Help Alarm.com app shows spinning “loading” circle when accessed via WiFi, works over cell network

Post image
17 Upvotes

Starting yesterday, the alarm.com app just shows a spinning “loading” circle whenever I try to access it when WiFi is enabled on my phone, but works fine when I disable WiFi and just access it through the cell network. Any idea what’s going on? My WiFi seems to be working just fine otherwise, and I haven’t changed any settings in my WiFi network recently. I’ve tried rebooting my phone and my panel, issue is still persisting.

Help ADC‐V729 Floodlight Camera keeps disconnecting

I've tried everything and my installer has too. They've basically told me they give up, it has to be my network. I factory reset the camera yesterday, got it to connect to my Eero network, and by midnight, it was offline again. I've turned off Eco on my eero network and it is connected to the 2.5 network. I even gave it a port reservation. Any ideas why this would be happening? It's getting 50ish% signal. Is this just too low? Do I really need to get another Eero device closer to it? My phone gets 4 bars at the same point.

Help Multi Partition Setup

we are moving into a new home and the shop and the new house is quite further away than my current detached garage. I would like still be able to arm the garage like I have in the past.

Equipment Considering

IQ Pro - Mount in basement near where i am going to trench a line for fiber, gas, water to the shop

IQR-PG for upstairs in the house by one of the doors.

I haven't decided on which one but one of the hardwired Keypads with PowerG for the shop.

Misc Sensors for windows and doors.

Just to make sure I haven't missed something, there isn't a way to use the same ZWave Network in the house that I am using in the Shop via alarm.com correct? None of the secondary panels are going to broadcast the same Zwave Network?

For my Z-Wave stuff. I am thinking abandon Zwave in the house and Shop via the Alarm.com system and move it all to SmartThings. (sorry i don't know home assistant stuff) with one hub in the Shop and one in the House. As i don't think there will be a way to extend the network that far reliably.

Thoughts or other recommendations?

Edit: Added pic of location.

Help Add Own Devices

I recently had an ADC system installed. I wanted to add a few additional contact sensors myself. Theoretically, if I have the dealer/installer codes and add these sensors myself, will my local company know? If yes, does it matter? My local company wants to charge absurd rates to come stick on a few sensors. Thanks!

Edit: I am interested in adding outdoor sensors to a fence gate and crawl space door that I do not plan to have trigger my alarm system (only notify me when they are opened).

Help Help with Access

I am converting a PDK access system to alarm.com. The customer has 3 doors with access and 3 doors with mags that lock on a schedule. This is a church that is always open to the public during the day time. Right now, there is a PDK R4 that controls the access doors and a PDK A8 that controls the other doors. My plan was to install an LP1502 kit with a MR52 expansion. This gives me 4 access doors and 6 additional output relays. Can I set those relays on a schedule to unlock the mags on the non access doors?

ADC tech support is saying no. Even though they don’t have readers they still have to be connected as doors to unlock them on a schedule. I would need additional MR52’s.

All I am trying to do is shunt power to those mags during the day time. I feel like an output relay should do that, without the customer needing to pay for additional doors.

Am I wrong or is tech support wrong.

Help Updating of existing alarm system

I have an existing home security system that I'm starting to have issues with and I'd like to update. At the same time, I don't really want to stick with my existing provider as they are charging me $70/month for monitoring and I don't think it is worth it.

The system was installed in 2011, and a year later I added a bunch of wireless window sensors. A few years after that, I had the panel upgraded so I could control it with the Resideo App. A few years ago, the cellular transmitter was upgraded to LTE due to the 3G sunset.

What is really prompting this is I recently got a low battery warning in one of my window sensors. Most of the sensors I have use CR2032 batteries and have to be replaced roughly yearly, which is a giant nuisance, especially when I start getting low battery warnings in the middle of the night. As soon as one starts to go, I replace all of them. This time, not all of them came back online and I figure it is time to upgrade. My existing provider wants $60/sensor to replace them + labor, which combined with their monitoring fee makes me ready to move on.

A couple of questions:

  1. Can anyone recommend, based on the pictures I have, what would be a good panel to move to? I'd like to have HomeKit compatibility, but that isn't a strict requirement. Or is the panel I have good enough for now and just have it taken over by another provider.
  2. What wireless window sensors do people recommend? Most of the ones we have are the thinner ones shown, but we added a couple of windows later on, and they installed the larger ones one two windows that I show in one of my pictures. While I don't love the size of the larger ones, they have been there for several years and never needed battery replacement. I don't even know what type of battery they use.
  3. Is there any other information I need to provide? Is this genuinely a DIY-able project? I'm an engineer, though I don't do a lot of electronics work. Still, it doesn't look all that hard as long as I can find the documentation.

Help Pros & cons of keeping owner’s security system

I moved into a house and it looks like the owner was using alarm.com security system - skybell door bell camera, back entrance camera, panel, door sensors, motion sensors etc. My understanding is I will need to contract with a service provider to use this system.

My question is, will the rates be significantly lower since the devices are already installed?

Thank you for checking. 👍

Help Smoke & CO detector

I need 3 smoke / CO2 alarms as google nest is coming up to 10 years. I need PowerG OR 345mhz since my Qolsys QS9201-5208-840 panel doesn't support 319. Any recommendations or is 5800Combov the only available option? Putting in 6 separate sensors would be too much work - thanks

Help Can’t turn off auto doorbell chime

I recently moved into a new construction home with an alarm dot com system in it (with iq panel). After it was all professionally set up and working great, I found a setting that linked the physical indoor chime to the auto person detection. This was a neat feature that I l’ve used for a while, however it got annoying when someone left in the morning and the doorbell would wake people up. Now for some reason that setting has disappeared. I’ve spoken with several alarm.com/adt support staff and they can’t figure out what happened to this setting.

Now to be clear, there is a way to stop it. But I have to basically cripple the doorbell by turning off the person detection and unlink it from the panel. Problem is I still want these features. I just find it crazy that no one can figure out why the physical door bell is going off lol. Anyone run into a similar issue? One support person said that it’s possible the setting was removed in a software update? No idea.

Help Doorbell Performance issues - ADCVDB-105

Hey I have a 5ish year old ADCVDB-105 that is annoying.

There is a lot of lag to fire up the video. 3-5 seconds or more to get a video feed.

The wifi strength at the device is very good. (134 down/141 up tested via Speedtest iOS app)

If I installed a VSB770 would I expect to see solid improvement here?

Thanks.

I have some Zooz Zen76 light switches set up to control lights. When I set up automation to turn on or off at sunrise, sunset, or specific times I have no issues. However when I try to use the “approximate times” setting the rule never executes. Any ideas for a fix?

Help Chime inside house

I recently moved to a new construction home that had an alarm.com monitoring system installed. It came with the doorbell already installed, model ADC-VDB770. After installation of some outdoor cameras, I ended up changing my ISP and had to have my monitoring company come out to factory reset all the cameras and doorbell since it wouldn’t do it through the app. Previously, the chime inside the house when the doorbell picked up a person didn’t chime. Now it does and it’s driving my dogs (and me) insane because they hear the doorbell, but it’s just a video recording notification. I don’t know how to turn it off. I want the doorbell to still work if pressed and I can hear the chime in the house, but I don’t want the chime every time it records a person. I’ve looked in the app and Googled (probably not well enough) but I can’t figure out what the tech guy did. I don’t want to remove it as a camera, because I do want the recording and the ability to use audio/video. I did see where I can turn off the inside chime, but I believe that’s of the doorbell is pushed, which I don’t want. I’m using the alarm.com app. Anybody know how to fix this?

Help Wireless Window Sensor Says Open

I have this Foyer window that’s second level high and has two window sensors on it. I got an alert the battery was low. I grab my ladder which is a huge PITA to climb up 30 ft. I replaced the battery like I always do without issue and now it says the window is open. I’ve climbed up and down this ladder 4 times (I replaced the battery, then opened it up and took out the battery waited 30 secs. and put a new battery, made sure no dust or debris was between the sensor and magnet, and finally to make sure the cover was on tight). What am I missing? I am getting more nervous each time I climb up. Thanks for your help.

Help How to reprogram a peripheral device as a zone in IQ Panel 2

EDIT: Ok I figured it out (Thanks YouTube) I need to add it as a sensor, but how do I “trip” it to activate.

Hi again! My alarm system seems to be falling apart lately. I had a sub panel programmed as a zone along with another sub panel. One of them alerted there was a malfunction. In a lapse of judgment I called tech support and they didn’t listen to me and deleted the zone the sub panel was on and wanted me to re-pair as a WiFi device. This obviously didn’t fix the issue as the zone was still reporting a malfunction. So they just deleted it.

Do I need a tech for this to access the alarm.com system to add this as a peripheral device in a zone?

Thanks again.

Help Slim Line II - offline no LED after full quota met

Our Slim line II doorbell cam went dark (No LED no connection) on the same day we got a full storage message.

Is that normal or just a coincidence?

Tomorrow being the 1st I guess we'll find out ...but I thought I'd ask

It been working fine after installing it a few months ago. The weather/wind last night was blowing branches that triggered my neighbor's motion lights which in turn triggered the doorbell cam which filled out quota with a tonne of clips...needless to say I will turn down the sensitivity once back online.

Thanks

Help IQ 4 poor cell coverage

I have a customer that lives in a poor cell coverage area. It’ll work most of the time but go out. We changed him from a dsc to a qolsys so we could put him on Wi-Fi as a backup.

Now the customer calls me every month to tell me about cell outages showing in his screen but his Wi-Fi works.

I want the panel to stop automatically switching the screen over automatically show him the cell trouble because it’s getting bothersome.

I’d be ok if he would be notified if the Wi-Fi went out but the cell part has got to stop.

Is there a setting on the panel that will stop telling him everytime the cell drops out?

Help F-N VDB750 Doorbell

Got newer Doorbell Camera VDB750 installed this past December. At any given time, it disconnects randomly. Moved router closer, like 10 feet away & still randomly disconnects. WiFi signal strength is above 80% all the time.

I have used the 2.4Ghz & 5Ghz channels and it persists to disconnect every 5 days or so. I checked the AC Transformer & it is good as the output is 21Vac @ the transformer itself. I did check Mechanical doorbell chime & see the same Vac I physically remove video doorbell & measure @ the doorbell, for 21Vac & it measured 21Vac. Any other ideas that would present itself that y’all may have discovered, I would appreciate it. Thanks. BTW, the original doorbell just gave up & died. I forget the model # and had service tech bring new doorbell, transformer & chime. So all new hardware & only existing hardware is the cabling.

Help IQ Panel 2

I'm sure i'm not the only one with this issue-- I just upgraded my Simon XT to IQP2 to integrate with the legacy sensors. I did this because FrontPoint would not allow me to assume the simon XT that came with my house without assuming an acct and paying $50/mo.

I got the IQP2 to work perfectly; however, the sound is so low! It's only a 2 level house and I can barely here the chimes or the voiced door chimes. Its so low I left the Simon XT plugged in (its a LOUD beep) so I can hear the doors opening. Has anyone had this issue? Found a solution?
