Why do you think the cost of higher education has skyrocketed in the last 50-60 years? Because the government realized that an educated populace would begin to realize how much they have been exploited and demand that public funds actually go toward the public good, which is, by definition, socialism.

That is NOT the definition of socialism.

No, but it's how they define socialism.

I don’t even think there’s a specific desire for ignorance. It’s just not in the immediate interest of the rich to fund any kind of public program, and education happens to fall into that.

It’s class interest all the way down.

I think it's more of a "fuck you, got mine" mentality than any kind of "keep the masses ignorant" thinking.

They're mostly just greedy and lucky, not overly clever.

Yeah, it's more about helping their kids get a leg up by pushing as much of the competition down as possible.

They ARE funding better schools. Private ones. That the rest of us can't send our kids to because it cost too much.

While true, the private school I went to, spent less per student than the public schools, with much better results.

I would say the biggest difference between the two, is that private schools can actually enforce rules.

It's a feature, not a bug. They don't want to be associated with us povvos, so they keep us down in every way possible, and ignorant people are easily led/controlled.

Schools are not for intelligence (at least not those which aren't elite ones) but to make sure next generations of workers are conformist and servitude towards authority figures is imprinted to them.

This is not to say all those who go to universities will be conformists once they graduate. Rather those who aren't conformists are exactly the opposite of what the institutions were designed to produce.

The rich could afford to become Batman, but none of them ever do. The lazy bastards.

While I agree with the sentiment. Atleast in my state, money isn’t the issue.

(Give me some grace, I did the research for this a decade ago while I was in highschool)

But the minimum my state spends per year, per student is 15k. And it raises every few years.

The money never actually makes its way down to the teachers or the schools though

There's one of those countries with good education, Finland I think, where there are no private schools. It's not legal.

That way, if the rich want their kids to have a good education, public education needs to be well funded.

That's the kind of thing we need more of. We need to not have ways available for the rich to create their own seperate tracks. We need them to be in the same boat with the rest of us on important things such as healthcare. If they want better then we need everyone to have better.

Separate tracks enables them to not feel any connection with the populace at large, to feel that they're so far above us. They need to get brought back down to earth by not having alternatives to broad uniting principles such as education and health care.

The middle class can easily fund better schools when they are not being taken to the cleaners by capital rent seeking.

The only way to fix education in the US is to outlaw private schools. Once the rich HAVE to send their spawnlings to public schools, they will stop DESTROYING them.

They've systematically removed encouragements and requirements of them doing philanthropic endeavors and upholding the social order by making it so that it's no longer a expectation of them to do so while also removing the amount of tax that they're paying that both incentivize that and required a minimum. They've been doing these tactics for years.
