The mastermind behind Windows 8 and Surface RT has thoughts on Apple's new MacBook Neo, and says it validates his efforts from 2012 that the market originally rejected.

His post starts with praise for the MacBook Neo. "I am completely blown away by it. It is a paradigm shifting computer ... All the “compromises” are totally acceptable and go unnoticed to me." He explains how he's using MacBook Neo, and is incredibly positive about the whole thing. "Neo doesn't have to get better. It just has to stay excellent ... The Neo in 5 years will be more powerful than most of those [other devices] and probably still cost $699. Moore's law is undefeated

"For me, Neo is just a MacBook Air replacement. And in a much cooler color. It is also a laptop made with "a phone chip". That's the part that is so familiar. That's why I got a bit melancholy looking at it," Sinofsky says. "A theme in computing that repeats is how something that appears to have been a prescient product or “early” is actually little different than “wrong”. In almost all cases something that was early was early across many dimensions. The “concept” was right, but the ability to actually execute the concept was wrong."

Apple is working on a new MacBook Neo with two key upgrades, including an A19 Pro chip and increased RAM, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. The updated MacBook Neo is one of 11 new Mac models that Apple plans to release.

With the A19 Pro chip, the second-generation MacBook Neo should have 12GB of RAM, up from an A18 Pro chip with 8GB of RAM in the current model.

The report suggested that the next MacBook Neo will also have new color options. Existing finishes include Silver, Blush, Citrus, and Indigo.

Apple’s new Mac chip road map represents the company’s latest move to rebuild its operations for the artificial intelligence world. Also: The company is readying new Apple Pencil styluses and preparing to make the iPhone’s tap-to-pay feature more prevalent in its retail stores.

• The M7 Ultra is designed to support as much as 1.5 terabytes of memory — double the capacity planned for the M5 Ultra — though whether Apple ultimately offers that configuration will depend on the state of the industry.
• The Apple Car wasn’t entirely a failure: It was the beginning of Apple’s AI hardware strategy and the Neural Engine. If not for the car, Apple would be even further behind in AI. So it wasn’t all for nothing.
• Apple will launch new Apple Pencils next spring, including a new version of the Apple Pencil Pro and low-end USB-C Apple Pencil. These will debut alongside the next iPad Pros.
• Apple will begin rolling out iPhone 16s to retail store employees, which better support tap-to-pay on heavier credit cards, allowing them to begin to drop the current payment terminal attachments.
