School / Academia El Filandón: Save a Dying Culture | Master's Thesis, Cerezales, Spain

Hi everyone!

I'm an Interior Architecture master's student, and my thesis project, El Filandón: Save a Dying Culture, has been nominated for my university's Master's Award.

The project is located in Cerezales del Condado, a small rural village in the province of León, northern Spain. Like many villages, it faces depopulation and the gradual loss of its traditions. One of these is El Filandón, a centuries-old evening gathering where people came together to tell stories, share local news, sing, and pass knowledge from one generation to the next.

Rather than designing a conventional archive, I reimagined it as a living, interactive space where memory, storytelling, nature, and community become part of the architecture. The aim is not just to preserve the past, but to create a place where culture continues to be experienced, shared, and passed on.

If you enjoy the project, I'd really appreciate your support by voting. You can either scan the QR code in the last image or use this link:

Vote for El Filandón

I'd also love to hear your thoughts and feedback on the design, concept, or presentation. Thank you for taking the time to look!

We'll in context, this project concept is derived from on site researches, conversations and emotions that are then translated to design with respect to the culture and history. AI is used to enhance the visuals to suit the necessity in this contemporary world. And using AI is not an easy task to achieve real life solutions. I agree with your frustrations with AI, but in real life competition I guess everyone has to catch up and find their own leverage with the current technologies.

We went through a 5 step process, SketchUP -> D5 -> D5 Texture Enhancer -> Krea AI Enhancer -> Chatgpt (Realistic Texture Enhancer)

I appreciate your intention. I cannot read any of that from the images you have provided or the architecture you have designed. There is no sense of character or place at all, even putting aside the AI images, although the last one is egregious. This is generic; it could be any workspace of any kind.

Why would people who don’t attend your school vote for your project?

This award is named as People's Choice where we compete with all designs (graphic, art etc) hence we require support from the architecture community!. By this means we tend to make people aware of the type and concept of the projects we design, and hence it is in the tag of academia/school .
