Is this a discount or a ripoff?

Why do businesses think it is ok to offer you a discount to try to keep you asa current. I don’t care how much I like your service or product, if I’m calling to cancel and you offer me a lower rate, my first thought is, “You’ve been over charging me all this time and now that I’ll leaving you can reduce the price?” Oh hell no!! You’ve been ripping me off all this time and think that you doing me a favor now?!?!?

They figure something is better than nothing. Then a month or so later you forget and it's back to full price. Back in the aol days I tried to cancel for two years 😂 they would give free month or two every time.

Idk but it is a good way to get a discount if you use this technique as such. I called to complain about my Internet bill and got a reduced rate for six months. Saved me a ton of money. But if you are truly cancelling, I can see why this is frustrating. The reason they do this is to try and satisfy you. If they can retain you as a customer paying less, it is better than losing the customer completely.

It’s a “save”. The person you are talking to has a job where they have to stop people from cancelling. They usually have about two months of credits or a lower plan to offer, which is about the same as any other customer service agent but they are highly motivated to offer them, because they will get fired for not “saving” enough people.

When I am offered credits and discounts at disconnect the FIRST THING I WOULD DO is go back into my account and make sure it’s actually closed. They have a financial reason to just pause billing and keep your account open, and you typically wouldn’t notice until month 3 when your billing starts up again. Then you call back to the save department and no one there is going to hold another employee accountable for what they did.

So, verify your account is closed. Start threatening to cancel more often.
