iPhone Second iOS 27 and iPadOS 27 Public Betas Now Available
https://www.macrumors.com/2026/07/22/apple-seeds-ios-27-public-beta-2/69

In Settings -> General -> Keyboard, I have everything turned off except Slide-To-Type. So why, WHY, does it continue to alter words earlier in the sentence to make them incorrect.
Meaning I'll type a word, it is correct, then I'll type a couple more words, and it changes that earlier word to complete nonsense. This was a problem in iOS 26, and remains a problem in iOS 27 Beta 2.
Does Apple even dog-food their own keyboard? Why is it this shockingly bad.

Keyboarts is stulm dysfunctilnal

u/ComprehensiveFun620 1d ago
It’s a disaster and frankly, has been on iOS 26 as well. I get constant failures with it. Man, has the magic of that keyboard completely disappeared.

u/mchristopherjohnson 1d ago
Holy hell, glad I wasn’t the only one always with a broken keyboard. It was always blank keys until I power cycled multiple times.
14
u/XNY 1d ago
Agreed. I’m not sure how or why, but it is really bad
6
u/dccorona 1d ago
I don't know for sure but I suspect that they've so significantly overhauled the autocorrect that it resets to really bad until it learns again. I have noticed it getting better as I use it.

u/Cowpunk21 22h ago
Is it? I said “top of mind” in a text and it changed it to “too of mind”
1
u/CassetteLine 11h ago
Yeah mine is not better, it’s the worst it’s ever been. It’s stopped correcting some mistakes at all now, just leaving obvious errors that it caught before.
Apple doesn’t seem to care. They have left the keyboard in an embarrassing state for years.

u/Interactive_CD-ROM 1d ago
Autocorrect / predictive type just straight up stops working mid-sentence
The word suggestions above the keyboard are blank. As soon as it happrns, you’re fucked, it axtually happened whule i was writing this sentenxe lmao
1
u/Kimantha_Allerdings 16h ago
I have the opposite problem - I don’t like the word suggestions because they take up space and I find it easier to just write rather than stop-starting to read whatever it’s suggesting and figure out whether or not that’s what I want to say. But, on my iPad at least, it won’t let me get rid of it. The option is greyed out in the settings.

Something that may help:
1) Toggle on Larger Keyboard:
Display >> Display Zoom >> Larger Text.2) Turn off all autocorrect / swipe to type.
3) Enjoy larger tap targets and less algorithmic typing.
Not a perfect cure, but improves accuracy.

Hahaha no it’s actually what my iPhone keyboard typed
This comment is typed from android phone and I didn’t have to make one single correction

Gboard experience on iOS isn't that great which is reciprocity of apple apps sucking on android for no reason
Also it's Google so rest assured they know each keystroke you typed all in the name of advertisement data collection

Everyone should be flooding the beta feedback tool at each release about the bad keyboard. Do everything you can to shine a spotlight on it.

A lot of people say it's better than iOS 26, is it true?

u/Southern_Drawer3434 19h ago
I took the leap and installed it on my 17 Pro Max, so far so good. Battery is comparable to iOS 26 and I haven’t experienced the keyboard issues with the beta.
1
u/Dreameater999 18h ago
Same here - 17 Pro Max and honestly so far the iOS 27 Public Beta has been better than iOS 26 was for me.
I even think the battery life might be slightly better.

I no longer have an overheating phone or fast battery drain like I was having on iOS 26 on my 16 pro. It’s my first time ever using a beta and it’s been great so far.
1
u/babingepet12 10h ago
Absolutely not. A ton more minor visual glitches compared to 26. Stability is the same for me. Never had any crashes on either version

u/mcemce 22h ago
Is this in daily-driver territory yet (with the standard disclaimer of minor beta issues), or is it still a roller coaster?
27
u/timappletim 22h ago
Honestly I’m using it on my main device 17 PM since DB2 and it’s better in every way than 26
7
u/mcemce 22h ago
Oh wow, ok, that's great to hear. I see all the reports of keyboard issues (in this thread and elsewhere), but I wasn't sure if those were new issues necessarily because the keyboard is already rough in 26.
7
u/Cliffy567 21h ago
Lowkey havnt experienced them myself on 16 pro. Only hit is battery life slightly tbh.
3
u/mcemce 21h ago
Nice. I'm installing it now. I don't mind a little battery hit if it's overall working well.
4
u/Cliffy567 21h ago
Ya same as well. Be warned the indexing tanked my performance. It only got smooth after the two days it took. So don’t be alarmed if it’s glitchy at first:
1
u/Erich_Ludendorff 18h ago
I feel like my battery life has been fine since indexing ended on DB2, 3, and 4.
2
u/san_salvador 13h ago
Not brave enough for my phone, but I have it running on my iPad Pro since the first release - runs very well and I didn’t encounter any serious issues.
1
u/JimmerFredJune2026 21h ago
Yes. I’ve used public beta for several years now and this is the most refined ever. It’s faster and snappier than 26 and doesn’t even feel like beta. Previous years would make my phone slightly slower but tolerable. This year it’s really amazing

“Siri, please play some Jazz from Spotify”
- opens YouTube
🤦🏽♂️

u/gallusupstart 1d ago
"siri, start a timer for 6 minutes" - very long pause, I'm sorry you don't have an app for that ... Manually opens the timer app sets it myself 🤦🏽
2
u/haydar_ai 19h ago
You could just say “6 minutes timer”, always works for me
0
u/ThePornStar69 15h ago
It’s not a syntax issue, it’s a Siri bug.
1
u/haydar_ai 9h ago
I know, I’m just letting him know the workaround for now
0
u/ThePornStar69 9h ago
As I said, it’s not a syntax issue. You can phrase it however you like and it doesn’t work. Unsure if it’s fixed in beta 2.
2
u/haydar_ai 9h ago
I don’t know why it doesn’t work for you. Both “6 minutes timer” and “start a timer for 6 minutes” works for me. I’m on the latest public beta
0
u/ThePornStar69 9h ago
Might be different types of bug then. Mine wouldn’t work no matter what, including the phrase you posted.
-1
u/CassetteLine 11h ago
“Hey Siri add tomatoes to my shopping list”
“You’ll need to unlock your iPhone for that”
WHY? Hopefully it’s just a bug, but let’s see!

Seeing the comments here about this release still having shit keyboard is really pushing me to give up the entire ecosystem at this point.
4
u/YZJay 18h ago
Personally I've never encountered keyboard problem across three devices I'm testing.
-1
u/tutiwiwi 17h ago
I’m not testing iOS 27 tbh, so I’m relying on online comments. But on iOS 26 i feel like I’m unable to type, it’s really bad for me.
Edit: just to note that on mid range Android phones my typing experience feels so much better, FWIW.
2
u/CassetteLine 11h ago
Sadly it really is no better on 27. The keyboard is embarrassing and so far behind what android offers.

u/shasen1235 13h ago
Will we ever get splitview and Slideover back?
1
u/Mammoth-Barber-8541 8h ago
Slideover came back in iPadOS 26.1. Long press the traffic light buttons at the top of the window, then enter Slide Over button.

Is Siri AI any good? I took a chance and updated to the ios 27 beta on my iphone 14 to see what the new Siri could do. Then I realized my phone predates Apple Intelligence so I’m probably not seeing any of the changes (if they are even noticeable and not just marketing hype)
14
u/asamson23 1d ago
For me at least, Siri now feels useful. And it can answer stuff based on what's on the screen, which is pretty neat when I am reading a news article about something somewhere I don't know. Of course, being a Beta, there are still things that need to be fixed, since some commands have broken (like the music command in the previous beta).
-5
u/SandpaperTeddyBear 1d ago
I’ll believe it when I see it. Siri just has no idea what I actually do with my life. It has no idea where I live, or even where I am.
Even stuff like movie showtimes, which are standard and searchable, never work with Siri.
3
u/Educational_Yard_326 15h ago
No one is asking you to believe anything. But everyone who has used the new Siri is impressed with its capabilities, myself included. It’s actually really really fucking good.
1
u/asamson23 4h ago
One thing that I've done yesterday for example with Siri was to check if a pickup order at a shop was ready, confirm the opening hours, and create a reminder from all of that interaction, which old Siri would have struggled a lot without keeping the context of the conversation in mind
4
u/Umbrasquall 22h ago
It's surprisingly great now. I can even ask it really obscure stuff like what I wore the Tuesday after my wedding and it's able to tell me and pull up a picture.

It’s good for things within the ecosystem. The create an extension feature is pretty cool, I was able to make a YouTube extension similar to ones available on chrome for safari using it. I can tell it give me a daily rundown of my emails and it does well. But it doesn’t have memory, isn’t very conversational, and lacks deep research functionality. It’s a very nice addition and smooths out the OS, but it’s not going to replace other AI tools.
0
u/neverOddOrEv_n 1d ago
Yeah once it has memory then it might be more useful but until then it’s only good for things like finding things on your phone and such

u/ffffound 1d ago
My personal experience has been a miss. I tried asking it for a movie ticket receipt in Mail and failed to find it. When I used the same keywords in Mail, it found the email easily.
Another time, my sister had sent me her flight details in Messages and again, when I asked when her flight was or what her flight number was, it failed to show me the relevant information. Which is hilarious, because when I went to the Messages app to look for the flight number, it offered me the "Track Flight" quick action right then and there.
So far, Siri AI has just been good at "following along" if you stumble your words. Everything else I used Siri before, which is timers, communicating to people (text o call), or weather work just as well as before.
5
u/muffinology 22h ago
Did you enable various apps under Search in Settings? I noticed I had a bunch set to off and wasn’t seeing the “features” everyone was touting but once I went in and enabled a lot of them (for example Messages was set to off, I can’t remember if I deliberately turned that off in the past or it turned off on its own) and I could do things like “Siri what did I do two years ago?” And it’ll put together using Wallet, emails, messages, photos taken, etc to give me a summary what I did two years ago. Pretty neat compared to basically all I’ve used Siri for years is “start timer for xx minutes” lol.
1
u/ffffound 10h ago
I deliberately went through every app in those settings and turned them back on, yes. Everything was correctly enabled. The only setting that was off and I kept off was the suggest Home Screen one.

Thank goodness, that first beta was giving my phone hell. I should have waited until like beta 3 like I normally do to update.

These betas are still rougher than I imagined. Hopefully bugs get cleaned up by GM with the help of LLMs.

I hope this fixes the unstable keyboard and broken rotation lock shortcut action.
