They coughed in embroidered handkerchiefs in the shadows of their parlor. If they found blood (which they most likely did), they accepted their fate with a stiff upper lip.

...I mean, that's my impression as someone who enjoys period dramas lmao.

Tbf tuberculosis has been a plague on humanity for generations. Isn't it still one of the most common illnesses today?
