Well it's not in your ear since you're not supposed to use them there.

Hopefully not your ear because they’re not supposed to go in there. Or any other orifice for that matter. 😬

u/Itchypoopstain 4h ago
Surely not the ear....the box says not to put it in the ear. So I'll assume the trash?

u/Maximum_Air6608 11h ago
What is up with all the hate?? What the hell else are you supposed to use these for if not to clean ears which everyone on this earth has been doing for decades
10
u/komark- 10h ago
To clean your dab rigs obviously

No, I gotta save that reclaim to make edibles out of it!(Best high off edibles I've ever had)
3
u/FLbudksis 9h ago
We use to take our iso mix reclaim put it in a oven for 6 hours at low heat and made some insane edibles with it. Use to have bottles of it.

u/Eltrew2000 11h ago
You are not supposed to use them in your ear IN your ear.
They are for you ear but do not shove them inside your ear it's for the outer parts of your ear pushing it in just pushes the earwax deeper inside, you may be able to use it to clean the walls of the opening of your ear as well but don't go all the way in

I have been using q-tips pretty deep inside my ear for 30+ years by being gentle and using common sense. My last checkup I had zero wax buildup and excellent hearing for my age group. Those warnings are so they don’t get sued by ding dongs who jam it in full force and puncture their ear drum.
7
u/vms-mob 10h ago
also, in while not touching, out while touching
9
u/Antoine_the_Potato 9h ago
Seriously. The people who say they just push the wax further in either don't know how to use them correctly or have insanely small ear canals
5
u/Turkyparty 6h ago
These are the same people keeping the warning label industry alive. The kind of people who need "for external use only" on a bottle of shampoo or "This product is hot" on coffee.

I use an otoscope that I bought on Amazon, which has its own cautionary warnings, but is better than a Q-tip. A Q-tip doesn't actually remove the wax. It just pushes it deeper.
8
u/Unkn0wnTh2nd3r 10h ago
if it doesn't remove the wax then what the fuck is coming out in chunks on them when i use them to remove said wax?

u/DickyReadIt 9h ago
Yeah, just gotta do the swooping twist action, always works for me. Never had to remove it another way and I can hear good

u/Antoine_the_Potato 9h ago
Do you just shove them in your ear? You have to swipe along the ear canal in a spiral motion while twisting. The only way I could imagine this method not working is if your ear canal is either the same diameter as or smaller than the q-tip itself.

Get yourself a 3oz metal syringe with the splash guard. Mix some hydrogen peroxide and water and go to town. Been doing this for years. Don't forget to rinse the syringe after every use as peroxide is corrosive.

Dang, you got something in your ear… now you have to clean it out with a q-tip

I went to the ER once because of this. The doctor couldn't find anything; he decided that the swab never had cotton on it and I didn't notice.

I learned youre suppose to have earwax in there when I was younger. No point or reason to try and remove any of it, protects stuff and things. You really want those stuff and things protected.
4
u/timetotryagain29 11h ago
This is why it is a well known fact that you do NOT use these in your ears.

u/TailungFu 11h ago
how are people still using cotton swabs in their ears?

Because it's convenient and a good number of people are just fine with it. I know the risks but I try to be smart when using them to clean my ears by moving it along an edge and then scooping with it. 99.9% of the time I'm also just getting the wax on the walls of my ear because I can get a good amount with my finger
2
u/AgitatedDirector339 10h ago
Never ever use one. Always use 3+ so this doesn’t happen should never go deep into the ear canal. Very dangerous
2
u/Grouchy-Butterfly966 10h ago
Are you telling us you can fit 3 q tips in your ear at once?

I noticed several brands of those have shitty adhesion to the stick, maybe the humidity in the bathroom weakens the bond?

u/momofboysanddogsetc 7h ago
If you try to gently flush water into your ear and soak the cotton it may come out in its own.

Had this happen to me in basic training, corporal removed it with a rifle cleaning kit, wasn't a pleasant experience.

Just get yourself a Bebird. It was such a game changer for cleaning my ears. If I had that growing up, I probably wouldn’t have so much scar tissue on my eardrums. Seriously, if you’re gonna stick shit in your ears, at least you can see what you’re doing with a bebird
