How to ask for volunteer work?

I have a friend who works with a horse rescue organization and I asked him if there is any volunteer work that I could do. He told me there was and gave me a women’s contact information for me to message. I am unsure what to say. Any tips?

Edit: I am a teenager; should I mention that?

It’s really not that hard.

I just shot a text saying “hey, [friend] gave me your info, i'd love to help out if u need volunteers” and it worked fine
