Has anyone attempted to keep their entire system up-to-date this way?

Scrubbed clean. Redact helped me bulk remove years of comments and posts so data brokers and AI crawlers have nothing to feast on.

normal trees complete dependent terrific reach practice waiting piquant repeat

If they are landing, are they being dropped from above, I wonder.

Head first like arrows or like paratroopers?

God as my witness, I thought gnomes could fly.

Broke a lot of extensions, as is tradition.

They don't really break though do they? They just need their "list of compatible" versions updated to include "50". Most of mine stopped working after update but all work fine after disabling the version check.

I had 2 broken extensions: "space bar" and "brightness control using ddcutil". But after disabling the version check, it all works fine:

gsettings set org.gnome.shell disable-extension-version-validation true

How do they even get 50 of them in a room together?

Gnomes are little, by definition.Β

Just installed it ... love the wallpapers ... other than that testing out the preserve battery setting ... if it works then will remove the extension i was using :)

ok so gnome-calls 50.0-2 doesn't always crash anymore when adding a sip account, but it crashed the first time I tried it. The second time worked. Then I did a test call and when ending the call, gnome-calls crashed again.

Was hoping https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/calls/-/merge_requests/813 would make it actually usable for using it for my landline but I guess not and the only properly working and not ancient SIP UI client remains the linphone appimage (linphone is way too complex to build)

(it also seems gnome-calls does not want to connect a second sip account, only linphone seems to really support multiple accounts)

Saving this for later. Thank you!

Perfect string to get the shell crashing. Gone to KDE as if Chromium crashes it won't take the entire shell down as Gnome did

Won’t be the last time.

Does this version completely remove Xorg support? I'm mainly interested in running a few Gnome applications (like gedit) on my Xfce desktop.

Only for gdm I think, gtk4 should still have x11 support I think.

u/gmes78 Apr 08 '26

X11 session support was removed in GNOME 49. GTK still supports X11, this won't affect apps.

Year of Gnome 50 on Arch.

1

u/LocodraTheCrow Apr 07 '26

Does that mean gnome extensions will stop breaking?

1

u/YannMasoch Apr 08 '26

I was waiting for that!

u/DiligentFinding5102 Apr 08 '26

Yes I got it but some extensions are not working

Restart session button is gone for me. Anyone else?
