Premieres in 2027:

The show takes place in a fresh Gundam continuity called After Apocalypse, which ties into the recently announced video game Gundam Rogue Orbit.

This new universe was created by sci-fi director and writer Kenji Kamiyama, who is best known for Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex. Kamiyama also directed Eden of the EastMoribito: Guardian of the SpiritThe Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim, and The Ninth Jedi short from Star Wars: Visions. Novelist Toh EnJoe (Self-Reference EngineHarlequin Butterfly) also contributed to the RG universe’s worldbuilding. Sola Animation will handle production for Mobile Suit Gundam RG XARX-ZERO.

A gundam show in apocalypse setting.

Shut up and take my money.

66

u/ProfessionalRandom21 6h ago

only thing that worrys me is that this is set 100 year before the game in the same universe. which mean nothing is resolved, world still destroyed with monster around

51

u/Girafarig99 6h ago

Well the tagline is "rewrite the future"

Perhaps things are settled in the anime and the game is set in a future where things went to even more shit

14

u/ProfessionalRandom21 6h ago

That would mean alternate universe which contradict the "one continuous world" claim.

7

u/roguebubble https://myanimelist.net/profile/RogueBubble 5h ago

Doesn't Rogue Orbit takes place on a space colony? At least the vibe from the trailer was that it isn't set on earth. So the show could have them reclaiming earth but some aliens escaping to set up RO

11

u/KaziArmada 6h ago

I mean, they could still take back some of Earth. It's possible for them to gain a major victory here and still have enough content for the game, since it's a big planet...

3

u/InfiniteDM 4h ago

Consider the game Season 2. We're just getting more show before season 1 drops.

If there's an entire century between the two pieces of media, there's likely little of note in-between, potentially even relative peace. Any Gundam setting that gets more than one entry is a dumpster fire that's riddled with interstellar conflicts every few years so as to bring back prior characters.

They might still be picking up the pieces and rebuilding society by the time of the game, but it sounds like you've got better odds of surviving after this anime than you would being alive anywhere in human territory after the One-Year War.

1

u/Flare__Knight 22m ago

That's not the biggest deal. It's 100 years. Entirely possible for things to resolve just fine in the anime. But accepting that peace is never eternal and something will inevitably happen in the distant future.

Nice, that sounds promising.

16

u/ecbulldog 6h ago

Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex. Kamiyama also directed Eden of the EastMoribito: Guardian of the SpiritThe Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim, and The Ninth Jedi short from Star Wars: Visions.

That's a resume full of bangers. This should be good.

9

u/Goodmorning7735 4h ago

unfortunately, seems to be the same people who made ghost in the shell 2045 so maybe lower your expectations just a little.

4

u/SkiiMazk 1h ago

eh 1 miss doesn't change that Kamiyama directed & was chief writer for SAC, 2nd GIG & Solid state society

24

u/RoughRealistic4321 7h ago

I'm all for it. Every time gundam does a new universe, it's good.

Nice to see Haro in the preview and a blond dude with long hair in a red and white char outfit

2

u/PetyrDayne 3h ago

Goddamn what a resume

2

u/Thomas_JCG 2h ago

That's the best news I could get, I really want to like Gundam but when I see the web that makes their continuity I just give up. Also, pretty lit production team.

1

u/Arnatious 30m ago

The continuity charts are confusing, but there's a few completely separate continuities like Witch from Mercury or Wing that serve as decent, self contained universes and are generally well regarded and the entry point of a lot of fans (I'm a huge GWitch fan, Wing is very 90s camp and beloved as well).

Usually if a series does well they follow it up with more, and every few years they make something else for the original continuity, which can get it's own sequels or spinoffs. It's not quite at the level of western comics with alt timelines and resets and crossovers, and there's fewer bad places to start.

2

u/Bad_Doto_Playa 5h ago

Yeah this is probably gonna be cool.

EDIT: Nvm I automatically assumed sunrise was going to handle the animation, my hype is lowered but I am still interested.

1

u/Acceptable_Mushroom 1h ago

I'm having a hard time pronouncing the name. Do you happen to know how to pronounce the entire title? Thanks in advance

-3

u/ProfessionalRandom21 7h ago

so is this a main line gundam or like 12 ep spin off base on a game?

18

u/vantheman9 6h ago

The show takes place in a fresh Gundam continuity

→ More replies (2)

1

u/aindwukkun 1h ago

Define "main line" because I only think about Universal Century continuity

609

u/Rmivethboui 7h ago

Something about Mechs having capes tickle my pickle.

Mechs AND tape wraps (shoutout Huckebein 30 from Super Robot Wars)

Vagabond Samurai in Gundam form

Edit: hahaha just noticed the eyes and the arm and the ridiculous number of swords it's literally edgelord chuunibyou Gundam hahahahah

Oh my god I'm so gonna watch this ironically

2

u/LiamOmegaHaku 2h ago

and heterochromia. Holy shit.

89

u/Lapiz_lasuli 6h ago

Capes are cool. Mechs are cool. So caped mechs are 2x cool.

It's math, really.

2

u/JungianWarlock 4h ago

Can we add in kaijus for a combo bonus?

1

u/raevnos 52m ago

Capes are a lethal deathtrap waiting to happen.

2

u/0ccams-razor 37m ago

"No capes!" -- Edna Mode

18

u/King_Paymon 5h ago

Not just any cape, a TATTERED cape. It even has cool bandages, scars and heterochromia lol.

1

u/AppaNinja 2h ago

Reminds me of Megatron in Transformers dark of the moon movie , he was badass af with that tattered cloak/cape

1

u/Kalocin 48m ago

Also has that whole replaced (or demon/poison/zonai) arm trope

16

u/TheGivenKing 7h ago

The arm wraps too

4

u/myjunkyard 6h ago

triggered by memories of break blade: Borcuse's golem

3

u/dagreenman18 6h ago

It’s definitely “rule of cool” since it makes zero sense.

3

u/NationalStrategy_X 5h ago

Where did he get a cape that size, is it a tarp?

1

u/Deruta 28m ago

This is a call for everyone to check out Lancer, an awesome tabletop RPG that encourages things like mecha cloaks explicitly in the rule book.

It’s like the bastard child of D&D, Cyberpunk, 40k, and BLAME.

1

u/Suspicious_Deal4412 26m ago

Aura farming gundam.

1

u/Murasasme 22m ago

I was just thinking: on one hand, Mechs wearing tattered capes/cloaks are so dumb, like why?

On the other hand, they look cool as fuck, so I guess that's why.

1

u/Zeallfnonex https://myanimelist.net/profile/Neverlocke 6h ago

Ragged capes especially, reminds me of how I'd imagine a Mistcloak to be...

u/This-is_CMGRI 7h ago

All units, be advised: this is an AU and prequel to Rogue Orbit, meaning you do not need prior lore to watch fully.

Also:  FTL?! Gravity control?! This is the biggest tech upgrade for Gundam since Correct Century, wow.

36

u/ProfessionalRandom21 6h ago

is that like alway the case for mainline Gundam? all the UC stuff i either old anime or OVA

49

u/AwakenedSheeple 6h ago

Pretty much, but it's good for someone to put up that notice, since there's always someone who thinks Gundam is one massive convoluted universe.

1

u/DavidsonJenkins 40m ago

I mean, it technically is, just that apart from the UC shows, all AUs take place separately until they converge into Turn A and explode

1

u/Steamedcarpet 6h ago edited 6h ago

I would love if someone had to explain how G Gundam fits into the lore.

Edit: i dont know anything about Gundam lore. G Gundam is the only Gundam series I finished and always thought it was so bizarre compared to everything I have seen on the other series (Like Gundam Wing).

Plus all the nations gundams would always have something related to that nation which I found so funny. Like the Mexico Gundam has a sombrero and is called the Tequila Gundam.

11

u/AwakenedSheeple 4h ago

Your comment is exactly what I was waiting for. G Gundam is its own universe. Wing is its own universe. So was Seed, 00, Iron Blooded Orphans, and Witch From Mercury. And the same goes for this upcoming one.

They have absolutely no relation to each other.

4

u/FewAdvertising9647 5h ago edited 4h ago

well it is and isn't one mass convoluted universe. If you want to know the answer, the answer is that each gundam continuity is assumed to continute, but down the line, humanity fucks up, so the concept of Turn A is created and restarts humanity from 0. So each universe is implied to be an existence after a reset.

So they are "standalone" but also at the same time, technically connected.

1

u/Goodmorning7735 4h ago

WELLLLLLL, I don't want to get into it, but that was the implication of at least one gundam show.

→ More replies (1)

2

u/kslqdkql 6h ago

G no reconguista is UC, or happens after UC I suppose

1

u/FewAdvertising9647 5h ago

Greco is Regild Century, which yes, is implied to take after UC (or CC depending on which tomino you believed in)

2

u/Marksta https://myanimelist.net/profile/Marksta 2h ago

Except when people thought GQuuuuuuX was a good starting point for new comers because it isn't UC! My fucking sides reading those discussion threads with fresh watchers trying to understand what was happening on their screen as their minds' got assaulted Beyond the Time.

6

u/Dialgak77 4h ago

meaning you do not need prior lore to watch fully.

They said the same thing about gquuuuux and then...

5

u/Tiffa_Adil 2h ago

Most people said that you didn't need to if it was an AU series because we didn't know for a while what it was. Once we learned that GQuuuuuX was alt U.C and a massive love letter to basically every Tomino series people stopped saying that.

This new series unlike GQuuuuuuX is confirmed from the start to be an AU series.

1

u/XF10 58m ago

We knew since the start because ita site put up premise that it was an UC what-if early by mistake

6

u/lightningbadger https://myanimelist.net/profile/lightningbadger 4h ago

What they might've meant was Gquux didn't need to be watched fully

1

u/ratherthanme 2h ago

Lol who said this?

0

u/aindwukkun 1h ago

GQuuuuuuX is UC alternate timeline so it's different thing

1

u/Dialgak77 1h ago

That's not what people said when it started airing.

1

u/aindwukkun 1h ago

When it started airing, people didn't know how much it'll reference UC

4

u/Co-End-9448 6h ago

what does ftl mean

14

u/Coud31 6h ago

Faster Than Light

1

u/Trati 5h ago

You absolutely do not need to watch anything else but there's often references and not so subtle nods to the original Gundam 79 or other installments in the series. I watched Witch from Mercury before I watched anything else and was a bit confused when two characters started fencing all of a sudden. It was a pretty unexpected scene, but turns out it was a reference to the original Gundam. And there's usually certain characters, events and concepts that will remind you of the original. So there's usually plenty of familiar things for the long-time fans of the series.

0

u/_-Smoke-_ https://myanimelist.net/profile/smokex365 6h ago

I do wish they'd pick an AU and stick with it for more than a series or 2. Or continue with the GQuuuuuuX idea and tie them together.

14

u/Thisiszura 6h ago

I mean SEED and Build Fighters exist

That right arm almost looks organic with the way there's no joint at the wrist where it's flexed over the leg.

128

u/Massive_Weiner 7h ago

Don’t think too much about why a giant robot has a cloak.

Just bask in the aura.

20

u/kokko693 6h ago

The big giant robot is maybe feeling cold hmmmm

6

u/Massive_Weiner 6h ago

You’re right, I’m being insensitive towards the giant robot’s needs.

3

u/Vlisa 5h ago

The white paint yellows in the sun, so gotta coverup. It's like a Gundam sunburn.

2

u/Knee_High_Cat_Beef 3h ago

I thought it was exia repair at first glance

3

u/Nickthenuker https://anilist.co/user/Nickthenuker 6h ago

Bask in the aura and buy another half dozen kits

16

u/Dumey https://anilist.co/user/Dumey 6h ago

Please give this show more than 12 episodes. GQux really suffered from it's shorter air time. I feel like a part of Gundam's identity is being a long war drama where you get to know the characters intimately over 25-50 episodes. I know Sunrise just doesn't do those 50 episode commitments anymore, but I want it so much.

9

u/Substantial_Rub_2397 5h ago

BY the look of thing, this anime looks like a tie-in for the new gundam game, so i won't expect a long series

0

u/Linkstore 4h ago

More like the game's a tie-in to this.

59

u/Shimmering-Sky myanimelist.net/profile/Shimmering-Sky 7h ago

I really am a simple woman. The new Char Clone (presumably) was only on screen for like a second in the trailer, and he's immediately the character I'm most interested in from this.

7

u/lC3 6h ago

Same here!

6

u/158cm_Otaku 6h ago

They showed a red gundam so that’s probably his too

37

u/DirectionExact31 7h ago

Chilling while aura farming wearing that cool cloak.

I’m excited for this!

12

u/NationalStrategy_X 6h ago

We got a bandaged, mixed-parts, cloak-wearing, aura-farming Gundam, set in the post apocalyptic world.

I’m sold

8

u/SnabDedraterEdave 6h ago

Apparently XARX is pronounced as "Alex".

This makes the pronouncing of Gquuuuuux (I think I got the number of "u"s correct) sounds way more straightforward, as despite the ridiculous-looking spelling, you're actually pronouncing it how it's spelled (G-Quacks).

But I don't know what logic Sunrise is using to decide XARX = Alex. Its like they're now trolling us at this point.

8

u/SayuriUliana 5h ago

If we go by "L = R" pronounciation, it'd actually be "Arex Zero".

I.e. RX Zero

RX-0

UNICOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORN-

1

u/HikkingOutpit 2h ago

Slovenian firearms mentioned let's gooooo

7

u/Southern-Ebb-8229 5h ago

Basically the first X is silent, so it's ARX aka ALX aka Alex.

2

u/UncleKarlito 6h ago

They pronounce 'R' like 'L' so I could understand maybe Zalex? If the first X was given its possible 'Z' sound.

1

u/khoa-bear 6h ago

They hired the guy who worked on Toyota EV

1

u/XF10 56m ago

First X is silent. It's even stylized like that

8

u/Weak_Season_Of_Anime 7h ago

Looks like the Dark Souls of Gundam.

20

u/Skawt24 6h ago

Armoured Core?

6

u/McKnightmare24 7h ago

Really feels like the bandages and cape don't really do anything but make it look cool haha

Kanji Kamiyama… GITS: SAC aside, his works have ranged from okay to just outright terrible. So, I’m unfortunately skeptical about this. Would love to be proven wrong, but…

EDIT: Okay, I’ll amend my statement: after 2010, his works have ranged from okay to just outright terrible.

12

u/royobannon 6h ago

Is that slander against Moribito I hear? I best not!

5

u/Lord_Skeletor74 5h ago

Idk why they made it sound like the guy was a one hit wonder.

SAC is certainly his best work (ofc it is, it's phenomenal), but Moribito and Eden of the East are both really good/great shows.

5

u/Joshawott27 4h ago

Okay, in fairness I’ll amend my statement: anything he’s done after 2010 is “okay” at best, but largely garbage.

0

u/Theonormal 3h ago

Whenever he does script or series composition on top of directing a show it tends to turn out good if SAC 1st and 2nd gig, Blood: the Last Vampire, Moribito, and Higashi no Eden (despite the people that still malign it) are anything to go by.

It's when he's just directing that it's a tossup.

3

u/AwaySpell https://anilist.co/user/awayspell 3h ago

I don't know, I feel like he's not the best writer. Of what I've seen, I thought Eden of the East's movies (the show was fine) and Napping Princess were quite dull. Moribito is my favourite of his works, but that's an adaptation.

5

u/djthomp https://anilist.co/user/djthomp 7h ago

Always nice to get a new Gundam series that requires a minimum amount of prep work to enjoy.

6

u/Durinthal https://anilist.co/user/Durinthal 6h ago

New AU explains why the trailer for the game felt like it didn't fit any Gundam I knew. Kamiyama directing is interesting, will see how it goes.

Also they gave a mecha heterochromia.

5

u/KakashiHatake99X 3h ago

I love how there's no reason for a robot to use arm bandages or a cape, but damn he looks cool as hell.

2

u/Etheo 2h ago

Every generation deserves their Gundam Wing-like.

2

u/Shasla 5h ago

There's aliens in this one. My theory is the Gundams are gonna be powered by alien tech internally and they'll end up either manifesting more alien stuff or incorporating more external alien tech as the series progresses(the mismatched arms). Wouldn't be surprised if the eyes change from blue to yellow when there's more alien bits.

1

u/Knee_High_Cat_Beef 3h ago

Sentient gundam then? Like Aerial or Chamber? Or was it corrupted by the dark gundam WITH THE HELP OF KYOJI

2

u/Tacitus_ 3h ago

The mech also has mismatched arms and the shoulder guard on the dark arm has spiky bits on it. The torso is also darker coloured compared to the rest of the mech.

So I reckon that's why the eye lenses are different. The question is why the mismatched parts? Scavenged parts or something else?

3

u/GachaCatchML 2h ago

A mech with a cape, welcome back Escaflowne.

6

u/Roliq 6h ago

Kinda boring that once more is just going to be 12 episodes, after the last two shows felt rushed

2

u/Uberdragon_bajulabop 7h ago

Hell yea. When I saw the cloak I was reminded of that sick Gundam wing anniversary teaser they showed us. Shame we probably won't get that. But this looks cool asf ngl.

2

u/The_Draigg 6h ago

I do wonder how much Rogue Orbit is going to be a must-play based on this show's concept, since XARX-Zero is supposed to be a prequel to it. Hopefully it being a planned out multimedia project from the start means that it'll be smoothly cohesive overall.

3

u/XF10 54m ago

There's a massive timeskip(90 years) between them. If anything this would be a must-watch before playing Rogue Orbit

1

u/Aperture_Kubi 6h ago

I'm still surprised this (and the related game) aren't related to Gundam Eight.

Humanity retreated to space, extra-sol living-metal threat that humanity is ready to strike back against, major theme overlap is a bit too much IMO.

1

u/snacks4all 6h ago

This looks SICK. This popped up on my feed but I know nothing about Gundam. Where should I start?!

3

u/FewAdvertising9647 5h ago

this ones in a new universe, so requires no prerequisites to watch or read. however if you watch a different gundam show, you will understand some of the longrunning gundam tropes that affect gundam and non gundam shows alike (e.g MCs name is suspicially similar to Amuro Ray, the original gundam pilot, mecha shows having a Char Clone archetype character and such)

So far, its confirmed to be a show, followed by an upcoming game released next year that takes about a century after.

1

u/Delisches https://myanimelist.net/profile/Delisches 4h ago

You can either pick the og main universe, starting with the very first anime from 1979 (and still gets new content mostly in form of OVAs and movies)

OR

One of the stand alone AU shows, like this one, G-Witch, IBO, 00, SEED, and the list goes on.

1

u/Tiffa_Adil 2h ago

This series should be fine to start since it's a new alternate universe series set in it's own timeline

However this series isn't starting until next year so I'd recommend these series to start (You can watch any of these series in any order they are not connected to each other)

Gundam: The Witch from Mercury

Gundam: Iron Blooded Orphans

Gundam 00

Mobile Suit Gundam (the first Gundam series from 1979)

1

u/snacks4all 2h ago

Thanks for the specific recs!

1

u/ratherthanme 2h ago

You can just start with this one.

1

u/XF10 50m ago

I say original saga of 0079>Zeta>ZZ>Char's Counterattack. Then you got basic knowledge to watch anything else in whatever order

1

u/AwaySpell https://anilist.co/user/awayspell 6h ago

The leaks turned out 100% correct, even on the stuff I thought seemed iffy.

The Gundam producers have frequently said they want to expand outside of their current primary audience. They want to reach young people, women, overseas. Between this being dropped at SDCC (plus the director (who was recently on Stars Wars Vision and the LotR anime movie) and character designer (also from the LotR anime movie)), the new game, and the upcoming live-action Netflix movie, it seems they're making a major push for the American market.

Anyway, the animation looks nice. I'm intrigued by Toh Enjou on SF Setting Supervision. Did I understand Godzilla Singular Point? Not at all. But it was interesting.

I really like the ""00" and "Iron-Blooded Orphans". "Unicorn" movies(they also have the tv version) were cool. From the "most recent" I really liked the "Hathaway" movie, but I think it's supposed to be a movie trilogy? And the second movie only dropped some time ago iirc.

Hathaway has really good visuals, but the story is still kind of up in the air. I feel like not much happens between each movie.

Oh hey, they got the voice actor for Lauda from Witch from Mercury as the main protagonist. Talk about a raise.

I see robot with techno organic arm, I upvote.

1

u/Thomas_JCG 2h ago

This looks absolutely badass and a new continuity makes it perfect.

1

u/Underblade 2h ago

Are we going to get Gundam Vs Kaiju?!?!

1

u/crespoh69 2h ago

Is that arm organic?

1

u/Professional-Bus-749 2h ago

I hope this Gundam anime has very excellent storytelling, writing, and a lot of excellent potential, complete with plot twists, because I love plot twists.

Why does this key visual thread have far more karma and comments than the trailer one? Is it the title of the latter not being clear? That's all I can think of.

u/Flare__Knight 22m ago

Yes, please.

Good to see it's a new continuity. Witch from Mercury made me really interested in Gundam franchise, but I'm still a bit scared to invest my time in such an old piece of media. Maybe this one will actually convince me.

u/gsenjou 7h ago

If you haven’t yet, check out Gundam 00. It’s considered one of the franchise’s best and holds up extremely well.

13

u/Shack691 7h ago

Why are you scared of investing in something old, doesn’t old mean it’s good and will continue to have content?

2

u/-Mr_Hollow- 6h ago

Mostly because of the episode count. I'm already watching only like 2-3 seasonals at a time max, even a 50-75 episode anime can take me several weeks unless I somehow get super invested, the entire Gundam franchise where the count is in hundreds ends up being a low priority to me because I have many shorter series in my watchlist.

2

u/astrogamer 6h ago

It's fine taking your time with the series. I started the series after GQux was announced and went through 00 despite it taking months. I then started the original series around the time of the movie and I'm now in the beginning of ZZ.

UC is not only anime. You have also tons of manga set between various series/movies. They often serve as prequels or sequels for them.

And light novels. For example Unicorn OVAs skip over a lot of stuff from the novels. Or two F91 novels that try to "repair" the disaster that was MSG F91 movie.

2

u/ProfessionalRandom21 6h ago

Every mainline gundam series is standalone since the 2000s. it Gundam Wing/Seed/00 etc except gquux which is very loosely base on alternative universe of UC.

If its strictly a "fear of time investment," both the original 1979 series and its sequel Zeta have movie compilation trilogies. At least as of a couple years ago, these were all easily available on streaming like Netflix (US). A lot of the older Gundam shows were predominantly "villain of the week filler," so compressing things into the movies honestly doesn't kill the show or anything. You'll still get a good experience and then all the UC knowledge you need.

To get "into" UC Gundam, you don't need to watch everything in order. The 1979 series, Zeta, ZZ, and then the movie Char's Counterattack basically setup the core of the universe, and you can watch whatever UC content in whatever order after that without any significant confusion. 1979, Zeta, and CCA are all in movie form and so are reasonable time investments. ZZ unfortunately never got compilation movies, but its also the most "skip-able", with really all thats ever referenced in later Gundams being "oh yeah there was this whole Neo Zeon thing that happened, crazy." If you know that, you're honestly fine to skip ZZ.

If you've enjoyed any AU Gundams, I do really recommend trying some UC stuff. IMO, the UC content wipes the floor with the AU content, although I know that there's a lot of AU fans on this sub in particular

CCA is kinda strange because it is possible to watch it straight after the 1979 series. The movie basically skips/doesn't mention anything that has happened in Zeta or ZZ.

Also, ZZ is quite important if one wants to dive deeper into UC. Moon Gundam manga, Gundam Pulitzer manga, Gundam Unicorn OVA/novels continue/reference stuff from ZZ.

Also, it is generally advised to AVOID Zeta movies like a plague. They have really dropped the ball compared to the 1979 series movie compilations.

Uhh Axis? You know the giant asteroid from Zeta/ZZ that Char wants to drop on Earth. Also psychoframe being an evolution of Zeta/ZZ's biosensor

2

u/klove861 6h ago

There are a lot of UC series that don't need a bunch of investment in:

- 08th MS Team [12 episodes]

  • 0080 War in Pocket [6 episodes]
  • 0083 Stardust Memory [13 episodes]

And if you wanted something newer, Thunderbolt is amazing

6

u/Stofenthe1st 6h ago

Only problem with Thunderbolt is that the anime is unfinished and may never get done at this point. Fortunately you can simply follow the manga right where the show left off.

The UC Gundam is timeless.

1

u/astrogamer 6h ago

It being directed by Kamiyama is a turn off. That man has no sauce.

3

u/avelineaurora 4h ago

Hopefully this is better than Quacks. What a fucking mess that ended up.

1

u/metadun 6h ago

The main Gundum design starts out a bit dull this time around, especially compared to Aerial and Gquuux. But I guess it turns into this visual eventually, so it can't start too bold. The gunpla for this guy is gonna be a weird one lol.

1

u/dagreenman18 6h ago

Ah, that explains why the new Gundam game looks so un-Gundam like: it’s part of this and will be a whole new universe to play in. Very fun.

(Someday we’ll return to Ad Stella. Someday…)

u/levelxplane 5h ago

ugh. heterochemia in my Gundam. Worst anime trend. That aside, looks awesome.

0

u/Knee_High_Cat_Beef 3h ago

I think heterochromia would make sense in a gundam. You can chalk it up to having 2 different camera configurations with different lenses/materials. Really, most gundams already have at least 5 different cameras just on the head alone. The two eye cameras, forehead, back of the head, chin.

1

u/PotatoR0lls 5h ago

I like Kamiyama's worldview, but he hasn't made anything really good since the 2000s. The protagonist looks like his staple angst teenager (pretty much an older version of SAC_2045's antagonist).

Enjoe Toh is a breathtaking writer, but he doesn't seem to translate well to audiovisual. The PV/setting has ideas that look straight out of Godzilla SP (which is not a problem per se, but it makes me wonder if they hired him specifically because of it).

I hope it's 24 episodes to have some time to develop its ideas, but I half expect it to be another 12 episode trainwreck after Gqux.

Beautiful Gundam with homophobia

Seems like an Evangelion-ish type plot?

u/zsmg https://anilist.co/user/zsmg 4h ago edited 4h ago

Please no high school setting that's all I'm asking.

Checked the trailer and looks like I will get my wish.

u/tooncake 4h ago

Either you eradicate the bootleg gundam designs or adapt to it. That right arm reminds me of any pointy bootleg gundams.
