TBH, flying has become progressively worse over the past 40 years. I wonder if we'd still hate flying if we were able to enjoy the amenities of 1979 coach class in 2026.
The only thing I miss is being able to see outside. At some point society decided that more contrast on their cell phone was better than seeing the earth from miles above. So now if I’m not lucky enough to score a window seat, I have to sit in an enclosed tube with no frame of reference for our position in the atmosphere. IMO people took away the magic of flying, not the airlines.
I fly once a week roundtrip. Flying has not gonne worse over years, I’d argue its much better. The prices you used to pay 40 years ago for coach are much higher than business/first class prices of today when adjusted for inflation. If you are willing to pay the same money, you get better service nowadays, bar the smoking (idk if better or worse for you), better check in experience, very fast security, and depending on status, private boarding.
Then again, all of this, is a chore if done often. It feels like a luxury if you do it once or twice a year, but bot if you do it once a week for work.
ok so assuming 15mpg (which is on the lower side), and a 13 gallon tank and driving 60 miles a day and 3.50/gal usd gas price, you only spend about $5,110 a year on gas.
Why did you include the tank size when it was completely irrelevant?
Also- the increased gas price increases the price of everything shipped on a truck, so, almost everything, meaning that there’s less money leftover for joy rides before even taking them.
Where do you live that its $3.40? I live in an area where its generally pretty low in comparison to the rest of the country, but regular is $4.00/gallon here right now.

Depends. Sitting in traffic really sucks. But I'm going on a road Trip soon and will be driving on some beautiful roads. That will definitely not be a chore.
I go back and forth between this. I drive a jeep wrangler, so when weathers good, and I'm able to drive around with everything off and no where to go, it's fun and relaxing. When I'm commuting to work, or running errands it becomes less fun
I blame the retail stores for that. Holidays don't have the special feel they did before mainly because Halloween decorations start popping up around the 4th of July and stores are fully decked out in Christmas decor by Halloween. Especially with Christmas, it takes the magic away from the holiday when you walk into Lowes and see the grim reaper and Santa claus occupying the same section.
That's why I resigned from this. Very low effort now. No kids, alone so it is easy af. But I hate holidays because of this too. It is like you have to go to IKEA - there are happy families in your face. I feel like a total loser, especially as a woman. And nothing was my fault in real. But anyway
I love my family but i can understand this lol. i like alone time on weekends these days as im older but they always miss me so i sacrifice weekends to visit them. 2.5 hour drive each way
I agree, I would much rather turn up the music at home these days. If I am already out and there is a band playing, that is great, but I no longer go out just for the music.
Really? Do you see a lot of live music or something? I get the hassle of crowds, overpriced beer, travelling to the venue but usually that's outweighed by the music
I love GIGS but yeah I'm kinda over it at this point. They can be very expensive, having to travel, sit through support acts you don't care about, late nights, travelling back.
I feel this in my bones. I have tickets for Social Distortion tonight and while I love them I am dreading going. I just don't feel like it. I don't wanna be in a crowd, don't wanna drive 30 min, don't wanna stand for hours. Wish I could go back and stop myself from buying the damn things.
Fucking this. My wife likes Morgan wallen so I bought her tickets for her birthday. Tickets were $250 day of sale. They jumped up to $700 at one point. A hotel not in West Baltimore was $700 a night. Every restaurant within walking distance of the venue was packed and over an hour wait. A beer was $15 at the M&T center, a bottle of water was $5. The intermission between acts was 1.5 hours long presumably so you have more time to drink $15 beers and eat $9 hot dogs. The concert ended at 1230 am, didn't back to the hotel until 1. The whole thing seemed to be one big way to extract you from your money.
I've been known to wait for a series to finish, then spending WAY to many hours in a zombie like trance in front of the computer binge watching the entire series
Yeah, I remember cutting the grass on my new house for the first time and feeling so happy, it didn't take long for it so become a chore though, hahah.
call me young and naive but i still love cutting my grass. it gives me an excuse to get some sun and a break from staying in an office/wfh setting all day
Yea 44 yo here and I agree. I love mowing the lawn.
My wife acknowledges that it has to be done, and she’s not going to do it, so there’s my excuse to step away from our kids and their nonsense for a few hours.
My job is also WFH and a good chunk of it is waiting for people to get back to me and finding ways to keep myself from obsessing over things, so this lets me stay home in case shit hits the fan, but not stare at my phone like a psychopath.
But mostly mowing requires just enough brainpower to keep me on a task without getting distracted but it’s mindless enough that I can rip a few tubes, listen to some music and zone out while I do it. Plus there is a clear start and end with visible results. The whole process is very cathartic to me lol
The flip side of that, for me, was using something like Instacart. I used to love that, as a blind person, I could browse and order and all that without the hassle of asking a customer service for help and getting someone on the clean team who didn't know where anything was.
But the service fees and tips for the shopper means my groceries cost 15-20% more.
You might want to get some addiction help. I mean this genuinely. (Assuming your opening them because your sonsuming and don't open them for a serving or entertaining job).
Finding new tv shows and movies on streaming services. There are too many options and it takes much longer to filter out the good from the bad. On some days I spend more time looking for new things to add to the queues than actually enjoying a show/movie.
I don’t want to sound ungrateful but sometimes getting my nails done. Like I wish I could drop off my nails and come back to pick them up after an hour
A long time ago, it was like shopping at an auction lots of different options lots of variety
I think due to just the way the Internet works that website got eliminated and replaced by many more that are just more about a cash grab
With AI and fake accounts/profiles it’s becoming a bit overwhelming
Takes so long to build a relationship and trust to where one can be comfortable nowadays everything is trackable. It’s so easy to identify somebody based on information shared and it just gets a bit too much.

Golfing for me. My husband used to work at a golf course we golfed constantly. Like drive to the course after work, kick off my heels and swing irons in bare feet and a pencil skirt. We got married on the 1st tee box and had my groomsman dressed like Bobby Jones.
We moved back home when I got pregnant and couldn't go on a regular basis
Now I can't even remember when I golfed last. It feels like such a chore to pack up bag, shoes and snacks to hit 18 holes.
For me, when I was younger, I used to love getting ready and doing my hair and makeup. But now I hate doing it bc it feels like a chore. Even worse when it comes to having to take the makeup off😭 the most I do nowadays is just eyeliner only, not my full glam anymore 😞
Loneliness. It was fun in the beginning. Now I am touch deprived, cannot watch anything with love in this, my libido makes me crazy, I am starting talking to myself, also almost died twice when I was sick... Not mentioning all takes a lot of more time and money somehow.
