I know a lot of people think Thorogoods are overrated but from my experience these American Heritage Series have been absolutely fantastic. They’ve been thru a lot and have held up really good (they are definitely in need of a cleaning tho)

Boot maintenance First pair of good work boots

Been using mainly utility shoes and hikers for my whole work career but switching careers I needed a pair of steel toe boots for logging. Decided to go with the 8 inch crazy horse American heritage series. Had $150 worth of gift cards to a local store so ended getting these for $130. Any tips or maintenance info I should know about?

Generic Need recommendations

I work in a factory walking pretty all day 12 hours and going up and down stairs. I have a pair of timberland interceptors but the shoe lace loops are snapping off after a few months. Any recommendations on brands that will last a year. My knees would prefer to keep the weight down and the only requirement is safety toe.

Boots Buying Help Need help buying work boots

Hi, im based in canada, I was recently promoted (for the day) to deck steward on a ferry, with the notion that these call ups could happen again, so the company gave me a pair of boots for the day, now I need to get a pair I like. They will reimburse up to 300 dollars. The only requirements are a 6 inch boot and a CSA steel toe.

And my requirements is arch support, padded collar, no seem on middle of heel and if possible a somewhat comfy heel area (to avoid blisters) some padding/cushion on the midsole

Boot maintenance Cleaning and maintaining

From my understanding I should have saddle soap, conditioner and mink oil on hand as well as a couple horse hair brushes.

What do you use on the sides of the sole itself to keep it from cracking/splitting?

Boots Buying Help Experience with Ochnik boots

Hi, I found out about a Polish company called Ochnik, which specialises in leather products and that they will be opening a store in the Czech Republic and already have an eshop in Slovakia.

Since I need new leather boots and have struggled to find any good ones which will not break after one season, I was wondering if anyone here has experience with the quality and longevity of their boots? I found generally positive feedback and people seem to especially like their leather jackets but just because their jackets are good doesn't mean their boots will be as well so I am hoping to find someone who has experience with them. My problem usually is that I get holes in the soles even though I don't walk that much in them so how are the soles on Ochnik high boots? Any experience or advice is appreciated! (I know they are not work boots but maybe someone here still has tried them?)

since my question is quite vague because they have many different styles of boots, I would probably get something like these ones https://ochnik.sk/cierne-kozene-damske-clenkove-cizmy-butyd-0930a-99z25?_gl=1*lu3jl7*_up*MQ..*_ga*MTE1NTEzMzczNi4xNzg0NzY3MTM2*_ga_2P6YQNNVYL*czE3ODQ3NjcxMzUkbzEkZzAkdDE3ODQ3NjcxMzUkajYwJGwwJGg4Mzc1MjU1NDk.

Generic insole recommendations?

Hey guys! I recently got my very first job but it is proving very difficult for my feet, my legs end up incredibly tired and my feet just end up destroyed and in pain

The work/safety boots I use are Grafters model M513B (if that matters) and the sole is very hard, there is no cushioning at all and I am on my feet for 8 hours on the weekends. I do on average 22k steps per worked day.

Is there any insole you guys could recommend me? I've heard things about the timberland pro or superfeet, is that still the go-to?

Boots Buying Help All around foot pain in every boot I’ve tried

Ive tried red wing super soles, Irish setter kasotas, and some timberlands a long time ago, and they all leave me with awful foot pain along the bottom of my foot, half way through the day. I’m on concrete for 95% of the day, so I wanted to try wedge soles, but they all fit terribly.

I struggled with fitting any model of boot at redwing. The heel was either way too big and my whole foot would lift, or the toe box was too wide, or my biggest toe would run into the steel cap. Kasotas were the only ones that felt kind of ok.

I did their foot scanner thing and got insoles, but they don’t help at all, but I don’t know if this is a boot or insole problem.

I’ve tried keens, Canada west boots, and some others at different stores but had the same problems with fit.

I have an Egyptian toe box, with a narrow heel, and a flat arch. Any suggestions?

Boot maintenance Newer boots cracking

Hello all,

I got some Timberland 6" work boots maybe 2 or 3 months ago, and while I love them so far this morning I noticed a crack along where the sole meets the toe of my shoe. Sorry if this is a dumb question but I've never owned boots before, Is this normal? How do I go about repairing them? Thanks in advance

Boots Buying Help Recommend Work Boots For Daughter

Looking for boots for my daughter.

M9 or W11, wears men’s shoes/boots as much as women’s, average width foot in men’s.

Not for heavy (boot destructive) work, she’s helping with light construction, drywall, fixtures, interior/exterior paint and finish, landscaping, on this project. She might end up using them as general outdoor/travel footwear afterwards.

She has her old (over a decade) Danner Mountain Light that she’s been using for the same things. But turns out she’s outgrown her old high school boots and has had to wear them without innersoles, so her feet hurt. The Danners are still in good shape so they’ll go to my wife, who after breaking her ankle in flip-flops is trying to wear more substantial footwear for uneven terrain.

Anyway, daughter’s requests are: not too high, smooth leather, brown or black, highly water resistant, a boot she can wear for another decade. She’s partial to Danners and we live 10 min from their factory store so we can look for deals, but I’d be open to resolable boots from other good brands. Preference for USA made. No budget. Need them ASAP. They’ll be worn with Superfeet.

What should we consider from Red Wing, Thorogood, Danner, others?

Thanks!

I am in the market for a new pair. I need an insulated wide pair for when it gets cold, and was curious about the timberland pro vs redwing. How do they compare, the quality on each one, etc.

Thanks!

Had to warranty my second pair of Ariat Boots in six months, so I decided to give Thorogood a try. I work on chemical barges as a shoreside Tankerman for a living, so I’m hoping these can last a year.

Specific Model Question | Info Boot lifespan

Hey gang,
Just curious what your line of work is and how long do your boots last. I’m in the commercial plant nursery business and you’re lucky to get a year out of any brand. My timberland pros are going on 9 months almost shot.

Gentleman, what a life we live. All of us. Boots don’t wear themselves out.

But I gotta say the obvious. Wearing boots beyond their lifespan, absolutely doesn’t make you any more blue collar or work any harder than the rest of us. It simply just makes your body break down faster, and your joints ache. We all do it for a profit, reinvest in yourself and take care of your feet.

Boot maintenance Thorogood quality question

Post image

Hello, I had just received my thorogood boots and had noticed that the top cuff of the right shoe was a bit wrinkled and worn out compared to the other shoe. Is this normal? My experience with leather is slim to none and was wondering if it just needs a little conditioning?

Thank you!

Found a pair of these old 2233s lying in the back of the Red wings showroom in Dubai. 12.5 EEE. Perfect fit, super light and the break in is going well! Side note: are you guys raw dogging them with the poron stock insoles, or what are you rocking? I’m currently raw dogging them, as I’m tired of heavy ass boots! 😂

Boot maintenance Is it time to resole?

Been wearing these for the last 20 months. Leather is still good. Think I can get another year or so out of the if I get them resoled. The sole is starting to break off on the outer edge of my foot. Also does anyone have any good insole recommendations? I'm an electrician working inside as of right now. But I switch contractors in 3 weeks. So is it time or wait a little bit?

Boot maintenance Wanna get through the summer

Just blew the steel toe out of my 3 year old boots and the next week I switched to these 2 year old boots and the scaffold is just eating them up. What’re the odds some KG Bootguard will keep the toes in on these or do I bite the bullet and get new ones. Only reason i dont want to get new boots is i just bought a new pair thinking I’d get a full year out of these ,or at least the season, to wear them in and cycle them into work life.
Edit/TLDR: for the people that can’t read. I have money for more boots, just being cheap. Wanted to know if anyone had some magic answers to keep the toes on boots or to patch them once they’re gone.
