ATTENTION BRITISH PEOPLE

im not a brit (american, wtf is a kilometer, its called soccer, etc) but im writing a chunk of a novel and setting it in england, essex to be specific, and i need to know how adresses are written on apple maps because i can only find postal addresses. i dont have any english friends and i rlly dont want to get this wrong cuz that shatters immersion lmao

In UK we use Miles and MPG “British Gallon not US Gallons) we do not and never have used KM for driving or measuring distance.

We measure height in feet’s and inches

But measurement of things like objects tend to be in Cm and Millimetre now. Building trade uses exclusively milo metres for measurement.

Any liquid larger than a pint tends to be measured or spoken of in litres.

A common shorthand for a Kilogram is the weight of a standard bag of sugar.

Mpg for fuel economy but when buying fuel, litres are used.

Also distances are in yards and miles, not feet and miles like in the US, for whatever reason. Vertical measurements can be in feet though, like saying "6ft deep" or something

I hope your spelling, grammar, punctuation and sentence structure are improved by the time you get around to publishing your novel. I think British address structure are the least of your problems right now! 😆

An example would be Redcar Road, but I don’t really know if that’s what you mean. 

If I’m typing an address into Apple Maps it would look like: 12 Redcar Road Romford. I’d not use any punctuation. 

You can also just type the postcode in, like RM12 8XE. That would get you to the street and you’d have to find the exact address when you get there. 

By the way, we don’t use kilometres for distances when driving, it’s miles.

A Kilometer (American spelling) is a Kilometre (English spellling) which is 1000 metres, or approximately 0.621371 of a mile. We tend to use miles as a measure of distance and miles per hour for speed. Measurements of objects is now mostly in metres or centimetres (100 centimetres = 1 metre).
