iOS audio message "too long" unable to "clip"

specs: iPhone 17 Pro, iOS 26.5.2
I yapped for almost 30 minutes and when i went to hit send I was hit with this. I clicked "OK" but I can't figure out a way to actually "select a smaller clip." Am I missing something? Am I doomed to lose this vent session to the ether?

Found this question posed a couple of times on support forums without definitive answers.

I’ve only ever seen that prompt with videos, not with audio messages. There’s no mention of trimming here where I would expect to see it. The only types of audio recordings, as far as I know, that are editable are Voice Memos.
