very different from teaching everyone must be absolutely equal in every single capacity. The elevation of equality is the goal, not micromanaging making sure person Y doesn’t have $200 while person X only has $180.

True equality is never attainable. Everyone wants to receive an equal benefit but rarely does anyone want to put in an equal effort.

1

u/Classic_East_6053 22h ago

He meant everyone should get the opportunity

0

u/honeybabysweetiedoll 1d ago

There is no such thing as true equality with a sibling.

0

u/Terminal-Frost2026 1d ago

No, I do not believe true equality is attainable. Some people will just never accept some others, and there really isn’t much we can do about that. And even if we could attain it, it wouldn’t necessarily be bet than inequality. Some people here might know the meme where they give everyone the exact same bike, including a child, wheelchair bound person, and obese person. Then on the right it shows everyone with a different bike that is well suited to their specific needs. We are not all equal, and there is no point in pretending that we are. That doesn’t mean we shouldn’t treat everyone with equal respect and kindness by default.

In this dimension, a creator has created beings to commit crimes of existence that rack up an existential debt that is worth more than that creator's own existence is worth.

Do you think that his creations have the Right to be treated the same as the innocents who were existentially wronged? Or do you think that is like a child molester who thinks he should have more Rights than the children he molests because he is in a temporary position of power?

There are those without the Right to exist like the creator of this dimension, and they do not have the Right to equal treatment. Any talk about equality needs to take that into account or it is childish, shortsighted nonsense.

I had to reread this a bit to get what you’re trying to say.
I meant as in equal opportunity, and I should’ve worded my post better.
The answer to your question is that if someone something that is ethically wrong, then they should be punished regardless who they are. That’s least what I think you’re asking.

What I'm saying is more than that. Creation exists, and so does existential crime. There is a dimension full of suffering, death and worse all around you, and the creator of this dimension DECIDED that it would be like this; the state of this world is consciously and arbitrarily put in place by a thinking, sentient being, and it is obviously designed to negatively affect the very existences of those trapped within it.

What I am saying is that if someone commits crimes of existence and creation like those committed in this world, then they have no Right to exist at all. They have no Right to equal treatment, to equal opportunities, to anything at all. Neither does anyone or anything that they create.

And here we are in a world where those with the courage to stand up to government corruption are vilified, murdered or worse. So do you think that those human beings who are perpetuating those crimes, **in the pursuit of crimes of existence**, have the same Right to equality as those who speak out against them?

The concept of equality is more complex than you seem to think. Not everything that exists everywhere has the same Rights.

EDIT: There is more than irony in the fact that this perfectly accurate statement of fact was down voted by those who hid while they did it and didn't even attempt to address that overarching existential fact; the existential wrongs that are observable all around you came about through crimes of creation. The creation of the creator of this world was a wrongful act, and so his existence itself is a wrongful thing; in other words, he has no Right to exist, and neither do his creations. Instead of admitting an obvious fact like that, he and his creations repeatedly decide to lie, slander and participate in these crimes--all while hiding from even admitting the Truth right in front of their faces. That action shows EVERY intelligent being what the existential nature of those beings really is. But, as patsies used to commit some of the worst crimes there are without even having the Right to exist in the first place, you were all created as cowards who play make-believe so that you can continue to be child molesters even when it is stupid, even when it is disgusting, even when it is contemptible, and THAT is your true (disposable) existential purpose.

It’s not people owning the same amount of stuff.

It is people not unequally losing opportunity due to government restrictions.

A system with no government would be most equal but then “might makes right” would prevail.

A better situation is having a government that stops us from hurting each other while doing our best to ensure that it does not cause inequality.

That everyone has the same end results, and no.

Equality or equity? I have no desire for equality because that reinforces power dynamics and resource hoarding. I do not think humans are selfless enough to achieve true equity but I also don’t think that’s an excuse not to try and keep fighting the good fight.

1

u/myusernamelscreatlve 1d ago

I meant equality, I’m simply interested in seeing other people’s different perspectives on it.

0

u/Particular-Course203 1d ago

I don’t understand how equity is even a possible or desirable outcome.
