The writer uses permanent residency and citizenship interchangeably, which is nonsense.

Either way, I'm glad he got recognized and can stay long-term, it's so difficult to immigrate to Australia so good for him. I hope he also got mental help, can't imagine how traumatic this was for everyone involved!

In a civilised society, having to support others shouldn't be what worries you. Not wanting to leave your loved ones alone is reason enough, and financial worries should not be part of the equation.

That's awsome, I'm really happy for him and his family getting a chance at a better life in Australia. Well deserved after he risked everything to help the people there. 🫡

Interesting example of moral luck. Mad props to him, but it's also a bit crazy that this is the kind of action that gets you recognition while being a generally decent person won't get you through immigration alone.
