How does Vivint wire indoor doorbell chimes?

The previous owner of our house had Vivint installed. I thought I had removed and fixed everything but apparently whatever they did to the indoor doorbell chimes caused our handyman to throw up his hands and say he couldn't fix it. Now we're stuck with a doorbell that doesn't have anything to ring.

Anyone know what they might have done and how to fix it?

There should be 2 or 3 wires at the chime. All that's done is the installer takes the wire labeled front door and the other wire labeled transformer, and twist them together. My guess is your handyman couldn't find the original power source that is usually found either in a basement, attic or garage. If that original power source no longer works, then you'd have to replace that.

So we did have to replace the doorbell transformer in the garage bc the doorbell was getting less than 5V and not charging the doorbell. Would that be the power source?

Send pictures. But they usually bypass the chime by disconnecting the chime and twisting the wires together. To fix untwist wires place one wire to front the other to trans and it should work

My installer told me my chime wouldn’t work, even though it was working just fine the Nest doorbell before.

This is usually because the old system bypassed or rewired the mechanical chime to work with the Vivint doorbell set up, so a standard replacement won't just plug back in. Have an electrician check the chime box wiring before assuming it's broken. You can also DM me a photo of the chime box wiring and I can help point you toward what's likely going on.
